It ought to be banned, and we shouldn't use it. It breaks the game.

I'd say just PM the admin about it, and if he bans it have him post publicly to do so just so we know the other teams don't use it as well. If he allows it, ask us to tell us so privately so as not to give the other teams the idea to use it.
Given what 7 posted, we have to check with the admin first. I agree it should be banned for games hosted at RB, but if the admin is going to allow it for this game we should go ahead and use it.

And there is my problem. Its so dead simple and quick and not traceable and I would bet Gaspar's car that it will be used by at least one other team once it is announced. mh

The trouble with banning this is that it is, as Kyan noted, it can't be checked for or detected (if people don't discuss it publicly or semi-publicly, like we do). Say that the turnplayer does this on T0 and T1, after moving the warrior. Then he or she has gained knowledge on enemy settlements, and can use that to direct the future scouting movements.
After all, going right ahead in one direction is a valid scouting technique for players keen on establishing knowledge on the other players ASAP, as opposed to explore the near area first (as most of us are keen to do).
If its announced everyone will use it and just say they aren't. I mean no can tell if you've done it. Honestly I wish we'd never even learned about it. Now that we have, however, there is no sense in handicapping ourselves when you know other teams will use it.

And the problem is that if the admin: 1.) rules that we should not use it, we will obey, but there will be nothing in place to check whether other teams know about and use it 2.) rules that we should not use it and publicly announces this decision together with the exploit, we will obey but there is nothing to prevent others from using it. 3.) rules that this exploit is ok to use and publicly announces it, we will have helped our rivals who don't know about it So only if he rules that this is ok to use for us and keeps quiet about it does this work in a way that does not hamper us. mh

Can we please stop assuming that everyone except us will cheat (not ask the admin if they can do this)? I'm ready to quit out of embarrassment. It's also hard to detect wealth build + governor abuse. And information about this is posted publicly. That doesn't mean "everyone" is going to do it, nor that we should do it. If the admin decides this is not allowed, then 1) we don't use it, and 2) no one else need hear anything about it. (No, the admin is not supposed to provide a public list of legal vs banned tactics.) Anyone else who already knows this is possible needs to be asking the admin too. mostly_harmless Wrote:So only if he rules that this is ok to use for us and keeps quiet about it does this work in a way that does not hamper us. In my opinion this is the only reasonable choice for the admin given the explanations above. I think that if we point that out, then we should expect a reasonable outcome. Kalin
I understand wanting to beat the teeth out of our opponents but I don't think we have to do it this way. Surely this is a bug and not intended game behavior.
As for whether to point it out to anyone, if we can't find it published anywhere else for now it may be safe to assume no one else knows about it. In that case I'd keep quiet, not use it, and then when this forum is unlocked in 9 months or a year, then we can deal with banning it like it should be done. And obviously anyone with access to this forum would know it shouldn't be used in games at RB. I wouldn't leave it up to Rolo to make the call we want on this, I'd suggest leaving it alone. We're not using the wealth / culture / Oracle / Lib exploits, this feels like it belongs in that category rather than something we want to consider using in game.
