How many lurkers are there in this game? Are we down to about a half dozen?
Comment on the scouting plan: I'm going to risk it and beeline Corporal Gaskin to the north, varying between NE and NW as the terrain allows to increase the odds of seeing an enemy capital. After turn 10 I'm going to stick to forests whenever possible, hills when I can't, and flatland as little as possible (damned barbs). The reasons for this are as follows:
- As we saw from RBPB1, early contact is critical to making friendships that can last the rest of the game.
- If I keep my warrior home for defence, someone can still "call my bluff" and attack me with a warrior, and I'll be choked. What does the opposing team do then? Are they going to move the warrior out of my land, knowing they have annoyed me? Or continue to choke me and screw with my development and then carve me up later with another player or two? There isn't any way they ever know if I kept my warrior home due to the positioning of the hills; they can't see into my capital. without first declaring war.

Seven people have posted in the no players thread, not counting sunrise.
Nice reasoning regarding scouting and LoS into your capital.
I have to run.

It's quite entertaining when you think about it, because this is one scenario where previous out of game actions can affect your gameplay.
The irony is that if no one can ever see into your capital, the only way they can ever be sure of you not having a warrior is by minimum soldier points (and that rarely works due to so many civs and techs), or counting tiles due to growth if you start with a scout, which I don't.
In every other case the attacker has to metagame the likelyhood of the player keeping his warrior back, building a warrior first, which means actions in this game don't have any effect on you until the next game.

And this is the view from the plains hill:
Jackpot! Now I just need to find the food for that gold, and I have a second city location.

Currently the best place to plant a city for that gold is on the plains hill; it gives me 3 irrigates grassland to use for food, allowing the city to work the gold, 3 farms and 2 priests at size 6 (which I can reach without hapiness issues provided I get religion in the city).
However, that still sucks due to really slow growth. I need at least +5 fpt in the city so it can work 2 priests and the gold tile at all times, which means unirrigated corn, sheep, or pigs for me to do that at size 4, otherwise I need 2 food res to do it at size 5.
Now I can head either 2NW or 2NE to scout out the surrounding land for food. I think that 2NE is the best, is that covers land that is easy to fit a city in that can work gold and food, and it has a river so that'll be a nice 2nd city. 2NW gives less choice on where to plant a city, and doesn't look that nice, mostly brown.
So Corporal Gaskin is heading 2NW over the next 2 turns to scout out my prefered second city site. Hopefully there is some nice food there...

That Kylearan It's nice to find a community that hasn't fallen apart like Apolyton or as inflexible as CFC. It has to be said, but I'm really happy that this forum has started to come back to life.

Well, that gold changes my teching options considerably. I have 2 aims: Get out a city asap to be holy city and get out a city asap to work that gold, luckily they aren't mutually exclusive
I can get a city built on the plains hill forest on t36, and I can finish polytheism on eot t34, so that isn't too hard for me to do. I'd also have 2 warriors and 1 worker, with both capital food hooked and 1 farm, with a road to the city finished the turn after the city is built (without risking the worker to barbs).
So, the limit I have isn't research, it's building the settler, and I can't get it to go any faster.
I could research mining before myst though...that'd allow me to immediately hook up the gold, but it'd take 3 turns before them ine could be worked...not like I have to make a decision on that until t14 though.

Anyone got anything they would like to see, or anything I could explain for them? I'd like to try and keep up with regoarrarr in the thread spam count, but I'm a little hindered in not having 3 players to talk to.
