Would it be better to pause the game in its current state to avoid having to replay? Azza and I are at war, and re-rolling combats could be problematic if we need a reload.

There should be no need for a reload as long as you hold the turn. I'd rather avoid pausing the game right now to minimize spoilers.

I think what I'll do is just wait until tomorrow morning to play (about 9 hours from now). I have to wait until Azza ends his turn anyway. I would be less odd for me to just play in the morning rather than playing in 3 hours before I go to bed and then waiting another 6 hours to end my turn.
I MUST end my turn before I leave home at 7am Eastern Time (12 Noon GMT) after I play tomorrow morning. There would still be about 8 hours on the timer, but if I don't end my turn then I can't possibly get to it for another 12 hours and probably more. Hopefully 9 hours will be enough.

I don't see why you need to end your turn...you could just wait for the timer to expire.

I think it'd be good to get out of it, so maybe peace for his city this turn, then working up to a gpt/gold deal in the turns after.
Isn't letting the turn run out impolite?
I presume there's a reason for it, but getting curious why.

I guess that would work too ... Someone is likely to comment when the timer runs down to an hour or two, but once I'm gone in the morning I'm gone for the day and can't log in to end turn 
We're 90 turns in without the timer expiring, and the new guy (me) can get a pass for forgetting to end turn once. I'll just log in mobile around mid-day and say "Sorry for not ending turn. Won't be home until evening. I apologize for the delay." Just make sure you don't log into the game after I post that Q  In the interest of avoiding spoilers it's best to not ask questions, Q.
I don't think offering peace for his city is a good idea. If he hasn't taken the bait he's smart enough to know that he can hold the city until we come back with cats. Let's just offer peace for whatever gold he has on hand. If he refuses then we pillage around the city and then make the offer again.

Offer peace for city (he refuses) now offer peace for all gold +gpt.
Hopefully he gets the idea that we want him to name a price.
It also means that there's a chance he thinks the deal is worthwhile too.
Are we allowed to negotiate more then once per turn?

You can send multiple trade offers sure. Just don't spam him with them to be obnoxious.
