[SPOILERS!] Pericles of Babylon. Kyan, Twinkletoes, Whosit.

Oh and i believe novice should head south-west next turn assuming the bear doesn't head south towards us.

Oh- a couple more things to mention. Nakor's team had a score increase as their capital hit size 2 and at least 1 warrior was built. Porbably by one of the hunting civ's.

Quadruple posting! Where are the dream team?

Ok, we got some bad luck. The bear headed south which throws a large spanner in the works. So, what do we do?

If we head south and the bear does so also, we're yet again foiled in our plan for expansion. We're being super unlucky so far but it can't last forever.

Suggestions for next move? I guess it has to be south... ?

If we move SW onto hill - surely that gives us a good chance against the bear? Doesn't higher difficulty give us higher bonuses against barb animals?

Higher difficulty gives us less bonuses against barbs i believe. The hill is +25% meaning Novice would be at 2.5 strength compared to the 3 of the bear. Even if we get another bonus on top of that, we're looking at a 50:50 at best.

I don't like them odds- if we lose Novice we lose a serious amount of early scouting which could prove pivotal later on thru meeting fewer teams etc.

OK then I agree with S as our best move

grr im frustrated by that bear move. My main problem is ok so what if we go south? We lose visibility on the bear. We could then go south-west onto hill on the next turn and still have just as much chance to be jumped by the big bad bear.

South for now. Then we decide if we're feeling lucky.

South-South to be safe. South-Southwest to be daring.

OK, in the interest of making this thread less dull (how quickly are the turns turning over, anyway?), I'll crunch some numbers! Yay, excitement!~ jive

So, our Worker completes same turn as Animal Husbandry now. And then an estimated 9 turns to mining.

T0: Move to Sheep. Start Pasture (6 turns)
T5: Pasture complete.
T6: Move 1N, Begin Farm (5 turns)
T10: Farm complete.
T11: Move 2S.
T12: Begin mine (4 turns).
T15: Mine complete.
T16: Start road (2 turns).
etc.

I figure we should put roads on rough terrain while we already have the Worker there, unless we need another improvement more quickly.

Alternatively, we could mine the grassland hill first . . . Let's see. T11: Move 1NE, 1SE. Mine, Road. Yes, that'll work better!

OK, ignore the junk up there:

T11: Move Worker 1NE/1SE to grassland hill.
T12: Start mine (4 turns).
T15: Mine complete.
T16: Start road (2 turns).
T17: Road complete.
T18: Move Worker 1W/1SW/1S. We can get to the plains hills in one turn this way. Rinse and repeat mine/road.

If we went for the plains hills first, we'd waste an extra turn getting to the grassland hill. Plus, the grassland hill provides a food, for slightly faster growth. This seems to be the way to go.

We'll probably want to make Genesis a Bowman/Settler factory and grab the prime spots ASAP. Pottery will be a critical tech for Granaries and cottages, plus it's on the way to Writing.

What did we say we're doing?

Animal Husbandry > Mining > Bronze Working > Hunting > Archery.

Possibly swapping Hunting/Archery earlier if needed? Maybe:

Animal Husbandry > Mining > Hunting > Bronze Working > Archery.

This would let us swap to Archery more quickly if Barbs start becoming a problem. Our Worker will run out of things to do without being able to chop, but it may be a worthwhile trade-off. Plus, Scouts.

Probably want Pottery > Writing next.

Thanks for the post Whosit, where has our belovéd dancer got to i wonder?

Pericles managed to mis-move his entire army and clearly packed too much porridge as we're now being followed by 3 bears! Don't tell me there's no material now haha.

I would like to get bronze working asap. If we're gonna be as tight as i suspect we are, we need to secure a metal asap and there's no guarantee's we will all get our own. It wouldn't surprise me at all if sullla had spread them out evenly between civs to promote early warring.

Scouts aren't quite as great in my opinion due to emperor barbs tend to eat them alive. I'd rather use novice as a scout for now and chariots later on when possible. Not that we can currently see horses- which if anything makes a metal grab an even more important task.

Turn was totally uneventful- novice moved south and i'm thinking we take the risk of SW next turn and pray for the best.

Demo's were slightly more interesting, a few people have researched a tech now. Looks like nakor's team has both grown and discovered a tech. I also suspect someone lost a unit to a barb. Would scouts affect this? I'm thinking not. Judging by the lack of capital's at size 2 i would say pretty much everyone went worker first - cept the inca's which i presume is a quechua. There are a lot of very defenceless civ's out there. The axe rush option could still well be VERY viable!
