PHEW! That worked. So it was not that bad, that lung injury.
That would have sucked to be killed by a Giant snail!
I make it to Abyssround! Woohoo!.
The dominant skin colour here is cinnamon and the hair colour raw umber, so I am definitely in foreign lands now!
Their capital is Wealthgills far to the southeast. The guys here are pretty isolated (check the world map).
Anyway, I make a tour of the hamlet and find myself astound about the well crafted clothes they have a round. Leather items mostly, but very well crafted. Much higher skill (and value) compared to the clothes I found in The Slippery Confederation!
And then I see this:
Just lying around in the first hamlet I visit? A piece of fine art?
Nice.
I will stay here for the rest of the day (it took me around 7 hours to get here from across the bay (btw. that bay still needs a name I think!).
And I will debate whether to exchange my clothes with their items. Kind of a trade.

I also renew my invitation for anyone interested to give this one a go. I happily provide the save for someone else to pick it up and entertain us with stories of chipped bones and bruised kidneys!

I actually downloaded DF and generated a world and started a character, but I could not find my way around the starting hamlet with all the z-level changes and whatnot.

Use the stonesense viewer to have an easier start.

So I guess mortal wounds are not so mortal after all? And how did you manage to swim without an arm and with a useless leg?
Do items ever break? It looks like food doesn't spoil.

Items do not break. Food if it is "prepared" does not rot. However, if you just leave a corpse lying around untreated it will rot. Within a fortress that can lead to miasma, which can further lead to FUN.

By FUN, you mean losing, right? This is DF, after all.

Debating with myself on if and how to continue this, I was browsing some DF related material and came across this comment, which I thought I share:
Quote:Playing a game for the graphics is like watching porn for the story.

I have decided to continue my travels tomorrow, alone.
No companions. And I will also leave their clothes and items untouched.
It is south I am heading, to the fortress, where I examine another piece of fine art:
Then further south to more populated areas.
As I come to a river, instinct tells me to be watchful in these strange lands.
And that is very good, as I was about to plunge into the water in the middle of gigantic alligators!
Quickly turning around, two of the beasts follow me, but are both killed by thrown stones, expert whipping and slicing.
Moving further along the stream, there are hippos and rhinos all over the place.
I carefully swim the river and circle the rhinos.
