Right, Timmy. The F6 screen will also show "advances to X era", but only if the tech is immediately available to research and you are not yet in that era. If you know Electricity, the mouseover for Radio will show "Advances to Modern Age". If you don't know Electricity or have already entered the modern age with another tech, Radio won't show that.
Also note that the Future Age does not strictly mean Future Tech; a few other late-game techs also do it.

It's my turn to ask for a clarification. We have two rules:
Quote:You may not pay a rival to declare war (military alliance), except with your Blood Brother.
...
* Once you have a Blood Brother, you may declare war against any civ with whom he is ALREADY AT WAR. While in a mutual war alongside your Blood Brother, you are allowed to attack enemy units (even workers) anywhere on the map except inside enemy cities, and you are allowed to pillage enemy resources (including spy sabotage), WITHOUT these actions being considered as "invasion". You are also allowed to pillage or sabotage any tiles under enemy cultural control directly adjacent to your Blood Brother's territory (his border with the enemy, if any). Anything beyond these defensive moves to aid your Blood Brother is still allowed (any warring is allowed) but will count toward invasion penalties in your score.
My question:
Once I legally obtain a blood brother can I bribe them into war (even if I remain neutral)? I don't quite see a "no" above, but I don't think these war bribes are what you had in mind. (Civ3 only had the "lets both declare!" option, IIRC)
Edit: An alternate reading could be: The only time you can bribe a rival into war is when obtaining your Blood Brother.

This is OK, as long as the bribe is against your Blood Enemy. No against anyone else. I'm not sure why you'd want to have BB capturing territory from BE rather than doing it yourself, though.

That's not the intent; you can bribe BB against BE as many times as you like. Could be desirable and necessary if BB makes peace before you want him to.

Right, and I overlooked your case. Why did they have to go make Civ 4 such a better game?

my pc is starting to really drag - any suggestions on how to reduce the civ4 drag on my resources?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

The one thing that works for me is to save and reload every dozen turns or so. Civ 4 consistently slows down after a while of continuous running with no reloads. (That's why my replay screenshots always show 30 sessions for a 10 hour game.)
Other than that, afraid I don't have any suggestions other than the usual, reduce graphical settings and resolution. But most of Civ 4's late game lag is CPU bound, not graphics, so there's only so much gain to be had there.

The other trick is close every other application on your PC except what you are using for your report. I had real problems with late game on a large map, and I finally completed it with closing every app except Word to record the report. IIRC I also had to reboot before I could finish those turns.

More memory isn't an option. However, I dumbed down the graphics and killed all of the other apps that I was running before playing about 10 turns tonight. It was ok, not great but certainly not the 30 seconds to bring up an AI diplo screen that I was getting.

Another note - if I unload all other programs, my memory utilization goes down to the about 33% ... once I load up this game, it jumps to over 90%. At least I am not page swapping which would really kill the speed.
