League of Legends General Discussion Thread

Something to I've been considering. There were over 40,000 people watching Dyrus' stream today during the afternoon (GMT), where he was just trolling around with a 2300 ELO smurf account in duo queue (and occasionally getting paired up with another couple of pros who were duo queueing). No competitions, no proper team work, just him and a friend dicking about with Pantheon/Leona or Jarvan/Alistair bot lanes.

That's more people than go to watch most EPL football matches. Just how large is the E-sports arena going to grow?

Thing is though is that after Dyrus (or whoever is the flavor of the quarter streamer), viewership slopes down pretty dramatically. In sports they support quite a few different teams, all with high viewership, not just 1 single guy and smattering of other people.

I find it interesting how streamers go through FOTM just like champions. Forever Hotshot always had the highest viewer count, then Saintvicious took over, then when Doublelift joined CLG, he shot to the top. Then the Oddone became popular. Now Dyrus.

Shrug, I'll take Kylol any day of the week and twice on Saturday!

Just saw this artice on IPL4 viewer numbers.

Quote:SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The IGN Pro League (IPL), competitive video game league presented by IGN Entertainment, today announced that its most recent event - IPL 4, held April 6-8 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - drew an all-time high of 346,000 peak concurrent online viewers, the largest-ever online viewership for an eSports event held outside of Korea.

Partnering with GOM TV to host the finals for Korea's Global StarCraft Team Leagues (GSTL) - the first time a GSTL final has been hosted outside of Korea - IPL 4 reached more than 3 million unique online viewers. More than 6 million hours of video content was viewed online over the course of the 3-day event. The event sold out its physical venue, bringing more than 10,000 spectators to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - the first time eSports favorites StarCraft II and League of Legends have hit the Las Vegas strip.

Pretty sick, thought they were still lagging behind MLG in this respect.
Hopefully this brings good competition to make both MLG and IPL improve.

I'm sure Chinese Events have even more uber numbers. China will probably be the Esports market of the world. Its just a good time and China has alot of money to throw around.

Does anyone know what's up with Sullla's livestream? I've got an hour to kill, and I'm assuming he is doing Tuesday Youtube night, but the stream is offline. Help!!

I gather that Sullla tried to start a few games but people kept leaving in champ select which naturally was very frustrating.

So Sullla afk-ed at the end of the night with his stream still on- and 114 people stayed to watch Sullla's screensaver move around on the stream. You must be doing something right...

Meh, its like the 1000 people who watch Day[9] play text twist or the numbers he gets when he unbuttons his shirt tongue

If anyone is on right now, OGN's LoL tourney is being broadcast if you want to see some Koreaners. It says its supposed to be playing MiG Frost v Nanjin e-mfire but it seems like its only playing ads right now.
