I don't really see the connection to PB16.

One neighbor super close, other neighbors not so close.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Turn 018
Our scout continues to find lush green nothings in the southeast. Somehow we've tricked THH into thinking we know where we are going and his scout is backtracking a little as well.
The first of many cottages finished, and we've jumped to a lead in food and GNP, the traditional hallmarks of a good game. It's still early, but "Scoreboard". Speaking of scores, Ichabod and Dazed each grabbed a tech last turn, and I'll bet at least one of them was Bronze Working. I suppose I could load up the last turn and compare soldier points but I've got a trip to REI to make so a volcano can eat me whole.
When I hit enter, something magical happened:

You know you're too close when you get graphs on t18.
Well played so far, enjoy the trip!

The crazy thing is we could have had them a few turns earlier if I had been paying attention to the F4 screen around turn 4. You know, right when you expect to be meeting your neighbors

Turn 019
Have a little time before it's time to go and as fate would have it, a save showed up in my inbox.
Notable events this turn. First off, the world is small:
I'm hoping our scout can come back around and scout out the terrain east of our capital. And that must be our marble because it's roughly halfway around the world
Second, Commodore finished something that caused his tile arrangements to change:
It could have finished the turn before last and he manually adjusted the tiles last turn, but more likely is that the tiles were auto-assigned to start with, so the settler has finished at the end of turn 18 and we'll see it shortly. I moved our warrior NE. A little risky, but it'll be worth it if we catch him with his pants down.
And then I ended turn. Gawdzak was sneaky with his copper:
There's another to our southeast on that isthmus our scout crossed a few turns back.
Notice that I also put a turn into a warrior. We'll swap to a settler next turn, but that turn into a warrior is a "just in case".

Turn 020
We survived the wilderness! Revolt to slavery and move the warrior towards Commodore. Just in case he does this...
Turn 021 (Preview)
Obviously Commodore does not want to win this game; he only wishes to troll me because he knows what my reaction will be. He's played with me and lurked games I'm in to know exactly what I'm thinking right now. He knows I went to the Walter Sobchak school of diplomacy:
(I find the censor's choice of words hilarious here )
We have not put any turns yet into the settler. I could immediately start moving to connect that copper and just chop/whip axes at him like there's no tomorrow. So what if we lose? He'll lose too and right now if he's going to play this game with me then I need to teach him (yet again) that it is not a winning game for him.
This is why I have not yet played the turn. I'm hoping for alternative choices.
Edit: in case it isn't clear he planted 2NW of the sheep. I'm trying to figure out how he got the border pop in one turn though. He got Buddhism and planted at the end of last turn (though I want to double check the demos from t20 to make sure of it now). Popping borders takes 6 culture and the religion only gives 5. What am I missing?

Popping borders takes five culture. You always get the culture immediately because research happens before production.
This is why you do not play games with Commodore. It's laughable that anyone thinks he has or ever will change.
