You make a good point, Jester. It's just that OR is an expensive civic to run, but I guess I'm being silly. So let's not tech Meditation, then. All we need to decide is IW first or second.

Main reason I value Construction slightly higher than IW (we already have metal). Going to need siege anyway (to make early war viable) and catapults are good defensive units as well (collateral). Going Construction then IW would be my preferred path.

Hey THH - I don't think you should be building markets anywhere but Courcellette - you're going to be running high research from now on and getting gold from HAK (have you set up a standing order of gpt yet?)
HAK should be building the financial buildings while you build libraries and units for HR happiness. I'd suggest that monasteries could be useful for you once you've built everything else useful and have >30 base commerce in a city, but they aren't as good as settlers for HAK and units for both of you just yet. Jester - have you got any thoughts about HAK ending up with lots more cities than THH? Being EXP means the quick granary gets them set up really fast and IMP gives cheap forges. Can you see any problems with HAK expanding and placing mostly production cities while THH has a small number of research-focused cities?
Completed: RB Demogame - Gillette, PBEM46, Pitboss 13, Pitboss 18, Pitboss 30, Pitboss 31, Pitboss 38, Pitboss 42, Pitboss 46, Pitboss 52 (Pindicator's game), Pitboss 57

Can you see any problems with HAK expanding and placing mostly production cities while THH has a small number of research-focused cities?I think it's fine for HAK to have more cities (focused mainly on production) that could, if needed, build wealth to funnel to THH for research. However, THH staying small is a mistake. He should spam out commerce cities (read research cities) as long as there are good commerce sites available. As long as a settled city makes more gpt than it costs, the modified research output is going to be higher the more cities you have (assuming each city has a library). Assuming a typical city outputs 20 commerce (+25% research for library) or 25 bpt, having 10 cities (250 bpt) will yield higher research output than 8 cities (200 bpt). Just need to make sure the settled cities are *quality* commerce sites. Small city count isn't the key. The trick is to only settle high commerce sites (with each city getting the +25% research boost). Adding in universities (where production is sufficient) and observatories increases the disparity even more drastically. Bigger is indeed always better. ![]()

THH, make sure next turn you let me play my next turn before you play yours. I need to be able to give you my current stash of gold and gift over these archers. In a few turns I'll switch to Hinduism now that I have 2 cities with it (it spread to another of mine this turn). I'll also be completing my first Missionary in two turns. I think I may wait until the turn before I can spread Hinduism to my capital before switching to the religion.
Also, don't switch yourself to OR until after we've gotten Construction. I want to get to that one as quickly as possible. So after that, you can switch to OR, but don't do so before. So if you can't go 100% research next turn, do 50%. And hopefully the turn after we can still get the tech.
Aaand Jester is right, too, of course.
We have a couple interesting situations developing. In HAK's north: ![]() In my north: ![]() There's nothing on the galley, but I can move it 2S and put two chariots on it next turn if we want to go after Mutal, or wait and put other units on it in a couple turns. Juno Beach can double-whip an axe next turn if we want to go after it hard, though that would stack whip-unhappiness, and another axe can reach Juno the turn after next. There's the spear there, too, of course, and Destroyer of Everyone and one of HAK's archers can reach the city next turn as well. What do you guys think we should do? Sorry HAK, I had already played and was writing my post when you posted this. But you were still able to give me your gold succesfully. ?? And all those other trades. I think gifting the archers is illegal now, but just move them how I marked in the signs and move and gift them next turn. I had the same thought about when to revolt to OR. I won't be able to do 100% next turn but I can keep the slider as high as it'll go. Btw who put the sign that said to work cottages, not forests at Juno Beach? I wasn't working any forests ... |
