Civilisation Network for Facebook back on the horizon?

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/11/civili...arrives-2/

Looks like they've finally remembered that they mentioned this ages ago and have decided to pick it up again.

After the poor reaction to Civ5 it well turn out to be just as bad, if not worse, but I thought I'd best make people aware of it at least!

Something tells me it may not replace LoL as the game of choice for RB in the near future...

Since Firaxis has been extremely quiet about what in the world Civ Network will actually be, I'm at least curious to see what develops. But I can't say I'm too terribly interested, given the simplistic grinding formula of most Facebook applications.

It's not the first time that Civilization lineage has migrated to Facebook. Brian Reynolds, lead designer of Civ 2 and SMAC, is now chief designer at Zynga.

I'll bump this thread with this news. Brian Reynolds has resigned from Zynga. No word on what he's doing next.

This is awesome news, if it gets Brian Reynolds producing real games again rather than addiction-center manipulators. I seem to remember he joined Zynga genuinely believing that mobile-social-freemium was the future of gaming, which actually was a reasonable prediction in 2009, and it's also reasonable for that opinion to fall by the wayside now.

And while I'm here, this bit is older, but awesome for any lover of SMAC. It's Brian Reynolds along with Soren Johnson talking about SMAC for an hour-plus.

The best trend in gaming in the last year or so has been the economic collapse of the Facebook "spam your friends with endless ads and pay to win" model of game design. Here's to hoping that a great mind like Reynolds will be back working on more substantive fare.

Maybe they will work on RTS games that can follow up to the past games like MOM . Just feels like the market died in the RTS genre .
