Commas and/or other symbols don't cause the game to crash, do they? I seem to remember this being an issue at some point in PB7. I try to let that be all I remember about PB7... Also, if that's right, maybe someone could double check with Sisu, given his civ's name, just in case.
Also, other lurkers who may want units named, keep posting. Right now Cornflakes is due up, then Commodore. Probably, though, Com you won't get a unit named until we win a low odds battle.

Xenu, for future reference, I just tried logging in and was blocked by suttree. Just trying to keep track of that in case the timer is running down one of these days.
Xenu, you can go back in and do a full report. Basically, Brick Hur is a beast and finished up the barb invasion and is now 7/8xp. We discovered Kuro's borders, got graphs on Azza (swapped to William LP now) and I figured out how to get Sailing in next turn in time to start our Galley. We're running 50% this turn (no losses due to rounding, I checked) and will run 100% next turn as well as swapping from a grass mine to a shitty coast tile at Happy Face. Oh well. I put some basic plans on our micro sheet, so check that out.
Picture dump, then I'm off to DC for the weekend.
Suttree is doing very well, and his power is rising. You should go back in and post a full set of graphs if you have time.
There's a new turn to play. Any news from the last turn before I play? I just tried to connect but suttree is in game and I can't connect with him. Also, looks like we're about to get some rough weather, so I may not get to play at all if things go all washington/mongolia here. There is plenty of time on the clock, but I'd like to play tonight since I'm not likely to see 49 come around until tomorrow.
I moved the workers and microed the cities. I started ML on a settler this turn and gave the deer to HF so it would grow this turn. Next turn ML swaps to a lighthouse and grows, then resumes on mines after. The workers followed the plan I had laid out.
Let's chat before moving scouting units. I'll check back in thread later tonight.
I've been busy this weekend, so short catchup reports first before comments about the current situation.
T67 - Not much of note so you get a wide view. I followed the micro notes even though I had some disagreement with what you planned for the new worker -- instead of finishing the farm with the other two workers he should have stayed north and finished the cottage to get the spare commerce we needed (if I'm remembering it right now), instead of working the coast. Then finish the mine, then road the deer tile -- Tyler is unhealthy again at size 2. Until that city gets a granary it's going to be a city of squalor. It doesn't matter much though, finishing the rice farm is +1 food, connecting the deer is +1 health for Tyler, it's a wash in terms of growth for the moment.
Anyway, overview shot, not a lot going on T67.

I'll post the next update in a few mintues, have to step away for a bit.

T68 - OK, here's our territory map. Not a lot going on, just followed the worker micro.
Tyler is size 2 and unhealthy, working a grass farm and a (dry) rice farm. Happy Face started a galley, Mister Love is close to finishing its work boat. What is the plan for that work boat anyway? Another exploration unit? So far we haven't seen seafood at the stone site, although we have 3 tiles inside the BFC to uncover there. Speaking of that area,
We've made contact with Kuro, which it turns out was inevitable. He has a galley on the tile we're on in this screenshot. He was already there and I moved the work boat on top of his galley, but he hadn't played yet at the time. I assume our boat is still there. If not, maybe he has Chosen Unwisely™. It looks like we'll have competition to the island areas as both WilliamLP and Kuro are in close proximity. So we have tight quarters in our own spit of land and direct competition for the islands we've uncovered so far. Great.
That brings me to the rant part of today's broadcast. It's 68 turns into the game now, I'm probably allowed to whine about the map now right? I've come to the conclusion (rightly or wrongly) that we will need to attack Sisu fairly early in the game. If we don't he will very likely get way ahead of us in tech, so that by the time we want to kill him with fire (cataphracts) it may be too late. He is going to get ahead of us in research if he plays competently, there's no real way around it. Have a look at the map:
I love how the river south of his capital winds and bends to provide maximum commerce bonus, those are quick, cheap advantages to a FIN leader (Sisu is IND/FIN). He also has a nice stretch of river easily in his sphere of control to the east, and then another one to the southeast that is probably also his. FIN is already a research advantage, but pairing it with a lot of river tiles for cottage spam is an even greater edge. We're going to be behind him in technology.
Back to attacking him. We'll obviously target Guilds for cataphracts as early as we possibly can, but by the time we can do that Sisu will probably already have Engineering because he will know he has to with us as his nearest neighbor. So it will be an expensive attack, cataphracts into probably a lot of pikemen, which will be an all in committment by us. If it fails we're probably hosed for this game because we need land and apparently we're going to have a short draw in that department. I know 'phracts are uber and can kill pikes, but I expect we're going to have a production deficit to make up when it comes to preparing for the war. Comparing the land we can settle to the land Sisu has available, I think he has more food and more production available than we do, and I don't think it's close. If we allow him to build his cities up and get his FIN cottages growing we're going to be in trouble.
So to prevent that from happening we should consider researching HBR and Archery and have at him sooner, before he will expect to be attacked, and before he is prepared to defend against what is surely an inevitable attack when we get to Guilds. We need to take some of his land or we're going to be doomed in the long run against his FIN economy. He just built the oracle and I think he took Metal Casting. As an IND leader it would be pretty obvious to do that, and his fourth city is coastal, indicating a plan to build a forge and then Colossus. There is a missing forest along the coast east of his capital in what looks like a great place to chop out the Colossus, or even slow build it since he isn't in a race for it, that's why I think that's where his fourth city is. That would fit an oracle --> Colossus plan. Oh, and as for where he built the oracle, that would be in the spot I previously marked as "omfg - I CAN HAZ CITY" on the map. I think he built the city right where I marked the tile, because it's a stupidly good location, and there are 4 forests missing from around that tile's BFC. (Comparisonshots).
So that's enough for now. The summary version of all this is a chat I had with Commodore earlier when he asked me if I was going to build the oracle.
Commodore: So, taking Oracle? Xenu: obviously not Xenu: looks to have been built in sisu's second city, which is the OMFGhax site south of their capital Xenu: judging by missing forests anyway Xenu: and presumably they took MC (IND/FIN anyone?) and will build the colossus at their leisure where i presume their 4th city is, on the coast (judging again by a missing forest) Xenu: they've sealed off a ton of land to the south. i haven't written last turn's report but i'm about to go into full map whining mode Xenu: capital good....otherwise...no food, and what food we have is all duplicate resources, crammed on a nub of land above the jungle belt Xenu: i mean how do we have 3 cows, 3 rices, and no corn/wheat anywhere nearby? and one fish off to the east, everything else is clams Xenu: unless we're supposed to go north from our start or something...with a neighbor so close to the south on the other side of the jungle it's going to be hard to properly challenge them for that land. we're going to have to kill sisu to be relevant in this game Xenu: and we can't wait too long to do that or he'll be way ahead in tech. FIN, going to have colossus/FIN coast, a ton of land available to settle, and oh yeah, like 4 river valleys for instant FIN cottage success...we're going to be behind by the time we get to Guilds Xenu: he'll definitely have Engineering by then, unless we shake it up earlier than 'phracts. I think we should move Archery and HBR ahead in our tech planning.
So...'mids for police state! HA rush? Anyone? Too bad we won't be ready to do it while he's focusing on building the Colossus, but we don't have enough of a supply base to do it yet anyway. We need to settle the remaining viable spots around our starting area before we attack anyway, we'll need to build and whip quite a few horse archers to make an attack work.
Boldly, what is your view on this? I don't think my assumption that we'll be outresearched is unfounded. Our GNP is currently terrible if you subtract out the 16 culture per turn we're getting from SH in our capital. Bottom 3 type numbers. We need cottages down and in use immediately wherever we can. We'll need them even if we do run a representation/specialist economy, if we even do land the 'mids. If we don't land it...yeah. Cottages. Then war.
Edit: Demographics:
Yeah, our GNP is 40 - 16 free culture from SH in capital (then -4 more for 4 monuments...-20 total!) leaving 20 for GNP. And some of that is palace culture too. Our economy is terrible. COTTAGES!!!

Oh, I didn't mention anything about the scouting units. I think we need to have our sentry chariot (carefully!) scout to the west toward WilliamLP. We need to find if there are any good sites there we can profitably grab that aren't completely choked by jungle. Either that or go SW and find where Oxy and Azza and whoever else came from. I think someone would have started to the west of Sisu somewhere down there. I'm guessing Oxy but that's out of the air...maybe we met his scout somewhere that would give me that idea? I don't remember now.
I think the work boat should go NE/?? next to explore that landmass. I'm going to guess it's a smallish island but I haven't done flying camera work to check. It probably doesn't matter, it looks like we won't be settling that island anyway. Unless you're still gunning for circumnavigation that boat needs to find us islands we can settle, so something closer to the stone. Send him generally NE and back east would be my vote. We'd have to declare war on Kuro to pass through anyway, and we've already seen his galley. Would seem senseless to get our work boat killed that way.
I don't have a good feel for what to do with the other chariots, other than keeping them spread fairly centrally throughout our culture so that we can have at least a pair of them help defend anywhere that Sisu or a barbarian may wander into our borders. I'm feeling pretty uneasy about having only chariots and warriors right now. I want Archery soon, having copper way over on that island and not able to connect it for quite a while is a real pisser for our defenses. Chariots suck at defense enough and having jungle that we can't clear out pressing up to our front cities means a spear attack would be devastating to us. I'll have to think about the ordering of our upcoming techs, but we can't get to either archers OR horse archers soon enough for my comfort. Anyway if you have a better idea of what to do with the chariots other than dispersing them around our land for zone defense, let me know.

We're holding up the turn so I went ahead with the scouting movements.
Demographics:
Really quick notes, Suttree us up to 5 cities and is spending 1 EP per turn against us. We lost graphs this turn as a result, we'll get them back next turn. Annoying. Sisu is either researching (or just finished?) Writing or Masonry, if you want to check for that. I'm assuming Writing because I don't think he has another city ready yet to chop in the 'mids. Then again, if he does, he's going to be way behind in something...either workers, settlers, or military.
I've moved the chariot by Tyler SE to go make contact with Sisu's 4th city, before he gets the Colossus chopped in there and pushes out the borders. There is a barb warrior 2 tile NW of our sentry chariot in the west, just outside our visibility beyond a forest. I say we chase him since we probably want to keep going that direction anyway. I moved the new work boat 2 tiles north since it seems like he should go to the area where we're going to build the new city. I didn't know what else to do with him. The capital will pop borders again in a few turns to uncover several fogged tiles north and to the west, so that's less scouting work for our galley to do when it takes the settler over to stone.
That's all for now, I haven't moved any units on the new turn.
