Just to help me think about it (and please don't rely on my maths):
| Battle | Multipliers | Strength | |
Shock Praet vs Axe | 8 * 1.35 | 10.8
CR II Praet | 8 * 1.45 | 11.6 | |
Axe (combat I) vs Praet | 5 * 1.6 | 8.0
CI Axe on hill/Shock Axe | 5 * 1.85 | 9.25
Fortified CI Axe on hill | 5 * 2.1 | 10.5
Fortified CI Axe in Bad Economy | 5 * 2.05 | 10.25
Fortified shock Axe in Bad Economy | 5 * 2.3 | 11.5 |
This is probably premature, but it makes me think you want to be getting 3XP axes from a barracks and then getting shock via barbs. Once they have shock send them to fortify in BE and start again...
Are you still doing C&D for GG? Do you know if they've got barracks and will you track how many Praets get built?

Proposed message to BowAivo:
Quote: Hi guys,
Thanks for accepting Open Borders. Unrestricted right of passage sounds good to us. Thanks for the heads up about possible barbs to the west. We'll be careful with our explorations out that way. We agree about notifying each other when we meet other teams. Good idea!
Sorry we can't help locate resources. The pace of this game is so much faster than the ISDG, we haven't been doing nearly as much demo-hacking. We've also noticed the inland snaky seas. We settled our capital on the coast of one, and so did the gladiators. If you have found one but haven't unfogged the far coast, that might be a good place to look for another team.
Cheers,
Blame Caledorn

Looks good, Yossarian. I should be able to resume the diplo around the end of next week when we're done settling in
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

I haven't been keeping up with c & d against gg, but I've been grabbing frequent power graphs, so I should be able to catch up now. Our power is well ahead of theirs currently, but that can quickly change. They actually finished two whips in one turn that might have been barracks.
I think I'm going about things all wrong in our cities. I put a bunch of overflow into a library in Silent Neighbor, with the intention of whipping it then growing onto scientists. But this is a production city. The overflow should have gone into a barracks. We'll finish our second axe out of Bad Econ next turn. Should we build a barracks there? I don't think it will be dedicated to military, but it is near our front lines. With the settlement of Serdoa's Chariot next turn, though, that city will become the most vulnerable to attack.

Turn 65
Scouting continues. Our costs are really hurting us. Fin trait sure would be nice right about now...

In the south, our settler is in place to settle Serdoa's Chariot next turn. The forest went into an axe, which will finish next turn. In the north, I moved our axe to force the next barb onto flat ground. Once the worker finishes in Server Problems, we can grow to size 5, then we should probably chop out a settler for the city that can help grow it's cottages. In the west, we put a chop into the terrace. Our FP cottage will be done in time for growth.

Ok, all caught up!
We're still snooping around GG's land. They're only four turns away from IW now. I whipped out the Library in Silent Neighbor, like I had mentioned. I think I will still grow onto scientists. We really need the research boost. Let me know if this is a dumb idea. The axe finished in bad econ, so I started a Library there. With the gold and tons of flatland, I guess this will be a commerce city.

And I took a quick look at GG's power graph. It does look like they've gotten a pair of 3k soldier increases, which were likely their cheap barracks.

I'll guess that power jump of 5 is a axe to deal with siuan if he gets too close.
can you post lookout Quetchas to let you know when and where gg plan to come from? fingers crossed the eastern neighbour has settled right up on them...
You're right - the library in silent neighbours is premature, I'm sure it'll be handy later but right now a settler or three axes would have been better... at least it can grow cottages for bad economy (which eventually might get an academy).
