AT loves it when a plan comes together!! [Spoilers]

given the map, if we are fighting in 30 turns, Jowy's nuts. He might be nuts, sure. the thing is, elephants are effective against knights as stack defenders, so he doens't have to be offensive.

He's got plenty of land to grab. For him to take a city from us will require something like 200-300 hammers - 3 or 4 cats, a few axes, a couple of elephants. More axes if no elephants.

An early war just makes it harder for him to get to education, which is his nirvana - cheap unis and oxford driving tech advantages.

Fair enough, there is a lot of land despite our proximity. And if Jowy thinks that he can outtech us, then he has no reason to be aggressive in the near term.

So what's your city order plan?

Also, remember that this is no tech brokering, not no tech trading. Jowy bulbs may be all he needs to keep up in tech - he just trades it to others.

Lakefish is next. For one thing, I don't need a worker to improve it right now - whipping a workboat->granary->lighthouse is it's plan.
After that - one of pigs, marble or commerce, I think. I've got to figure out the tech plan. Basically, there are 3 tech plans that make sense:

1) Currency - wealth and the extra trade route is nice.
2) Polytheism/Aesthetics/Lit - epics and Glib are really good. This will drive the marble site.
3) Construction - if we think Jowy is getting antsy.

We also need sailing at some point in there.

My guess is that we go aesthetics/lit - collosus makes the extra trade route kinda eh, especially as we have no islands or foreign routes. Also, Marble gives us more a land path to the horses, which helps shut down barb galleys in the shared sea. My guess is that we go there and, in fact, build the GLib/NE in marble. But I'm not sure of that.

Well, at least we'll have covering units wink

Wow - cornflakes did 2 3 pop whips. Those have to be settlers, no? maybe a settler and oracle. We don't even have 2 cities that can DO 3 pop whips...

Yay!! no loss to barb swords...

How do I know?

We didn't lose any score in the interturn!! yay for archers!!

I think there's a fair chance that other civs might have gotten run over in that situation - a couple of axes might or might not have taken out 5 swords...

So, the big battle.

Well, I won all 4 battles, though I probably got a little lucky - the swords had 16%, 24%, 36% and 30% chances, so one of them probably should have won.

I hope to god other people are having the barb visitors i'm having.

That's 16 barbarians I've killed, not including animals.

I STILL can't plant that city, cause a barb showed up at lake fish (and didn't attack an archer). I've had this settler fartin around for 4 turns now.

this is an overview:

Cornflakes killed a barb earlier, btw. they won't go away! I, apparently, did a crappy job barb busting...

I'm going sailing, btw - hopefully, I can open up trade routes with jowy once I plant, help us both out.

planting order of cities:

My plan now is commerce->marble. Fact is, those are the best sites I have, both with multiple food and other specials and specials drive this game. I want to get the horse site after that, plus the pigs, fish/banana/ivory and the production site. Mindy's Moai has to get in there (and I'm becoming more enamored of it as a Moai site - my original moai site is dangerously exposed to Jowy and MASH has other duties.

the turnly barb report (or, at least they give me something to do):

I killed 2 last turn (hexagons), I now have 4 in or near my borders (rectangles). They'll all die, just a question of how long it takes to kill 'em.

Got sailing, can trade with jowy, so I asked him to trade OB. See if he is amenable - will be a nice boost to both our GNP's, so I'm guessing he does.

Note that he has horse and fur - he settled a city basically on the ice. Given that it has horse and fur, probably a good choice, since he's not charismatic like us.

Killed 2 barbs with archers - one gave me a CIII archer, the other CG III... Nice...

Jowy did accept OB with us, so 3 extra commerce!! woo and hoo!!!

Expansive or organized would be nice traits on this map.

Question to any lurkers about PBEM etiquette - I've not really played much other than AW.

I now have OB with Jowy. Is it considered rude to send a scout through his territory? or is it "OB is OB", do what you will?
