"Dressage". I wanna see Mitt Romney's dancin' horse! :
In actuality: Michael Phelps vs. Ryan Lochte, Usain Bolt vs. Other Jamaican Guy Who May Be Even Faster, and maybe that American track & field lady whose inspiring life story involves her bizarrely public quest to remain a virgin at 29.
As a proud Brit I'm loving our opening ceremony.
What about you guys? (Especially non-Brits)

Well I'm in the US, so the Primetime broadcast for us won't start for another 3 hours, since it'd be unfortunate to try and watch while at work. I did find a stream that I was listening to general commentary (and well deserved nicks at Mitt the Twit) on, but I turned it off when the ceremony started, since the wife wanted me to wait and watch it with her. And I'm excited to watch everything, probably Swimming and Football most of all. Although those table-tennis players are just ridiculous! Twinkletoes89 Wrote:As a proud Brit I'm loving our opening ceremony.Pretty hermetic, hard to catch on to a lot of the cultural references without a very good inside knowledge of the society. I'd imagine that for a person with superficial knowledge of UK it'd be very hard to follow.
Bloody USA newscasters lead off first thing with wondering if the security is good enough. I can see how we can annoy y'all so much.

Credit to Danny Boyle; Beijing 2008 meant that a show focussing on traditional elements or synchronised displays would have reflected poorly, so he took a different direction. Worked okay, olympic flame/cauldron was innovative, not a bad start at all. Small bonus info for those not in the country: one British politician is already in trouble for tweeting that the opening ceremony was "The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen - more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state!".

I've had a pet theory for awhile that Pocketbeetle and Thoth are actually the same person, but then he killed off his PB account after making the Greatest Thread Ever because he figured he'd be immortal if he quit RB and never came back as soon as that thread ended. So... I guess this destroys that theory. |
