[Spoiler] Any volunteers for a human sacrifice? Brennus of the Aztecs, by Krill

OK, I have just captured Fuchsia, killing 8 muskets, 10 longbows, 10 spears, 4 maces, and then killing his small HA and cat stack, so a further 7 HA and 6 cats, for the cost of 2 knights, 1 HA and 13 cats.

I have every screenshot from before and after each fight but that's a little OTT. Unfortunately, the event log covers three screens. But it is mostly green. Unfortunately I used pretty much every single unit in that fight, so I can't start running through his lands whilst he regroups.

I have to run.

Can't wait for the update! Also, what's your breakeven research rate? Did you get any other techs?

Two stage assault, sat outside Fuchsia for a turn and removed all of the cultural defence, then in go the cats. The reason for this was that azza had to attack me immediately after I moved adjacent, otherwise my units would heal thanks to the M3+W3 jag, because I would move at the end of hte turn, turn rolls, azza attacks, and then I have to either attack then or bombard and, uh, heal for a turn...

Yeah, not like azza could have done anything with a mere 6 cats. He wouldn't even have been able to put collateral onto all of my knights. So I removed the cultural defence on T213, and T214 attacked. That was always the basis for any attack on azza, just outproduce him and stop collateral from hurting me by having too many units for him to collateral. Same theory for cats and flanking, but I also had help from the fact he had no horse, but that was always part of my long term strategy for dealing with him.

I attacked first with a CR3 cat, but after that I decided to attack with my few CR2 cats, and then with a bunch of CR1 cats, because I was not in Theocracy I was stuck with them. I think I lost something like all but one CR3 cats, all the CR2 ones and all but one CR1 cats that I attacked with. I did attack with a couple of C3 knights though, when they were getting 70% odds against muskets that were decimating the cats, and again after a longbow went two battles without taking a scratch and was really annoying me.

Something like 450bpt, but that is without OU down and I will not be researching again until I get it, so...more like 650+ when I turn tech back on in around 15 turns. Add in that I am the only major player still to have their 1GP GA left to use

All thanks to Sistine. My culture graph is scary. Not as scary as the power graph though...

Also, scooter offered peace, and I had to sit there for a while to make sure it wasn't some trick, but end of the day I'm kinda committed to dealing with azza now, so I accepted. Worst case scenario I have 10 turns to build galleons to defend with.

OK, I'm probably going to finish the turn tomorrow, but the (new) highlights are that I decided to move in with every knight higher than strength 8, because most of them still have enough XP to take another promotion to heal a bit, and that means I'm threatening Cerulean with a stack of 4 knights and a HA, and the city only has a single warrior, and I will be able to attack his capital with 5 knights on T216 (just playing T214). And I have three knights that will be attacking one of his cities that is cut off and has a single archer in. I will split this turn into two different slideshows...one of the hundred junk screenshots of the battles, and one for the rest.

Long story short, this is looking like the end for azza, which along with the unexpected bonus of RP from Nakor for Astro, and 853g from Pingo for the same, I'm now in position simply to sit back and play defensive on my other fronts for a bit and prepare for the Communism power play.

I love undercutting the tech leader, I played specifically to try and trade Astro right before scooter could finish researching it. I kinda hoped to get 1000 gold for it, but to get RP in addition to most of the gold was a great success, and Nakor just out right offered it. It makes sense for him to get Astro, he is 1 turn from Rifling, and he needs Astro to play defensive against scooty. And it isn't like it "costs" him anything to give me RP...except cementing me in a position of power. Nakor doesn't really have much hope of beating me even with rifles, he just lacks the basis of any standing army or navy to invade me, and lacks the MFG to produce one.

My tech rate and amount of tech I've had has never that far behind him, I've usually been around third place in total beakers accumulated, so the only player that could really try to out tech me and then beat me with superior units has been scooty, which was why I rushed to settle the island, so that he would be starting from a position of weakness vis à vis land and MFG, and I wouldn't just have all of my ports blockaded.

So...this is probably the point where I say I should be able to close this game out, and if I don't I have no one to blame but myself.

Are you considering asking for them to call it?
Also if you had communism this turn, what would breake even bpt be?

If you were in Pindicator/regoarrarr or Nakor's position, would you trade with your current empire?
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I will not ask any of the others to end the game whilst they are having fun, but if they wanted to call it I'm happy to end it. I would not say that I think they can't stop me from winning, that's just a little too much hubris for my liking.

If I had Communism and was in SP, I would have a breakeven of about 575bpt, up from my current breakeven of 500-ish. However, nede to remember that I make 140bpt from sources other than the slider.

Depends, I think buying Astro is a worthwhile deal for Nakor, he really does need it to defend against scooty, and he is still about 10 turns away from it. scooty will have the tech on T216 so they could just upgrade a bunch of galleys and go take every single island off Nakor. Nakor will have the ability to build rifles from T215 but that alone will not save him.

Pingo, though...they are a bit behind in the tech race, half a dozen turns say. But Astro isn't a critical tech, so they could have perhaps waited a few turns to see if anyone else got Astro before trying ot buy it for gold, because if multiple people got Astro they could have tried to buy it for less gold. OTOH, buying it for gold from scooty, or me, or Nakor doesn't exactly change the point, someone gets the gold for the tech to keep on teching. scooty are further ahead in tech and are still teching OK, but that will drop once they actually finish Astro, so perhaps buying it from them is smarter, still...it's not without any downsides.

Pingo did start Chemistry research this turn though and are due to finish that in 6 turns. That is a tech they probably shouldn't sell to me until after they have sold it to Nakor...unless they try to sell it for 2K gold to me (which isn't happening BTW). They can't sell it to scooty, because they are at war, so Nakor is the only other player and he often brokers stuff to other players, so that is one of the reasons to not sell anything to him. People get rather pissed off with the brokering, one of the reasons I don't broker stuff to anyone except Brick, and those are gifts. Sure, it pisses off scooter but that's his fault for starting the war in the first place.
