Try deleting your installation of the 2.0.7.4 mod and download / install again. The link here is from the .zip file I downloaded directly from Krill when he originally posted it.

Put the linked zip file into your mods directory, right click, choose Extract All. You'll end up with a folder named RtR Mod 2.0.7.4 nested inside another folder named RtR Mod 2.0.7.4 . Go into the second level Rtr Mod 2.0.7.4 folder and cut the Assets folder. Go up one level and paste it into the first RtR Mod 2.0.7.4 folder under Mods. You can then delete the empty 2nd level RtR Mod 2.0.7.4 folder. Try opening the save again.

There's either something going wrong with your mod installation or you're somehow getting extra/different files in the mod directory than you're supposed to get. Or Windows 8 is doing something that I'm not expecting. Anyone else got ideas? (Hopefully someone with Windows 8...?)

Is this problem related to the Steam update? You could try reverting to the original, pre-Steamworks release.

Ah, good point. Most players here are probably specced to use the "beta" Steam version, which is actually the original Steam release before they mucked around and replaced the Gamespy code with the stuff for Steamworks. I imagine that would be enough to trigger the altered files error message you're seeing.

There are steps for switching to the original Steam release around here somewhere.

My first Chariot lost a 95% battle.

I'll need to hole up soon, but I'm building Chariots for now. I can upgrade them to Knights in a turn or two, as long as Comm doesn't cotton on and pillage my only source of Iron.
