im not even sure thats what the spanish meant. It may be, but I'm not sure we can be clear on the intent of that message until we get a fluent spanish speaker to interact with them.
Can we just get Ichabod to log into the diplo email and drop them a quick message? Then scooter can post any replies in this thread .

I could do that, but I'd need to know what do you want to say to them. I'm a bit lost about our diplomatic goals.
Ichabod, are you confident that you can communicate in Spanish with these guys, since they are obviously not putting a ton of effort into being understood? If not, remember that both regoarrarr and I speak Spanish.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

My spanish is basic and more based on the similarity with portuguese than anything. I didn't remember we had other people able to speak it. If you guys can do it, I'm more than happy to defer the job to you.
Any objections to me just sending something like this?
Draft to Spanish Apolyton Wrote:Hey guys. We are a little confused by what you are trying to tell us in your message, did we miss something? We have several players who are very comfortable in Spanish, so if you would like to just explain in Spanish that would be fine too.
why do we need to ask them if we can send them something in spanish? why not just have rego or merovich, well, send them something in spanish? we just need to appoint one (or both) of them to be the diplomat for spanish team only, and be done with it.

We don't want to offend them. Since we mentioned it in our opening post to them and they ignored it, I think that it is better to be safe then sorry. I would probably feel differently if they were t so far away and so far behind, of course, because we would then need to communicate better. As it stands now, effective diplo with the Spanish is a luxury beyond simply being friendly wih them.

how will that offend them? They already mentioned not thinking their message was clear enough: so they restated it in a message that is most definitely not clear!
Would it offend you if someone sent you a message in English? That's silly. Just send them a message in spanish that says "we weren't exactly clear what your message meant, can you resend it in spanish?"

I suppose you could always pass this CFC's way and maybe they'll waste a few hammers on units.
