Quote:Commodore is Ramesses of Rome
Thoth is Hatty of Zulu
Gaspar is Zara of Ottomans
Pindicator is Washington of Carthage
Dtay is Roosevelt of Mali
TBS is Joao of Mongolia
Oxyphenbutazone is Pericles of Maya
Given the quality of the start, I'm assuming mirrored or close to it starts.
Thoth: Got his first pick. An obviously horrible combination that screams "NOOOOB!!!!"
Commodore: Ramses of Rome. Ramses is solid. Fishing/Mining is a bit dodgy for the start I've got but he gets Prats to play with.
If he's close, I may feel the need to Impi choke him.
Gasparbot: Zara of Ottomans. looks like a solid all round combination: Creative/Org is a nice combination. Cheap Libs, Lighouses and Courthouses + free border pops and cheap civics provides a nice balance of early/later boosts. Civ has excellent start techs. UU is a musket with +25% vs Mounted. Decent enough given the mp focus on mounted units. UB is situationaly decent but nothing to get excited about.
Pindicator: Washington of Carthage. Cheap Cothons are decent enough, Numids are iffy. Fishing/Mining. Hmmm, maybe not so mirrored starts after all.
Dtay: Roosevelt of Mali. Oracle slingshot for MC is obvious. I wonder what turn he can do it by? Myst/Mining. Bleah.
Skrims are decent enough as a UU. Mints are nice for an Ind leader.
TBS: Joao of Mongolia. King of the Rex with Keshiks. Hunting/mining would be ok with my starting location, but I like Gers paired with Cha better than Imp. YMMV.
Oxyphenbutazone: Perky of Maya. Easy border pops, cheap libs, unis, GP, ball courts and a resourceless UU. Looks solid on paper for a bulb spree up the Lib line.

Thinking about opening tech path in a vacuum:
AH first looks like a no brainer (so I need to sim out mining/bronze 1st as a comparison). After that, wheel-->pottery works well to generate some early commerce (tested out to ~t42 based on start screenie) but delays Bronze until t42. It does work out well for the worker micro, I get all three food sources improved + 2 roads and second city on t28. Tech pace is also good. But. I get the commerce from riverside plains cottages so there is no increase in foodhammer output beyond the 3 specials.
Scouting + another sim or two should help....
Back of the cigarette pack math says Mining/Bronze gets bronze t21 just as the cap grows to 3 and the Deer camp is done. hmmmm

Game mechanics question:
If I settle in place and settle a city 2 2 2 of the capital, will the city be trade connected to the capital without a road?

Quick run through with Mining/Bronze first:
t28: 2 workers, city 2 founded, 2 warriors. mining, bronze, 2t to wheel. 2 forests chopped, cap size 2 (2nd worker 1 pop whipped on t22). Wheat farmed and Deer camped. Riverside gh mined, 1 worker in position to improve hypothetical food.
AH/wheel/pottery had me with 2 warriors, 1 worker, city 2 founded, 2 roads already in place, 1 worker turn into a cottage, Wheat farmed, deer camped and cows pastured. Horses located and possibly pastured at the expense of 1 1/2 roads. Cap at size 3 preparing to whip a worker while new city works a capital food spec. Can be tweaked a bit yet.
AH first it is. Mining/bronze or wheel/pottery next, then vice versa.

If you mean 3S, then yes, they will be connected.

Thanks Illios.
t0 played.
Looks like an ok 2nd city site 8 8 8 of the capital (shares 2 food resources with capital, ivory, 2nd ring sheep). Not much long term potential, but it'll do if there isn't anything better revealed in the next 27 turns.

Map size is Large, not standard.
New sandbox setup.
AH-->Wheel-->mining--Bronze-->(fishing) pottery
Settler at size 2. Second city founded t26.
If I have capital horses, I'll likely delay the second city in favour of growth and possibly a second worker but I'm not going to sim that until after AH is in (12t).
Now if Oxy would FHFT, I could scout a bit more.
(home sick today so I've got nothing better to do.)
