To add some content to that ... snake pick looks very interesting.

I tried ranking the traits, it felt pretty difficult, here's what I came up with:

Org
Phi
Spi
Fin
Agg

Ind
Cre
Pro
Imp
Cha
Exp

I'm sure lots of people will think I value Phi too much, but I like it. If I had to pick a single leader though, I'd probably go for Org/Agg(Hammurabi?), to give something to help me boss people around in the early game. Of course, first pick has to go for Inca IMO. There's bound to be a Pro leader on the way back and I think Pro/X Inca is way ahead of everything else, start allowing. India is still very good too, but the number of starts it can deal with is probably lower. Commodore's strat of picking civ first and grabbing some synergy on the way back sounds pretty good, I think we'll see a good mix of trait and civs being picked first.

Damn, makes me want to play now. alright

Which do you disagree with?

I'm a little surprised how vociferously opposed to SPI Gawdzak is. It seems to be a fairly popular trait with the majority of players.

Here's the starts after I've done some initial balancing. Feedback would be great. I'm thinking of cutting the number of forests in general down. Starting units need to be changed obviously.

First 5 links are dead for me. What is your mandate? I would be loath to give some starts marble, even in RtR.

Not sure what'd be different about the first 5. Anyone else experiencing that?

Mandate:

Quote:Any interest in rolling a B&S and balancing capitals/strat resources?

Quote:I have no problem rolling a map and balancing the starts. I don't really want to make any promises over the balance of the rest of the map though. I'll roll a few till I get a good one to start with and I'll fix any issues I(or others) see but I won't exhaustively look for them, I'm not sure I want to spend that time. If you're ok with that caveat then I'll make it for you. I'd probably be looking at finishing the map on the weekend but could get starts out earlier.

So, I took that as not rebuilding capitals from scratch but try to buff/nerf them. Seems like that was the case in PB8, 13 etc too. The marble was there already on some starts when I rolled, though I did move it around. I don't see a big problem with it, I tried to make sure the other starts had something to compensate for it.

Just for your sanity sake against too much complains, I'd suggest placing the resources you moved around on actual "possible" tiles from them to appear. Otherwise people will likely complain a lot.

What is on the tile 2S of the settler on the first start?

Did you check for copper/horses? Not sure if you should, based on the guidelines, but just to remember.

The starts seem pretty unbalanced. The gold at the capital sticks out like a sore thumb in #5. I don't know where to begin comparing starts 0 & 1, for example, except to say that 1 is totally hosed by comparison. I know your mandate wasn't to edit heavily, but you need to even out the starting positions some or this is going to be unfun for whoever loses the land lottery at the capital.

There's a three hammer marble plant at 4 that could be unbalancing/too strong. Also, a couple have luxuries, and of uneven strength/accessibility. I see furs, wines, and the aforementioned gold. I wouldn't worry about overall map balancing, but putting some time into the starts will show tremendously in the quality of the game. I know that isn't what you signed on to do, but it will make for a better game.

Or, leave it as is and we can just enjoy a lot of complaints from the players, but it won't be fun for them.
