Here's the dotmap for reference:
The gold city is #4, and would go where the fogged dot is, since we uncovered that corn over there. It's hard to tell, but the gold is 2S of the cow.

The other thing we need to figure out is what we want to do with our scout. Well, we want the scout to scout, obviously (Black Sword), but in which direction?
The plan had been to circle north of the Gladiator's capital, but now I'm not so sure. I kind of want to unfog all that land between us, especially now that the Copper has shown up nearby. If there is some food near the copper and wines, we may need to prioritize a city in that area. So now I'm thinking maybe sending the scout through that fog, and then just keep heading south to see if there is anyone below us. The downside is that would mean backtracking over some land that we've already uncovered, so it might not be the most efficient choice. What do you guys think?

W-Sw? Then circle back north and east... unfogging the copper is a good plan as I'm not sure about the dotmap just yet.

How about moving city 1 on the dotmap 1S? We'd still get the corn shared. Or is this a horrible suggestion?
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

Well, I did finish the turn yesterday.
I ended up going W-NW with the scout, because moving SW would have put Moiraine on unforested flat ground.

Yeah, I agree that's one of our better options. My biggest hesitation is that we can't move out of our borders and settle in the same turn. So, we would probably need to complete a quechua before the settler, which puts a significant delay on our second city. Now, that might be the best option, but I want to test things out a bit first. I finally updated the sandbox, so I'm going to try a few different options:
1. Use the scout to fog-bust and prevent any barb animals from appearing where they could threaten the settler. I'm not sure yet if this is possible.
2. Settle the "2" spot first, since we can move out of our borders and settle the same turn. This city could be settled the same turn as the original "1" site, but seems significantly weaker at first glance. Then we could finish the Quechua and settle the copper city next.
3. Switch to a quechua this turn and use the chop to finish it. Maybe with whipping, the city won't be delayed by too much?
4. Keep the same plan through T31, and revise the dotmap to include a different city that picks up the copper.
Any other options I'm missing? I'm going to play out a few tests now and then play tonight (probably in the next 4 hours). Here's a current overview of our neighborhood in case anyone wants to play around with different dotmaps or brainstorm other options.
Oh, and here's the latest sandbox save.

Quick update on my testing so far. I think we can protect the settler using Moiraine. It would look something like this:
If this works, this is probably the best option for bringing copper into our borders with the least delay on our next city. Of course, this blows up in our face if Moiraine actually happens to uncover an animal down there Put this down for high-risk, high-reward.

Chopping the quechua now only delays the city one turn. I think that's a lot better than risking sending the settler without an escort. There are some things I don't like about the site 1S, but it would probably be really dumb to settle the original site and miss out on the copper by one tile. Here's the test save through T35:
I'm going to play the turn now. I'll switch our build to the Quechua.

Turn 26:
As I mentioned, I switched over to a Quechua so we have a unit to cover our settler. It'll get chopped out on T31, with city 2 settled on T33. I'll whip the workboat on T32. Then I think just chop out a couple more workers, and then more settlers. Once Pottery comes in we can start cottaging and building granaries, so that will be pretty important. But we have no research capability right now, or in the long-term for that matter.

A little bit of C&D.
Eagles and Condors are the team with the pop 4 capital.
GG, Dinosaurs, EggHeads, Afriques, and Orgy have size 3 caps.
Maga and Cannibal Ponies are at size 2 with us. So are the Care Bears, but they grew to size 3 before whipping this turn. That was the first whip of the game.
Our demos are pretty poor and I don't anticipate them improving for awhile. We'll be getting all our production from chops (and to a lesser extent, whips), so hopefully we don't fall too far behind.

Turn 27:
Caledorn played this turn for us. Our quechua completed and will start heading south to guard that city. Moiraine uncovered more land around that western copper, and it's not looking likely that there will be any food there.
As for c&d, score increases indicate that Maga grew to size 3, while Cannibal Ponies, EggHeads and Gladiators all finished techs. There were 12k new soldier points, so one of those techs was probably BW. I had that the Ponies just finished a tech two turns ago, Gladiator's last tech was three turns ago, and EggHeads were 7 turns ago. I must be off here somehow, because that doesn't make any sense. I'll see if I can sit down and take a closer look later.
Edit: Huh, I don't know why two of those pictures are really small and the last one is really huge. Sorry about that
