Combos are not out. I am waiting to hear from Bacchus, who had stated in the signup thread he wanted to play but never made it on a signup list (so I PMed him). And also waiting for some feedback on something on my proposed ruleset in the lurker thread.

I'm fine with cities being part of peace treaties, but the blanket ban is fine for a game this size.
Unit gifts are fine, IMO.
No issue with (non-spelling) trade offers for some kind of arcane signals, those fail hard more than they succeed. Just don't signal with cities.

Agree with this. Please no AW. Barbs and huts are fine with me, geography lottery will be the biggest random element anyway, and I feel those add some fun to the early game.

If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

No Huts, Events etc. It's already a big gamble with geography. Doesn't need to be added with more random elements. It is possible to win, even if you start next to Krill. But Krill getting lucky with 2 huts giving techs while you are getting jack shit? That's not fun, that's just a recipe for phoning it in.

Just so people are aware, only techs that can be popped from huts in 3.X are the 6 starting techs. Everything else is gold, maps, warrior, scout and XP. And barbs, if barbs are on. And each start tech is a 4 turn tech regardless of map size.

I don't care much either way FWIW.

I have no problem with banning unit and city trades. No huts. No events. Barbarians on.

Are we 100% decided on 3.0.0.1? I played through a game of 3.0.0.1.f as India in singleplayer to see if the bugs in the previous versions were fixed, and they all seem to be gone. The extra specialist slots for Serfdom and Emancipation are working properly, but they don't show up on the civics screen for me.

Also, BRickAstley, can you give us an idea of the ratio of water tiles to land tiles?

I'll only play if we keep the Armageddon events :P

If I wanted to play a SP game using this new mod just to get a feel for it (reading those changelogs just make my head spin) what settings might be best for me to pick from the custom game screen to give me something at least remotely similar to what this game will be?

Personally I'd prefer the arcane signals thing to also be banned. Two-fold....I don't like trying to decipher weird diplo screens with horses & gold & other resources being listed on various sides of the diplo window trying to say something to me. And I don't like the idea of having to try to send the same sorts of messages to other people, or be negatively impacted because others have mastered this odd way of "communicating without words". yikes

Ok, I feel that I need to give my honest and full opinion on this, because what is and isn't exploitative can obviously ruin X person's game ... etc.

Diplomacy should only be allowed IN GAME ... ie, you can write messages in the Diplo screen but nothing more. No emails, no Chatrooms, no Private Messages. You can rename cities, rename units, do strange things or w/e .... but naming units and writing messages in diplo screen should cover most of it, and the unit thing can be intercepted by other players anyways, so I'm fine with that level of realism as well.

Furthermore ... that's all that should be allowed, the talking that is. No Unit Gifts, City Gifts etc. Certainly I could argue that allowing for unit gifts and city gifts allows for more strategic depth, but I largely agree with Krill's statements on Tile Ownership due to Civ Culture, and the strange things it can do.

I'm not 100% against Unit gifting, tbh, especially if there is a form of gold payment, etc ... but, imho, in a game this size, something like that could easily get out of hand.

If we reach a (Please let us trade Cities and Units!!!) consensus, I would of course agree to that, but if my read on the community is correct, a large pitboss such as this should have as many bans as possible :P

That being said, I think AI diplomacy is somewhat limiting, and simply typing simple messages in the Diplo Screen, or by renaming Cities and Units, is perfectly fine. IMHO its a lot more balanced than trying to use the Game Thread/ Tech Thread as a diplomacy platform. That being said, also for realism's sake, I think once either Radio or Mass Media is researched, that Tech Thread diplomacy by everyone should be allowed ... I mean sure its somewhat silly, but I think at that stage of the game a greater interconnectivity among players seems much more reasonable to assume, plus REALISM :P
