update for diplo: regoarrarr agrees to keeping our eps level at 42 between the two of us so we both only see each others graphs; we have a little spare gold atm so we upped the esp slider to 20% this turn to get an extra 5 ep against him (only need 80% science to get writing eot, then next turn we save gold, and t60 start research on something else).

Brief chat with Kalin about the NAP, he claimed to be busy, and said Lin had a decision but not a reply. I fully expect that to mean **** off. Which isn't unreasonable from Lin, as they have 2 weak allies next to them and then us in the remaining direction; we are the only real threats, and running a paper military. They have vultures if they have metal (assuming copper as worst case scenario, and I doubt they would be belligerent without it, so that's a fair assumption IMO), and spears.
Well this'll be fun. No metal against Vultures. The whole argument of vultures being crap against axes suddenly doesn't seem all that pertinent, does it? So HBR is looking mighty attractive again...this is probably going to end up getting played old school ladder style with massive HA stacks, then head straight for Construction. Obviously not going to win this game, but hell will it be fun!
Interesting bit is Broker/regoarrarr/ZPV get to grow; nothing I can do about that apart from hope everyone else grows quicker, and then can keep them busy enough so that I don't get 5v1'd (which would have happened anyway, except this time sunrise is weaker). However...who gets this land if/when I die? Biggest question is how/when we'll get hit.
NB. This is assuming the NAP gets turned down by Dreylin: if it doesn't then I'll still have to play this as if I'm going to get hit, but also be mindful of the future. Really the only effect turning down an NAP is going to have is that I have to defend against a pillaging stack, which I figure I'll be able to do so long as it isn't pure spears.
Damn it sucks having no metal. Teching IW is just such a bit risk. Writing was probably such a big mistake...even though I need it to get cats and eles (which are going to be the only thing that will defend the choke point). I'm probably going to have a grand total of 0 units that get defensive boni in the front city unless I can grab IW in a trade with someone asap and find it pops in my capital.

I agree! This is why I like the civ4 mechanic where a strategic resource is often revealed before it is useful (eg SciMeth revealing oil). Sadly, no such luck with Iron or Copper.

We'll we have the advantage that Ruff will almost certainly have IW by the time I find him. The only question is whether I can find someone with alphabet...and I can't tech it Ironically that's the one tech that I can't afford to get; everything else can be used to produce a defense, except that tech which makes me gamble on trading with unknown teams. Especially if my scouts start dying (and so do the other teams that are nearing me. If the latter does happen...I dare anyone to call me ruthless ).

Apology to sunrise. I've been thinking about it since I offered it; it was meant purely as a joke, so I offered it in bad faith (even if I agree to abide by it). Jerking sunrise around like that wasn't quite fair.
Quote:Krill: Yo sunrise
how much do you want to kill me in the RB game?
alot, or your troops are already on their way?

Krill: I chatted with regoarrar earlier today, and I figured I owe you an apology
not for hte worker steal
I'm sure you understand why I had no choice with that
I owe you an apology for offering the NAP in bad faith
sunrise: hi Krill
Krill: wassup
sunrise: I don't want to kill you really more than anyone else. But from my perspective it was very dastardly - a worker steal is a worker steal, but at least from my perspective it happened while we were discussing an NAP
Krill: Ah
You didn;t know I took the worker before offering the NAP...
Actually I meant the NAP as a joke
But knew I would abide by it if you accepted
I just didn;t think you would have accepted quite so quickly
Just wondering out loud here
and as someone with a fair chunk of MP experience you will surely understand where I'm coming from
How would you have expected someone to react to getting locked out of a 5 way alliance?
I figure we're both out of contention for this game now, really
Sent at 9:25 PM on Thursday
sunrise: well i figure I am
you still have options open
anyways, I'm not baffled by what you dd. I would not have done it, but we obviously have different playing styles. For what it's worth, i don't accept entirely accept that you were backed into a corner, at least as far as my understanding of the diplomacy 3 turns ago syands.
*stands
Krill: Really? Don;t forget that I have no knowledge of any diplomacy with anyone out of the alliance
Sent at 9:30 PM on Thursday
sunrise: no, I understand the situation wasn't great. But even assuming the five of us trade for the entire game and we never trade with you, you still have just as many other civs out there to contact. Any trade is still 15 turns away at absolute minimum (unless someone researches alpha a lot faster than I think they can) so there was plenty of time to try to set something up
Krill: Everyone has eles
You are a grand total of, what, 900 beakers away from contruction if 1 person goes straight there
and you and Dreylin don;t look to have any way to expand except through me
So exactly what can I do again?
perhaps I'm jaded
and cynical
but I don't see anything good in any fashion happening to me whatever happens
and taking your worker weakens you.
Well, it'll be fun though
you get to organise a crusade upon the great evil worker stealer
Krill: Anyway, I came here to apologise for the NAP offer in bad faith. I only really did it because I thought it'd be something funny to talk about after the game had ended and for the threads, so I'm sorry if think it was a little...ruthless?
sunrise: sorry, was on phone
Krill: np
sunrise: I do think it was a little ruthless, but I accept the apology over NAP timing

After thinking about it, going back to the original plan A which Speaker suggested seems the right move. Changed research to Archery (1 turn from completing writing), and saving gold. Will research Archery in 4, eot t61, then will research HBR until t71ish, then whip, chop and build HA and throw them at Dreylin. Need maximum cities to do that though, so I'll be pushing to get 6 cities asap.
The aim is for t80 to have 10 HA and 5 chariots at the front city (it's a city for hte southern fish and corn) ready to go forward along an already constructed road (and I'm looking at dedicating a minimum of 4 workers to this, but I have plans for up to 8 depending on need for speed and to give options).
Realistically, I would sacrifice a stack of that size to take Dreylins capital and everything north of it; that'd be an acceptable exchange rate for me. If that worked, along with sunrise weakened, I think I could offer a solid peace deal to everyone else and would actually have a shot at not getting crushed after they got construction. It'd also let me push forward hopefully a little to grab any resources I couldn't get to my west that are only in the south.

Remember that Chariots crush Vultures, since Vultures are Axe replacements, so make sure to bring some of those along with your HA.

With so many forrest and the vulture higher power (compare to basic axe), "crush" is not exactly the word I would have used
(but sure you better have a few chariots with your HAs)

Yup, Chariots are definately going to be built, probably with whip overflow, and gettign a few out before I finish research into HBR. Considering the speed at which I can build HA, I think I can revise the estimate for the size of the stack I can build upwards towards 12 HA minimum out of the first 3 cities, and a couple of chariots out of cities 4 and 5 each.
I think if I really punish my citizens I could be pushing a 20 unit stack by t80, with 60% being HA. With a stack that size I could feasibly take out Dreylins' capital and still have units left if I moved quickly enough, so wiping him out is always a possibility. Not something that I expect to happen, but if it did this game would become alot more interesting with 1 dead neighbour and 1 weakened neighbour.
