Hard to beat the Automated Teller start. Although that is a lot of techs he needs.

If Jowy really works a desert hill gold mine in the first thirty turns he really hurt him self with his move.

I like how hut map pops are actually being useful here smile

@sut: No clue. Might just be a newbie with pizzazz.

Cyneheard (thoughtful, rusty) as Mehmed (Org,Exp) of Egypt (Agri/Wheel, War Chariot, Obelisk)
This is a solid player with a solid leader of a solid civ. Sounds about right. Mehmed isn't the roaring REXy beast he once was, but he is solid and Egypt won't slow him down at all. War chariots are still premier early units and the obelisk might be handy if Cyneheard wants to try a Theology bulb for a precious religion later on. I'm betting he does well, although I don't predict any breakout performance. But he might surprise.
Dhalphir (eager, learning) as Hayuna Cupac (Ind, Fin) of England (Fish/Mine, Redcoat, Stock Exchange)
Dhalphir's a Starcraftian man with admirable try-hard tendencies and a fair learning hand, helped here by a good solid combo. Ind, as mentioned above, has some real power and Fin on a wet map with synergistic Stock Exchanges is delightful, should he make it that far. And should he make it a little farther, nothing at all wrong with that unique unit, either. I like this combo's power. Although I'll go to my grave still swearing HC is danged dull.
dtay (bright, enterprising) as Mao (Exp, Pro) of Ethiopia (Hunt/Mine, Oromo, Stele)
[Image: Stele-Field-of-Aksum-Ethiopia-300x202.jpg]
Little Dtay is all growed up, folks. He's not yet finished a game here but he's already shown an impressive performance in PB13 (Liberalism Achievement: Unlocked) and is in a tight battle for the win in PBEM 53 (check it out, they're reporting now!). He's got a decent little combo here to compete with, and trust me he will be competing. Ethiopia's techs are top-flight here in RBmod, and the Oromo will have a nice long lifetime. Steles are...two turns less on your borders popping. Which is, yep, about as useful as it sounds. Still, can't all be winners.
Plako (dodged, determinator) as Louis (Cre, Ind) of France (Agri/Wheel, Musketeer, Salon)
Poor Plako got a repeat leader...now with baked-in synergy! Cheap Salons. Yeah. I somehow suspect that "being Plako" will be more important that any other traits here. Louis is dull as dust but nothing too weak, musketeers are nice, and the salon is actually worth something. But Plako would be standing on the medal stand no matter what combo he was driving.

Who is going for Meditation besides those two?

Getting Bronze and saving 16 turns of early research for free would be simply massive. It would mean I could be many turns ahead on a run for HBR or snowballing with earlier Pottery. I think just for this chance it makes sense to get Mining first even not going directly to Bronze afterwards. (Because I think I'd rather start farming the corn as soon as possible and concede to learning where the copper is later than otherwise.)

Going by demos last turn, I think most people have land starts. The average land tiles per player was over 8. I'm really curious what this map looks like in the big picture, because there mysteriously must be quite a lot of water somewhere. But if cities aren't on the coast, where is it?

Bit of weed here:

(pic spoilered for lurker thread length)

Going mining first instead of Agriculture? That's putting off your wheat farm, say 8 turns just for a *chance* of popping Bronze working... not a good trade.

Also, having some capitals coastal and others not should be old hat by now... I hope too many players weren't expecting homogeneous capitals!

Edit: except that the worker will probably improve pig first... so probably less than 3 turns delay. Not so bad, I guess.

Does the lurker civ have vision on everyone's tech choices yet?

Xenu had a crazy theory that this is actually Lord Parkin; he knew that civstats wouldn't work for 34 people and so he signed up to become a living nightmare of double moves and clock game, undetectable.

Can confirm; is me.
