Nicolae Carpathia goes Noob Stomping

First city is? (please tell me you want the first city to be the settler/worker pump so you can work early cottages) I wouldn't give up on wonders, you just need to use financial to get to later wonders (GLib/MoM) first. Normally, on Deity, I don't build many wonders...human players can't compare with Deity bonuses...the trick is identifying *which* wonders are critical to your strategy.

I think Brick shuffled around the Civ flag and colours.

No food resources in sight frown

I still want a city to share my capital's cottages in the north. Though not for a while, I'm not taking wet corn from my capital just for the sake of a few cottage. I need yield! And that means settling somewhere with a good food tile.

This is a stealth nerf to FIN, because it discourages us from going for a super early cottage city as our second city smile

I personally like my 2nd city as a worker pump, and my capital doing 6-3 pop whip cycles for settlers. However, for me, I want my worker pumps to be hammer heavy, because the EXP bonus only works on hammers (unless I whip, in which case the best scenario is to do the shrink-food-box over the next growth threshold and overflow onto a second worker). Details will be worked out later.

In other news. There's a little plains farm. I don't think I'll ever work that tile, so it'll probably get pillaged. There's also a 1-tile road that won't be very useful. Luckily, it won't be a liability, because it won't speed up any opponents towards my core.

Second city always sucks but I don't see where I'd want to put it yet. Agree on AH first. Almost definitely Pottery after that. Think focus needs to be on early vertical in cap and Big B in play ASAP - that Capital is absolutely insanely good. Agree that best plan is punishing wonder-builders with military, especially novice who tends to play passively.

I think you should name your cities in an homage to my FFH7 cities as payment for conning me into dedlurking you in a game with all interesting players. :oldwink:

Holey moley where is the food? Good capital yes, good land yes, but terrible 2nd city locations.

I'll run some sims later today. Pottery is an option, sure, but I don't think we'll be commerce limited. We're food and hammer limited. Granaries are one option to get more food/hammers, but they don't speed up the initial settlers and workers. Mining-Bronzeworking does.

So we'll see. Let's test it out.

I've had a feel for it, and I don't think early pottery is the right option. We have a ton of forests. And all we can use early pottery for are grass cottages and granaries. I just don't think those things will help us get our first set of workers and settlers out soon enough.

I think second city is almost definitely going to have to share the corn with the old Commodore-ian no food in the first ring nonsense. You're of course correct that the whip/mines are going to be necessary here before cottages.

Aw damn, Serdoa found me first. That sucks. The one person with the most turn advantage finds me first. The annoying thing is that it's only T8 for him, capitals are ~16 tiles apart, meaning he pretty much spent 6 turns heading straight towards me.

Let's hope he doesn't try to harass my Oasis with that scout. Though the thing is, the two of are the weakest players so there's no reason harassing one another and handing the game to Mack or Seven.

And we've finally found food! A wet wheat, an excellent tile. Oh, to be Creative, then I'd plant somewhere 4N of the capital.

Serdoa gained 6pts last turn from AH. Seven's gained 6pts this turn, probably from Ag.

Good. Serdoa hasn't tried to harass me with his scout. That tells me he doesn't want some kind of punitive expedition sent south.

I shall oblige.

More land with no resources.

Found horses.

And they're pretty awkward. No food around here, remember?

Warrior will be built T16. He can reach the tundra hill 6 of the horses on T19. If no food there, then I have the option of either settling 44 of the horses and using the capital's corn for growth and chopping a monument, or ignoring the horses and settling somewhere 4N of the capital and chopping a monument to get the wheat.

Both suck, because monuments suck. At least in 35 my first 2 non-capital cities had their food in their inner ring, which is crucial for a fast start. EXP Inca would be great for this map, but nooo, Mackoti took them and is laughing all the way to the bank.

Oh wait, Mack quit on us frown No idea of his replacement is as terrifying.
