OTOH she's a lot harder to farm with due to her E.

Well she wipes out huge creep waves like it's no business, it's just that early on you might overshoot and miss some creeps because of the explosion effect. On the other hand, the passive on her E also allows her to push the lane and achieve higher level than the enemy. At level 2, if you have Ignite, you just W+E+Ignite and with an aggressive support like Alistar you might have just gotten first blood. And given that Sivir and Tristana are the cheapest AD carries right now I have nothing else to add. Corki has simple mechanics too and can be aggressive in lane, but he is worth like 6300 IP. kayapo Wrote:Indeed, surprising result for me too. I have no ilusions though, combination of begginer`s luck with being paired with people without a clue (more then me). Honestly, I'm not surprised at those numbers. A vast majority of people at lower levels have no idea what to do in game. Just the fact that you took the time to read the beginner tips and watch videos to improve your play puts you way ahead of most people at your level. As for champions, I would recommend learning the following at your level: Ashe for AD. Ashe is the most valuable AD to learn on. While she doesn't have a natural escape, playing Ashe teaches the most valuable AD tools of Farm and Positioning, as they are so necessary to doing well with her. If you can nail those, you've mastered the basics of all AD carries. Otherwise, I would recommend Sivir or Tristana because they have a similar power graph (strong early, weak mid-game, monstrous lategame) and have defensive skills + attack steroids. Annie for AP. Annie, while not as highly prized as some of the more complicated AP champs currently, is still a very good champ to learn AP on. Annie teaches you to last hit well with her Q's special ability of refunding mana, teaches you to zone with your stun, and teaches you the basics of skillshots (Tibbers and Incinerate). Annie also farms very easily and is still capable of great burst damage. Once you have farming down pretty decently, I would also recommend learning Ryze, as all of his skills are auto-hit abilities and he has amazing survivability lategame in trade for an incredibly weak early game. Garen/Udyr for toplane. Garen is easier to learn the lane with due to his lack of resources, but Udyr is more viable in most later level games/ranked, and learning him will give you an immediate choice when you decide to jump into jungling. Both champions have good sustain and are tanky, but Udyr can be tricky at first due to the concept of a lack of ultimate. Soraka/Alistar for support. Soraka is the easiest support to learn to play. You're essentially a healbot, but when learning botlane matchups, that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're feeling adventurous and want to try being aggressive, Alistar is your cow. With a very strong initiation using headbutt/pulv, a heal, and a super tank ult, Alistar has a great skill set to learn aggressive supports. The above is only my opinion. If you find a champion you really like during free week, by all means, play that champion! For me, I picked Kog'Maw because I enjoyed his playstyle and have essentially mastered playing him. I would definitely recommend picking up Trist/Alistar, since they're free, and buying a few of the really cheap IP champs of all roles to see which one you like best, since that will lead to future champ purchases and your initial rune sets you purchase once you hit high enough level. It has a lot more to do with people feeding me then me doing anything "amazing". Funny story you`d be surprised how much I get yelled at because I`m not jumping on them (@ lv 1) and helping a very eager teamate "finish off his gank" just as he dies to the tower for the 10th time or feeds them to no end. One thing that nobody does at lower levels is not auto-attack and just push into the enemy tower all the time in the beggining of the game. This is something I got from one of the videos and makes total sense to me. Farming phase you want to keep farming in a place you feel safe, not push into an area you are at a disadvantage. My teamates at this point even at lv 1 think OMG kill the tower that is the goal of the game. The whole "lanning phase" thing isn`t something popular at lower levels. I actualy had someone suggest I was so bad I should delete the game, scoreboard at that time? I was lv 6, 0 deaths, farming gold didn`t have to retreat even once while he had died 4 times and was lv 3. I couldn`t even bring myself to respond, since there is nothing I could say that would prevent him from just starting to flame me =P Thanks a lot about all the tips about champions. I had to stop to understand better what you guys mean by AP and AD. I think I get it now. Ashe is the type of champion that relies on the power of her auto-attack. While Anie is all about the force of her spells. I got the free champs and from the cheap ones I got Anie, Sivir and Ashe. Slowly getting the hang of things. One question... Do you guys have any suggestions for masteries and runes? Right now I`m doing that I feel is obvious, AP for AP users, AD for AD users etc. Runes are still a mistery. Why some cost 15 IP and some 30 IP if they are of the same tier...right now I just bought a all the AP boost runes at tier 1 i could use. kayapo Wrote:Do you guys have any suggestions for masteries and runes? When leveling up an account I'd say that you should invest in defense tree because it allows you to trade harassment better in lane. For runes, you should completely ignore tier 2 ones, buying Tier 1 for some marginal benefit maybe, and then spending your IP on Tier 3 runes. In general, Armor Seals and Magic Resistance Glyphs are staple runes on anybody and serve ANY champion well. For Marks, AD-based champions will want Attack Damage (easier last hitting, stronger scaling on AD abilities) or Armor Penetration (early game counter to Armor yellows and true damage to squishy targets, helps in level 1-2 fights). For quintessences, you can get all-rounders like Movement Speed, or just run Attack Damage quintessences for ADs and Ability Power quintessences for APs. Ignore critical damage and critical chance runes.
Seyruun is spot on with rune advice. Tier 1 until level 20 and then Tier 3. Most people start saving up IP so that they can buy a full set of T3 runes when they hit 20.
Also, you can see what other people are using for their rune pages if you look at their Summoner profile (right click them on your friend list or use the search button at the bottom right). This is helpful if you see someone play well you can immediately check out what runes/masteries they were running right after a match. kayapo Wrote:Do you guys have any suggestions for masteries and runes? A little outdated, but potentially useful guide on which types of runes: http://runeterra.com/forums/index.php?topic=1137.0 Also, a nice guide talking about how to manage your IP to buy a decent rounded set of heroes plus full sets of useful Tier 3 runes: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/show...p?t=556890
Thanks for the tips. I`m savoring each win and defeat while trying to learn a little bit each time, even though I`m playing a very different game from the one`s I watch in Sulla`s channel. There is no lanning phase, people go straight for the "gank phase".
Slowly getting used to more champs. Been using Ashe quite a bit and trying trish too. I`m going to buy Soraka at some point. Melee still scare me though. I can`t put my head on how I would farm with them. Probably because I haven`t seen a video yet where Sulla is playing melee. A non related question...do you guys play together usualy, and do you use vent or teamspeak?
The guides spellman linked are decent but I personally would not buy CDR glyphs. I bought them a long time ago and now I don't use them on any champion. Either I want more burst from AP/lvl or more tankiness from Magic Resist blues. They cost 820 IP apiece which is ridiculous.
kayapo Wrote:A non related question...do you guys play together usualy, and do you use vent or teamspeak? Yeah, we do play together quite a lot. Usually with a healthy mix of casuals and more competitive players per team, and we communicate using this TeamSpeak 3 server: ts51.light-speed.com:4038 kayapo Wrote:Melee still scare me though. With AP Sion you can just turn on your shield, walk up to minions and blow them up. Other characters, like, say, Riven or Jarvan IV, you do have to realize that melee vs ranged is an advantage for ranged (duh). To counter this, you should: *start Cloth Armor + 5 pots against physical lanes and Boots + 3 pots against magic lanes *build sustain (Wriggles, health regen items like Philosopher Stone, Hextech Revolver for mages) to counter harassment damage *sometimes you have to deny yourself last hits if going for them puts you in danger of losing health *if you are a melee character with a gap closer (for example, Shen's Shadow Dash) then when the ranged character just stands there to harass you, close the gap on him and trade damage with him if you can outdamage him in that moment. Now with Deathcap there's no reason to. As for leaning melee, the main thing to remember is they are usually tanky. Or, you should make them relatively tanky. Learning how to get to a minion, kill it, and then escape with minimal damage is a daunting thing to learn. Alternatively, as Deceptus mentioned, get enough sustain or damage so they can't trade with you. If you have an awesome buddy, have them go ranged and force the enemy away from the minions so you both get free farm. Also, certain combinations of melees work really well if they can tank and deal damage, forcin your fragile opponents out of lane. Mundo+Sion is a classic example. Stun, slow cleaver, and shield w/ Mundo's burning AoE make short work of most ranged heroes. |
