[SPOILERS] Turning in the widening gyre: Thoth has another go at BTS

T31 played:

3rd city is slated for this lovely cottage country:

Should be settled circa t47 +/- 1 turn. smile

Demos: (with Pin, TBS and dtay still to play)

Oxy has grown his capital to size 4 and is working (non)Awesome Wines. He does not have a trade connection to his second city and is teching something with a single pre-req.
TBS settled his second city after the above screenie.

Commodore's Graphs:

Crop yield:

GNP:

MFG:

From the timing of peoples' score increases/2nd city dates it looks like Pin, Oxy and myself all went for early AH and second city vs BW and second worker.

Commodore has sacrificed early growth for a bit of early commerce. Delaying his 1st worker by 1t has delayed everything else he's done by 1t. He's farmed the cows so he's not picking up AH in the immediate future. 2 workers chopping add an unseen +5 hammers/turn each.

t33 done. Scout is headed Eastwards along the southern strip of crapland. I'm hoping for circumnavigation. :eager:

Pindicator got a tech last turn. Wheel is my guess.

Commodore should finally be finished his settler and should be settling his 2nd city in a turn or two.

I'll net Fall's Fish next turn and grow to size 3 eot 35. jive

I'm still exploring the area to my north-east looking for the food so I can firm up a dotmap before Bronzeworking invalidates it. nod

Bronze due eot 39 with 8 gold left in the kitty.

I seem to be getting 1 more beaker per turn than I can account for (and I'm including the +1 free beaker).
I'll double check tech progress next turn before trying to figure out where I went wrong.

Still haven't figured out why Fall is costing more than testing showed it would. Just gonna have to deal with it.

And Corps aren't banned this game so I may have to endure the tedium of Corp spreading in order to break them with Ikhanda reduced maint costs. (assuming the game lasts that long. And it might.)

t34 done.

Southeast:

Northeast:

Far East:

Demos:

I'll be adding 4 food and -1 commerce t35. Fall grows onto a plains forest eot 35 and Falcon grows onto a grass hill mine eot 36

City sites in the east are still up in the air pending copper location and food in the north.

Commodore settled his second city this turn. Tech last turn for TBS and pop growth to size 2 in Pindicator's 2nd city.

Still havent figured out the mystery beakers.

I generated 17 beakers last turn from commerce. I increased my beaker total towards BW by 22.

Any way I crank the numbers I come up with 21 beakers. huh

Won't complain about "free" beakers though. wink

Possible you got an extra beaker from known-tech bonus?
Reply

My math makes it 0.9 beakers from known tech. which should be zero.

Unless the rounding isn't done until after the last step. contemplate

(17 + 1) * 1.2 * 1.043 = 22.5 =22

I've been thinking about Wonders. smile

Oracle into CoL would be very nice. Cheap temple + Oracle = early shrine. Caste + merchants = Currency bulb. (these two options conflict somewhat).
I'll need Phood + writing. Writing can be done either directly after Pottery/Sailing/(Archery) or after Phood. Writing first allows cheap Creative Libs but I won't want to be spending hammers on Librarys just yet. Phood first gains me an extra 20% known tech bonus and allows me to start Oracle earlier. But it means committing beakers down the monk path earlier. If either Commodore or dtay are going Oracle for MC (which is quite likely) then they can beat me to Oracle due to cheaper tech requirements and fewer hammers needed for Oracle.
So Oracle is risky but the upside is quite nice.
Myst/Med/Phood is ~280 beakers but provides me with no direct benefit other than unlocking Oracle and opening up Monarchy and CoL.
Math is 373b
HBR is 373, Archery is 89.

Timing: BW eot 39. Pottery eot 45. Sailing circa t50. Writing ~57. Cash for 3t then Myst/Med/Phood ~t70. Oracle by t75.
Or HBR by t75, archery by t80.

While the economic benefit of Oracle is potentially very large, it means delaying key military techs. HBR is important not just for HAs but it will also give me the ability to put sentry 1 chariots on my galleys for extra naval visibility. Handy for spotting Commodore's Galley/Prat invasion when it comes. wink

GLH has a lower opportunity cost in terms of tech. I'd just need to divert to masonry. Cheap and allows walls. My options for building GLH are limited atm. Fall is my only port and will be until t55-60. It can be developed into a solid hammer producer to slow build GLH but it only has 3 forests atm and 1 of those is scheduled to come down t45. The two remaining forests could possibly wait until Math to come down. Math + Masonry opens up Construction (522b). Cats would be very useful in the event of a land invasion by prats.

Big pile of Workers and Settlers wonder has no tech requirements past pottery but is aided by Math. It does require earlyish Currency and a pair of offshore cities to help pay for it.

Big pile of HA's wonder may be necessary for defense but the amount of good land to be claimed peacefully makes early aggression expensive.

Getting in the code since I'm interested in learning this stuff:

Code:
iModifier += (GC.getDefineINT("TECH_COST_TOTAL_KNOWN_TEAM_MODIFIER") * iKnownCount) / iPossibleKnownCount;

So (I didn't know this but you apparently do) known tech bonus can never be the full 30% since it includes yourself in the "Possible Known Count". I think this actually rounds down, so we'd have 104 now, if you know 1/7 civs with BW.

Code:
iModifier += (iPossiblePaths - iUnknownPaths) * GC.getDefineINT("TECH_COST_KNOWN_PREREQ_MODIFIER");

The prereq bonus is additive with the known tech bonus, not multiplicative. And neither should include the extra free beaker since it's added as the final step.

So I get:

17 * (124 / 100) + 1 = 22.08
