Wow, Care Bears just settled their 4th city on T41 T42. All 4 cities are size 1. Nobody else has 3 cities, and Orgy doesn't even have 2.

Turn 42:
Yep, Orgy definitely got Stonehenge. Also, we won our first fight flawlessly! Moiraine will end up on that hill to our north next turn, and then will continue in that direction looking for a land passage west. Not too much else going on this turn.
When can you finish your first spear? And do Quetchas auto-upgrade to spears in the build queue? If you go for archery when do you get your first archer? I hate to say it but you might be better building a load of Quetchas and piling on any chariots that turn up...

Well, we need a border pop before we can mine the copper. Pottery comes in T45 and we'll immediately 1-turn the Terrace in Silent Neighbor. That'll get us our border expansion on T51. We could stack workers for the copper to be mined and roaded by T52. If we go for Hunting after Pottery, I'm sure we could micro things out so that a spear will complete on T53, but really all we need is a couple hammers into a spear to open the option of whipping it out if necessary.
Since Quechuas are our UU, we can continue building them even after researching Hunting, so I'm 99% sure that any quechuas in production would not auto-upgrade to spears. I'm not sure how long Archery will take us, but I did take a look at the research screen and Hunting is 4 turns at 100%, and AH is 9 turns at 100%. I imagine Archery would be somewhere around 5 or 6 turns? So, if we go for Hunting after Pottery, we'll get that on T50 (after saving gold for one turn), and then Archery maybe around T56? Writing it out like this, the security that comes with Hunting might be worthwhile for a short delay on AH, especially since it'll provide a research bonus. But then I don't think we'd need Archery on top of it. Axes + Spears should be enough to keep us safe from anything the Gladiators can throw at us for now. Until then, we can juggle Quechuas to try to keep our cities safe from any potential Roman invasion. They start with the combat promotion and get +25% bonus for sitting in cities, so 2 quechuas should be able to hold off a single chariot. You can road the copper before the border pops, so if you had four workers (!) and did a bit of overflow magic you could get a spear eot51. But that's probably unnecessary... Anyway with those timings and the ability to build Quetchas for MP I wouldn't bother with archery until you want horse archers or longbows. There are economic techs out there for the teching!

Yeah, I hope that ends up being unnecessary. It's possible but probably not ideal to get a fourth worker out by then. Plus, I want to use two workers to improve the new city (one to chop out a granary, the other to improve the corn), and the third worker to cottage a river tile or two for Server Problems.
I agree with you that Archery will be unnecessary once we have access to axes and spears. We should be able to defend against pretty much anything for awhile once we have those. I realized that we could switch the mine tile to a 1-0-2 coast tile in Server Problems to finish Pottery this turn instead of next turn, so I went ahead and did that. Full turn report is coming shortly.
Sorry I haven't gotten to the T43 report yet, but T44 just started, and I need some advice.
That bear just had to show up there. This turn I am supposed to move one of the workers to where the quechua is to road the tile. I need to move the worker this turn if I want the road network ready the same turn I settle city 3 (where the bear currently is). I definitely don't think it's worth it to risk the worker, so I'll just have him stay there and finish the forest chop. The hammers are all going into overflow which should still allow me to 1-turn the granary next turn. But do we want to risk the quechua by leaving him in the forest? I ran some tests, with the following results. Quechua dies 7/20 times (35%) Quechua wins 12/20 times (60%) (twice the quechua won flawlessly, 10%) Bear doesn't attack 1/20 times (5%) If he wins, the bear is cleared out and we're free to settle the city without any delay. If he loses, or if we move him out of the way, then we don't really have any notion of when we might be able to settle the city, so the settler will just be hanging out. I guess we could move the location 1W so it's next to the cows and gold. That makes it a little safer from the bear because we could move the quechua west and road the cow this turn, allowing the settler to found our next city on the same turn that it moves outside of our borders.
We've been riddled with bad luck in this game. Totally quiet aggressive Roman neighbours with a chariot on the rampage, and now a bear that seriously hinder us. I'm tempted to say defy the Gods, and challenge the RNG to spite us even more..
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"
If you move the Quetcha ne this turn there is a good chance the bear goes away (5/8 - I see three moves that hurt you). Then you move him sw again before you risk putting the settler on the forest...
