Now you have terrible choice: start a warrior at max hammers and delay your worker 4 turns? If you don't and Byz declares war, your game is done.

Or take a chance, declare war on *him* and immediately ask for peace. Naturally this would have worked better if your scout wasnt next to his warrior. alright

Dedlurker mine, I'm beginning to worry about the "ded" part of that, especially since my last two non-demo screenshots have both moused over their unit and shown that it was a scout neenerneener

Played the turn. Worker -> Worker as per the original micro plan. Moved the scout up, exposing another grassland tile, and then back down into the forest in my borders. Team BXB logged in after my play last turn, so they will have had vision on my scout last turn and this turn, and thus know I'm coming up from the east. I'm going to skirt around to the northwest and see what's there, which should disappear me from their views. Bears moved back into the fog.

We probably won't get a third turn in today because of Azza's location, so an updated sim/micro plan/C&D report should be in the cards for this afternoon after I finish work.

EDIT: Also, @Krill, this is late, but lol

Extra edit: I saw that BXB updated their thread and CivStats showed a login, so I logged in myself to see if anything changed. They moved their scout off the jungle hill into the fog - it wasn't yet fully healed, so that's an interesting choice. Will keep you, my beloved lurkers, posted if it pops up again.

Phew! Yeah, I'm seeing it on my phone, so the scout-ness didn't jump out at me.

Telah saved us, even from retirement! :-)

Actually, that proposal was mine, back in the original organizing thread :P

So my hopes to pull together a better sandbox and C&D sheet were somewhat dashed by my grandfather becoming seriously ill and rushed to Intensive Care. He is currently stable, and looking at civstats it appears I did not hold up the turn by much, so all's well on both those fronts, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to find the time for a more extensive micro plan.

The good news is that I don't have to start worrying about those unplanned worker actions until t34 or so, so at the current pace of about 2t every 24 hours, that gives me ten days to sort things out. Until then, I'd greatly appreciate feedback in terms of macro-level strategy - city thoughts, tech path, ideas for dealing with MP vets running Byzantium, that sort of thing. I understand Ceil is currently busy sorting things out with PBEM50, and globals are restricted from giving specific advice, but some Socratic inquiry would be very helpful - asking questions that I might not have asked yet to get me thinking down the proper channels.

Anyway. On to the report, such as it is! This was my first experience playing on the roll, and it was pretty anticlimactic - I moved my scout, skipped my worker's turn, ended turn, skipped my worker's turn again, moved my scout again, gaped at a bear 2t away, thanked the Lord Sid that Merovech wasn't about to get eaten, took a screenshot, took a demo screenshot, realized that I'd forgotten to take a demo screenshot on t13 in my rush to play, swore, and ended turn.

The northwest is so green! I am looking forward to exploring this some more - lack of river makes it less attractive for FIN cottage spam, but maybe there's some good hilly terrain next to food for a production city? Also, BXB's scout is entirely out of my vision, so they've either poked into my eastern frontier or, if they're actually west of me, might have cut north to see what's there.

Demos from turn 12 and 14. I caught ANOTHER lucky break - no changes! I'm guessing everyone's busy researching their second tech and building workers (or building their followup to their first worker such that they can grow).

Well PB50 is sorted to amenable results all around. Sorry to hear about your grandpa, don't hesitate to pause if that's what needs to happen.

As for global advice, I'm sure some of the other players are getting advice... this is a greens game after all. Guys, where you at?

My condolences.

How about this: Which is more important to you over the next twenty turns, growing or expanding?
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Thanks, guys.

@Ceil: Glad to hear PBEM50 is sorted out. Pauses won't be necessary; I have a laptop with BTS on it and can play from there if need be, though the screenshots won't be so pretty.

@Mero: I would definitely say expanding. I've got a lot of good land in my capital's first ring, and a ton of forests I can turn into workers and settlers. I don't have the techs I'd want to grow vertically, and a paucity of great tiles to work even if I did. Though... well, you'll see!

The turn rolled this morning instead of last night. This means we might only get through one turn today - it seems Azza can only play during his afternoon, and normally he gets to play two turns as a result, but team BXB didn't get to t14 last night like they usually do (I know from PB8 tech thread posts that xenu was busy, and he seems to be their main turnplayer).

The bear moved toward our scout, of course, but on a tile which means we were still able to move twice in a desirable direction and end turn in defensive terrain! jive Nothing new and groovy spotted yet, but still useful to get more vision.

Speaking of more vision...

BFC grassland copper! Woo! Though this does mean I am going to have to switch up the existing micro plan a tad. Speaking of which, I went ahead with the chop, which was a mistake - I should have seen grass copper and logged out to rework the micro rather than stick slavishly to my existing plan. In my defense, I'm still half-asleep (last night was incredibly hot and I found it nearly impossible to sleep). Is it better to be spending these turns chopping to get out my full cadre of early workers or to spend four turns boosting that tile from 3 to 6 yield?

In other news, team BXB's scout has resurfaced on my eastern frontier. Hi! I'd offer you a drink, but we haven't the tech yet to build a winery neenerneener.

For those wondering, my worker naming scheme will be letters of the Russian alphabet, in overlapping celebration of weird Unicode symbols and most glorious motherland of Russia.

Demos. I've sure got a lot of fake power!
