[SPOILERS]The Tyrant realizes that once the world burns it gets really boring....

T229 - Seven days later and we have a new turn. Someone nailed it before, give people an 8.333333333333 day turn timer, it'll take most of it to get a turn played. Retep sat on the turn and played last for no discernible purpose other than to play last, I suppose. Oooookay fearless leader! Look, if he's tired of playing this game can we just call it off please? In the meantime....

William gobbled a pair of Kuro's cities while marching his stack up to Kuro's current capital. I expect next turn Kuro will either have a new capital or will be dead completely, depending on how many galleons William has off Kuro's eastern coast. Hopefully Kuro will be completely dead and rid of this game to focus on the reporting of Bunbunmaru or whatever it is in PB16. Also noted in the picture is an apparent culture bomb where William grabbed a few tiles back from Molach. I had been puzzling over that since I saw it in Civstats yesterday or whenever it was, a bomb is the most obvious explanation given that there's no war involved. I have a worker riding William's excellent rail network to investigate further, he'll give me visibility on the new border next turn. Elsewhere in my empire I got the first few bad rolls on missionary religion spreads, striking twice with the same religion. Clearly Confucianism is not the one true Path to enlightenment. Good thing we have four others to choose from. banghead Anyway, not a huge setback, just wasted hammers. It'll only delay getting back to military builds, which will be helpful sooner rather than later I'm sure.

A cautionary note: Retep has five galleons stationed outside his Parthenon/UoS/Moai city that could cause a lot of trouble in the north. As always we need more military but we're busy cranking out religious buildings like there's no tomorrow. So if we get invaded by the sea and carved up soon it won't be from a lack of attention, it will be from a lack of action. Basically once you've gone down the road of a cultural victory you're toast if one of the main contenders attacks you anyway. But we'll have Nationalism starting next turn and can start drafting as soon as two turns from now if we have to. Not that that would be in time to save our capital if he attacked us but I don't think we can pump sufficient defense and get these cathedrals/temples up at the same time. And if we're not half assing the CV attempt we have to push the infrastructure and then worry about defending. If we get attacked in the meantime, well it wasn't going to work anyway.

I tried this a while back, but this time it's with a bit more effort:

Maybe there's something in the offer that's appealing enough for Suttree to accept it. I really only care about the defensive pact, and not because I think Suttree would actually fight an aggressor (he wouldn't), but it would have at least some kind of minimal impact on an aggressor in breaking existing deals. That would only apply to Retep, as Suttree has no deals with William, but it doesn't hurt to at least try cultivating friends when doing a stupid cultural victory (death) attempt. I'll take a defensive pact with anyone not named Retep if I get the opportunity, just to make him attacking us less palatable if possible. It won't save us any cities if he attacks but whatever. He'll at least nominally be at war with some people.

I didn't analyze techs but if anyone wants to, here ya go.

If Kuro looks like he's about to die next turn maybe I'll ask him to loan me some cash. lol

I can't remember the last time I posted a map of the Pacific Islands, so here's an update of the progress colonial powers are making subduing isolated islanders. I can proudly announce we're the fourth best colonial overlords in existence! I expect the colony will send back icy core samples for future study, or maybe some ice cubes for our sweet tea.

Demographics:

Wetbandit kicked off his golden age, vaulting past us in MFG and probably grabbing top GNP for a while. He also swapped five civics, possibly so he can starve out some more great people.

I logged back in to get a picture of the new south Pacific island of Banana Pudding because I vaguely remember promising a picture a while ago:

Borders pop in 3 turns, the galley has been sent home to pick up a chariot for garrison since the local barbarians so rudely dispatched the axe I sent all the way out here with the settler. It should be in place in about...15 turns or so. lol We'll see if anyone has any reason to kill the city before that, like garrison will matter anyway. In retrospect we probably should have just settled on the island where Cherokee is and battled the barbarians for the copper but meh.

How many units do we have defending the capital? You know, just in case...

I dunno, surely not enough. Probably however many you packed in there ages ago. I have the rifles that our HE city builds going that way now. Not that infantry won't kill them all the same.

Looks like we started a food fight in the lurker thread, since people are posting and all. bang And maybe we stirred up some conversation in the other players' threads, since a few people have actually posted now.

Boldly, I assume you don't want to change course, right? As doomed and pointless as our CV attempt is, I don't see any reason to go militaristic and try to smite anyone, do you? For the reasons we both mentioned in the tech thread, as well as that would probably make the turns take even longer to play if I weren't to half-ass a war effort....Better to keep spreading cultural cheer and partially keep trying to win the game, right?

Yeah. Culture victory. If we were going to spike a contender's tires, we would have done that when our Phracts were reasonably advanced.

T230 - Kuro dies next turn.

Better luck in PB16. You can see what's left of Kuro's forces, not much. From last turn William's power is down by 7,000. Kuro's is down by 184,000. He's just feeding XP at this point. I would have thought Kuro would have deleted the workers huddled in his second remaining city by now but I guess not. Maybe he'll delete them next turn before he dies, for decorum's sake. Or not. I offered him a final map swap with a message of farewell.

In other non diplo diplo news, Oxy wished us good luck on our CV attempt.

Lest anyone think the recent conversation in the tech thread led him to discover our plans all of a sudden, keep in mind he'd have had to build the missionary first, or would have had to have been sitting on one for some reason for it to be available to enter our borders this turn. Anyway, our spread of Confucianism is sped up by one city, thanks Oxy. We have just a few more cities to get religions spread around to now so that we'll have a minimum of nine cities of each religion. Cathedral building is still underway, I think we have four or five done by now, maybe it's more. As cities come off temple duty up to the required number they'll begin building catapults en masse up until the point where we've finished the techs I think we need. Then science will switch off and cities will be more subject to the whip than they have been up to now. A golden age would be really, really nice for civic swaps but it isn't in the cards. We'll have to eat several turns of anarchy to set things up for the victory death push.

Oh, as you can see from the event log above, Suttree declined my offer of OBs, MPP, and a world map swap and instead signed a MPP with Retep. OK. twirl Pledge your allegiance to the overlord of your choosing. That pact won't do anything for him since I'm not declaring on him anyway. I would have thought he would embrace the overture of peace we've consistently been sending, but maybe he has some malice yet in store for us. Revenge is a powerful motivator, after all. It would be kinda funny if this CV attempt got down the runway, took off, had a safe flight, then crashed on landing because LOLSut of all neighbors decided to kill us. That seems like more of a job for someone who can win the game, but we'll see what happens. Everyone plays for their own reasons to have the fun they can.

Don't these city builds look like I'm begging to be attacked? lol Hurry up and finish your damn temples, plebs! I'm under cultural pressure at Hell Below, where I've whipped a Jewish monastery for a +7 culture per turn infusion. I'll put the overflow into a temple and whip that when I'm able to. I'm in danger of losing a very productive town tile on the border with WilliamLP. I should be able to hold it with the additional 13 cpt in Hell Below and the 4th ring culture of What We Have. I would think I should also be able to begin pushing some of William's madrassa culture back as well, but I may end up having to put a spare cathedral in the city. Further north I'm going to reach the 500 level of culture in I Burn, which will activate my latent culture on the city square tile of my former island city to the east. That will immediately put the city at risk of revolt, which is nice. If, for some reason, I can flip that city back to my control I could activate a lot more of my latent culture, exposing more cities to revolt. It's the cultural M.D. Device. Yay. popcorn Of course, if I flip cities over there Retep will just declare war and take them back...so...it's just a fun minigame really.

Techs - Wetbandit can research Flight now.

Demographics, with Wetbandit in golden age.

Retep's power is increasing rapidly. We may well get whacked before we get this CV attempt off the runway, but whatever. Then we'd go full military and kill all the English we could and slow him down any way possible. Which wouldn't be much if Suttree piled in from the rear, but thems the breaks.

You can't flip cities from the player who conquered the city from you.

Oh well, it can damn sure go into revolt, though, and be useless to Retep. And I guess I should have known that I couldn't take it back that way, since I kept Blue Fish in frequent revolt after Brick took it from me in PB8.
