So... I'm guessing there's two questions on everyone's mind right now - Why are you playing a pitboss (hate) with Commodore (lots of negativity in previous threads) and where's Noble?

I'll answer the second question first - I asked him to team and he declined. He's not interested in a pitboss (fair) and is holding out for a Tides of War game (also fair.) If I only had time for one game right now, I probably would have declined to play as well, since I still hate pitboss, I would like to test a ToW game as well and I definitely prefer teaming with Noble to not. Fortunately, I'm full of nothing but free time at the moment so if a ToW game happens and Noble still wants to team with me, I can do both.

The second question really is answered by the first - I've got lots of time. I buried the hatchet with Commodore a while ago and while I still find some of his antics grating, I respect the approach he took to apologizing for his smurfing in PB16. Beyond that, the game was an invitational, and while I don't really know a lot of the players, I figured it was relatively small and everyone seemed within a standard deviation of my skill level, so I won't be embarrassed or a favorite for the game, so it should be low-stress.

I'll talk more about my specific strategies in the game and so on after I post the settings/etc which were hashed out via the invitation. But right now - I'm really interested in picking up some teammates/dedlurkers because this thread will get boring as hell without them and I enjoy playing Civ4 with other people on the same team a lot more than I enjoy playing solo. So if you're interested in joining the team - don't be shy! I promise to entertain longer than I did in PB16 because I'm going in with a very different attitude/goals/etc. Don't get me wrong - we'll be playing to win - but my expectations are much lower.

Banned Civs: Inca, India, China, France, Sumer, Egypt
Difficulty: Monarch
Speed: Normal
Following game settings turned off: Vassals, TT, Huts, Events
Following units/tactics banned: War Elephants, Spies, Coastal Blockades, Nukes, City Gifting, Diplo Victory
Barbs are on
Map Size: Standard
Map: Whatever, made no sense to me in the conversation. I believe there was something referenced to PB9-esque but I didn't lurk that so no idea.

Other stuff: We see starts before sending in choices, we all start with scouts, AI Diplo... stuff?

Our pick method will be something I've advocated before which is everyone submits 10 Civ/leader choices to Xenu, who is doing the map, and you get your highest rated no duplicate choice. This is because I think Snake Pick is terribly unfair.

Okay, as some may know, I planning on not playing any civ games because I can't afford the time commitment due to a lot of other things taking higher priority in my life right now. I was asked to take part in this invitational, and after originally accepting, decided I simply couldn't afford to do it time-wise. However, I recognize that I can't quit cold turkey. Which brings me here. I figure I have time to partner up. Particularly since Gaspar will play most of the turns. In the past I have tried to dedlurk/help Gaspar and failed. I just always had my own game that eventually drew me off. So this time, I'll have no other games. (After pb13 is over).

So this time I'll be the wind at Gaspar's back, not the spit in his face.

Don't feel like you have to pity dedlurk me, Boldly. While I'd certainly prefer the company and appreciate the value added by your input, you should do whatever will be most fun for you. If nobody decides to show up, well I'll manage to have fun in my echo chamber.
