Would settling 2S of eastern crab make any sense (grabs 3 food after border somehow pops) or is it undefendable if Seven settles for one of the plains hills?

I answered this question in the turn report. I'll probably be able to answer a lot of questions during the early parts of the game in the reports because there isn't much to write about, so if anyone else has any questions feel free to post them.

The reason I don't like waterways is starting to crystallize.

Basically the "correct" shape for an empire, with regards to defending, is globular so that you can defend all points from one central position with a single fast mover stack. Waterways makes this impossible for some starts (surrounded by lakes and seas so less useful land) and even easier for others (only so many entries to a central nexus). Of course, you settle the cities that are most productive in the early game etc etc but the aim is still to have a specific shaped empire and to not settle beyond a strong front city that is not cost effective for anyone else to try and raze.

Although I should also note that that is a problem inherent in any map script that has a large variety of land form types, so it's not like it's unique to Torusworld. Just why I prefer Inland OIceans and Inland Seas.
