My vote is still for a reload with Espionage on. I don't really care if I get to keep the tech I popped or not.

And I'm in the same boat as GJ. One of the things that soured me from games here in the past was the insistence on turning off what I consider to be one of the most fun parts of the game. Having picked a civ designed to support that (in spite of the nerfs, mostly needed) and then not having EP turned on after all leaves a sour taste.

That leaves 6-4 in favor of continuing with 2 abstain. But Gawdzak had also had this to say:

I tend to agree; I really don't want to lose other players due to no espionage, especially when several players appear to have made their snake pick with Espionage in mind. But it's not my call. Perhaps you want to invite Seven or Krill back to this thread.....?

2 dirty quitters (one of whom is willing to sacrifice a free tech to get a reload), a bunch of "whatever gets us playing, but bonus T0 techs is cheaty", a bunch of "who cares, lets just play Civ4" and pre-winner Thoth who doesn't want to give his medals back (but otherwise seems ok either way).

Someone is going to be pissed off with whatever happens. Except me. Because if this game crashes and burns I'm going to just put it on the back burner whilst I set up PB25.

But I'll be blunt. If any single person had checked the settings on T0 this wouldn't have happened. Every single one of us could have done that. But we didn't, for whatever reason. So frankly, stop bitching and play on or go find a sub, but if anyone dares to quit because Thoth got 3 techs then at least have the balls to say so like JoJo. The Espionage fuck up isn't an acceptable reason - we all made our beds, now we can lay in them.

And now I'm going to leave this thread for a bit. The rest of you can make up your own minds about what to do.

I wouldn't quit because Thoth got 3 techs. Whether he keeps them or not makes not one whit of difference to me staying. I'd actually like him to keep them, but that may be bias because I'd get to keep one too. Well actually, I'm willing to forfeit my tech and let him keep his if that's what it takes to get a reload.

I didn't read JoJo's post as being upset about Thoth's luck either. Edit: Or anyone else, I read it all as poking a bit of fun at him.

I signed up for an EP game, made my picks based on that, and expected to play that. No, I didn't check the settings.
If we had accidentally turned on no city razing, that would be an equal impediment to everyone. I'd support reloading on turn10 there as well.
Same if we had disabled culture victory, even though I've never even attempted a win that way in SP, and can't imagine ever doing it. The fact that someone else might have had their plans spoiled is enough for me to support a reload if even a single other player wanted it.

This is another "correct me if I'm wrong, but..." post. I don't think the players can actually see the game settings, so we don't have a way to look at what the actual game file shows. At least I've never found a way to do so. If everyone had looked at Krill's spreadsheet, they would have seen Espionage on. *shrug* I understand what you're saying, but it's not like it's something big and obvious, and as far as I know you can't check the game settings if you're a player without the Admin password.

I'm fine with a restart (I'd prefer a restart because we did vote on settings and they didn't make it into the game), but I also won't quit if we play on, regardless of Thoth's techs. It just irks my sense of fairness to restart AND give him 3 extra starting techs.
