What is acceptable lurker behaviour?

You tell me smile Are you at a disadvantage against the 3 teams with 4 players in RBP3?

lol

On topic though I agree with Imhotep. If a player makes a mistake then it is their fault and unless they find it by themselves, they should not have it corrected for them by someone not on their team.

I also think that Ruff's Lurker conduct for his thread in RBP3 is spot on. Maybe we might adopt something of a similar nature for our team.

I think it is also worth considering what is a spoiler comment? From the recent discussion is Spulla's thread (which I will avoid discussing in detail so as to avoid spoilers here) it seems that some feel that any helpful comment by a spoiled lurker is a spoiler. On the other hand, others seem to take the side that pointing out a game mechanic, for instance, is necessarily a "spoiler" if there is no spoiled info involved.

I'm not trying to say one way is correct, but it seems that some of the issues regarding spoiler comments come from different understandings of what exactly a spoiler is. It is also worth noting for the second instance that what one may consider to no be based on spoiler info may be subtly affected by it.

Well, I agree that it was a game mechanic problem so spoilers had nothing to do with it. On the other hand, if a similar situation happened to a lesser known team, they might not document it as well and therefore a lurker wouldn't be able to help them. It's not a spoiler but it still helps the better known teams and is therefore unacceptable.

Well I think the 'spoiler' term is used somewhat as a blanket term to describe anything someone doesn't agree lurkers should be sharing with a team during a game right now. So it's true it may not be used to mean precisely some information garnered from other threads shared with them. It almost still fits though as at it's core it's still sharing information with the team that they don't have or missed to correct their play, the only difference being it didn't come from another team's thread.

In my Opinion there is little need for a big CoC or discussion about spoiler not spoilerish. There should be just one simple Rule:

A Lurker must not influence the Game.

Thats all there need to be.

If we are talking generally, I think we should also include one other rule which has just cropped up in PB2.

A Lurker must not criticise the teams actions or posts

I say this because it will only ever cause aggravation to those players who are putting all their hard work into their game and their PRIVATE thread. If lurkers have an issue with it, then either complain in the No Player thread or say nothing and look at other threads.

I think the writers have a right to get feedback in their thread else it is useless. If they read 1year later that they had a bad post in there they won't know what it was about. Besides it is not a private thread it is a public one wink.
And make no mistake they put this hard work in because they like to do it and they love the status they gain from it. Those that are not fond of it don't update very often.

Criticism is fine as long as it's about the game and not the character of the players I think.

If you want to say that you don't think trading tech X to team B was a good idea then fine.

If you want to call me a backstabbing cowardly piece of crap for trading tech X to team B who's at war with a team I have a NAP with then please keep it to yourself.

Of course criticism criticism should really only come after the fact.
