RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Speaker and Sullla

No. First moving team can promote their units after the second moving team attack because it will be a new turn. Second moving team can not promote after the attack because it will be same turn and first moving team gets to go again during next turn.

First moving team gets to attack your unit twice without you ever get a chance promote. Ofcourse, you can cover it with more units or move it to a safe place....

Kristian95 Wrote:wouldn't that be true for both first and second time slots (not being able to promote your unit until the other side has acted) huh

Speaker recently pointed me to this thread. I'm just de-lurking to say hi. I've been reading a few (OK, OK -- several) pages per day and finished all the posts just in time for it to get interesting. Perfect timing! I've been away from Civ for at least five years, so following your progress has been a great learning experience.

It's going to be fun watching you drop the hammer on whichever of your smoke neighbors that choose unwisely. Good luck!

*Waves hi at Reagan. Long time no see! Hope things are good with you. Looks like we may not have too long to wait before Speaker gets to hammer ...

You should ask Jowy if Chamberlain can escort his settler. I'd bet he's really appreciate itsmile

Wow, Reagan! [Image: biggrin.gif] That's a LONG time no see. For the curious, here's a link to a Civ3 Deity succession game we were in together... umm, six years ago. I feel old! lol

Here's a proposed message to send back to Jowy. Ideally, I'd like to send this off tomorrow morning before the turn ends:

Quote:Dear Jowy,

Don't worry, we take no objection on the religion issue. I like to throw out a bunch of different ideas and see what grabs your interest!

We're perfectly fine with the razing of that barb city (Kassite), and we especially appreciate your promise on letting us have a city in that area in the future. Speaking of which, you really should guard your settlers when moving in the wilderness! We could have captured your settler with our Woodsman warrior if we'd been of a mind to do so.

I hope that our refraining from attacking your unguarded settler demonstrates our sincerity and peaceful intentions. smile

I would *LOVE* to get one more 20-turn extension on the NAP with Jowy. If we could get safety up to Turn 115 with Jowy, that would probably give us enough time to cripple Dantski before having to deal with the northern border. Keep your finger crossed on that... (I still suspect there's a conspiracy to attack and kill us from both sides. But you know what they say, hope for the best and plan for the worst.)

We also want to congratulate Nakor on his new religion:

Quote:Dear Nakor and DMOC of Holy Rome,

Hey, we saw the Confucianism message and your new religion. Congratulations! I'm glad that you were able to get the faith that was denied earlier in the game. Good luck getting some of those rathauses going! smile

If we do go to war with Dantski, or he declares on us, we're absolutely going to offer an alliance and partition with Nakor on the other side. We could offer him Timbuktu and Gao, and offer to do most of the heavy lifting in the fighting too. That would get him out to 8 or so cities, and give Nakor a decent chance (well, better chance) against Whosit later on.

See you all tomorrow!

That's not correct: if you play 1st or 2nd then you can promote and then attack within your window if you had enough XP at the start of the turn. The advantage the first mover gets (if I understand shady correctly) is limited to any pending promos from XP gained during the turn.

If any of you lurkers have any experience with python or map script design, could you have a look at my thread here and offer some suggestions. Thanks!

Quote:Dear Sullla,

Thanks! It took quite some time, since we don't have your research capability...

We also found out why Dantski founded Gao. There a worker mining a grasland... you know what that means... but I think that that was our source... time to sharpen some knives? wink

We heard that you settled aggresive towards Dantski... are you having similar thoughts?

Kind regards,
Nakor of HRE

Sounds like all is not as hunky dory as it appears down there. Nakor looks like he could become a good ally.

Oh, I totally agree, Speaker. That message really offers some great possibilities... nod Let me post the stuff from this turn, and then I'll throw out some diplo ideas. I sent off the messages above earlier this morning (and you see that Nakor has already responded), so hopefully we'll hear back from Jowy soon too.

First, pictures from Turn 91 (the one that just ended, where we discovered Monarchy):

Here's the Confucianism popup message, along with Jubal Early demonstrating the Toroidal nature of this map. We can't really see it, but there's clearly an island chain that connects Nakor to Jowy, and Broker to sunrise/regoarrarr.

Jowy founded Argos on the tile where the settler was located. It's in a decent spot, with sheep and stone resources. I think the better spot would have been 1N, however, where it could double up on the deer resource with Sparta. And for the record, neither of Sparta's resources in second ring (rice and deer) have been improved yet!

But hey, Argos is about a million times better than Thebes! lol Thebes finished a monument, and yes, Jowy really did slow-build it 2 shields at a time over 15 turns. What a waste... Even with the monument, there's not a single tile that produces more than 2 food for Thebes. Better get some farms going there!

Here we are revolting to the new civics. I thought it was a nice picture of our core for the readers. thumbsup

Whosit and I were the last ones to play, and he was in the game with me, both of us ending our turns about 15 minutes apart. That meant that we immediately started a new turn...

Turn 92:

The surprise of the turn was Buddhism spreading into Shiloh. huh So now we have a religion in there, which is great, but unfortunately it's not our eventual state religion. On the plus side, however, this means we can build two monasteries in Gettysburg eventually!

Oh, and for whatever reason that message from dsplaisted got stuck on the screen - possibly because when the turn ended Whosit and kalin both jumped back into the game, and Civ4 runs funny when 4 people are all trying to connect to Pitboss - so the durned thing appears in several of these pictures.

Also note that Dantski moved his skirmisher back south last turn. Where he moves it this turn is anyone's guess.

We have view on Krondor now, which seems to be Nakor's military center. This was his #2 city, which was a definite stretch at the time. (Dantski's capital is just to the west of those horses.) This city only has a barracks and monument, not even a granary! From the axes and spears inside, this looks like the holding ground for much of the HRE military force.

First turn we were able to do the step-forward, step-back move with Stuart the chariot against Djenne. Dantski has two spears on defense inside, so either he anticipated a possible horse archer attack, or someone has been advising him in the spoiler thread. Probably the former, since Dantski apparently never updates his thread!

Obviously if we know what units Dantski is building, we can build the appropriate counterunits, so maybe axes will be the key unit against him, should we go to war. Or we could potentially skip Horseback Riding and go straight for Construction too, hmmm... (Spears and axes do very poorly against cats!)

Here's Gettysburg after the civics swap; our capital benefitted more than any other city. I have it working max cottages and max growth, since we're teching upwards right now, not trying to attack anyone. Speaker, do you have any changes to suggest? And what do we build here? The barracks is just sort of a placeholder, we can do an archer or another unit just as easily.

Also, before Speaker has a heart attack about the Ottoman warrior that can capture some of our workers, I'll remind him that we have an NAP with athlete and kalin that specifically mentioned "no worker stealing!" as the main clause. If they break that, they're total scum. lol

I haven't run all the numbers yet, but Jowy is keeping up with us in the Power graph, which reflects that he's building a lot of military. I'd like to try one more time to get a longterm NAP with him (like, 40 turns or so) which would give us time to destroy Dantski in alliance with Nakor. Maybe he'd go for it, who knows; the military buildup is hurting him much more than it is us.

Dantski started running Espionage Points against us, which means we lost visibility on his charts. Nothing we could do about that, since we were in Anarchy last turn! We'll have them back next turn.
