Hahaha, and you thought that this wouldn't be fun.

BJ - I'm wondering about that, too - I get aforest chop and a whip, so BJ could build a couple of galleys pretty easily.

Attacking jowy is probably harder than it seems - he's really vulnerable, but we have to worry about cornflakes on our backside. Cornflakes could fairly easily put an army larger than Jowy's a tile from SWAT and we don't have a good way to react to that right now. Plus, of course, Jowy has the SoZ. Not saying we can't attack Jowy - it's just a little bit dangerous, is all.

Well, I admit to expecting different behavior from Jowy wink If he'd attacked LA Law when he first could, this would be less fun - he'd probably have the city with a stack of 10-12 units left and we wouldn't have an army. cornflakes would probably have piled on by then.

In Jowy's defense, I'm sure that Feudalism caught him by surprise.

Short update:

Jowy decided to combine his stack and bombard LA Law.
Jowy now has an elephant and a warrior in horizon.
Commodore offered to declare war on Jowy if we bribed him with Paper and Compass. I declined.
Cornflakes offered Drama and Music for Feudalism - I declined, though may counter - we'll have to see. He chose to move his settler away, so that's good - I thought he wouldn't take that spot.

Pics later - main plan is to reinforce LA Law and bring units up, then clean him up after he attacks

k - the battle plan:

these are the forces arrayed (currently) at LA Law:

Note that he did promote the elephants, so I'm not planning on taking another shot.

My plans for reinforcements:

The green box will have a cat, 2 LB and a mace. I'll whip in another cat in LA law, and I'll move a cat into LA Law. There is no way he can take LA Law - just not possible.

I am not sure what he'll do at that point - my guess is bombard again, cause with 22% defense, his odds aren't very good. We'll see.

here's a question for lurkers:

What happens if a city expands it's culture when it's been partly bombarbed? LA Law expands it's borders next turn, and it will likely be at zero.

Do the defenses strengthen? Stay the same? Bear in mind that it had walls and it's just going to the 40% level. I'm guessing nothing happens, but I really don't know. Anyone?

Your defense bonus is equal to your normal defense bonus multiplied by your current defense percentage. Your current defense percentage, if not 100%, is shown in parentheses at the top right of your city screen. Getting another level of culture can increase your normal defense bonus, but not your current defense percentage.

But if he pops a border to 60% doesn't that mean the defense is now x% of some larger number, and therefore it increases? It seems like this happened to me in one of my games and it improved my defensive position, but I don't remember which one it happened in. As with most mechanics things, I could have it wrong here.

So, here's LA Law's city screen - the numbers that NH was talking about are being pointed to by a big red arrow (least, I think that's what he means)

That I have walls confuses some things, of course - my max city D is 50% (which doesn't show up here, I think) - my current is 22%, which is 44% of 50. If I expanded from 40-60 culture, my max would get larger, and so would my current (to 26%). Since I will go from 20->40, nothing will happen.

And if I was completely reduced, it wouldn't matter if I built Chichen Itza, a castle and expanded all in the same turn..0% of anything is 0.

Thanks, NH smile I figured it was something like that... but was kind of hoping for expansion meaning cultural healing wink

so, I've been running some simulations, and we are really premature to talk about killing his stack - right now, it's basically immune to attack. I think we need some 10-15 catapults OR 10+ maces to kill it - or, of course, for it to impale itself on us.

The problem is that it's so big - 6 cats may easily leave some elephants untouched, or at 7.3 - and only a mace can get odds at 7.3 (Pikes can, but they end up attacking axes)

Now, he ends up with the same math, btw. his 7 cats can't do lots of damage to anyone, so he makes a lot of middle-odds attacks.
