Yeah 150 land files per player and 30% of the map as water (45 more water tikes) is necessary to not pull your hair out in frustration on a toroidal map. I'd probably stick with this combo with that short of map setup. Not sure any rerolls make it significantly better if I have faith I can stop myself being boxed in.

Good choice... no comment on the leader/civ pick, but the longer this takes, the more trolly ideas Brick and I come up with for the map...

Double lake fish, short river, couple of grass hills on the river, half dozen or so forests, and put the settler on a plains hill for irony.

Pick analysis
rerolls:
Plako: SPI/IND/Ottoman. No synergy, late game in SPI and weak IND. No redeeming features.
Barteq: CHM/CRE/Inca. Duplication of effect, essentially no civ, but leader is arguably viable without a civ. Still, reroll on principle.
REM: PRO/PHI/NA. Just ditch that leader, it falls off a cliff mid game.
Commodore: PRO/IND/Germany. Same issues that Plako has in late game benefits from Germany and the early game effect of PRO isn't going to carry it far enough, or to fight to break out.
HAK: SPI/IMP/Russia. Arguably worth keeping with 150 hammer RI and sound Cossacks, but zero relevant cheap buildings means there is no mid game to capitalize on pushing to those effects. Probably going to reroll.
Yuri: SPI/PRO/Spain. Just reroll.
The rest are viable on this kinda of game IMO and would only be rerolled for personal reasons like not wanting to play a trait.

Arguably both. I'm unconvinced by the power of IND as it currently stands and then it's diluted in the larger game to a point I'd only keep it if the second trait and UB had decent synergy. The SMEG mod effect of allowing 2 national wonders for IND seemed to be reasonable (accounting for the changes to the national wonders in that mod) but there's no way in fuck I'd make that change unless 95% of the player base was in agreement of using that as the base effect of the trait (plus small wonder building bonus and possibly the forge production bonus).
EDIT: It's not like the forge bonus is enough to power the whole trait, too many people puts pressure on getting wonders and can't get a critical mass to use all the wonder bonuses to snowball ahead.

Picks of note:
dtay: IND/IMP/Sumeria. Lock on Oracle, but starts Wheel/Agri, but Oracle to CoL makes no sense. Oracle>HBR might, and Oracle>MC can be stolen. But with tech cost changes, the early techs can be done real quick so I'm interested in seeing how it plays out. If someone takes Oracle from dtay I think he needs to get either GLH or Mids to really be strong. I also see him having difficulty founding a religion. Vultures break archers quite nicely though, so he can back up IMP if he needs to.
Serdoa: PRO/FIN/England. Perfect leader for England, except maybe Ragnar? PRO redcoats, FIN Stock exchange. It's just solid and it's in Serdoa's hands. Never get's rerolled.
Adrien: AGG/FIN/Japan. FIN is just an OK trait to have, backing up AGG, that's OK. AGG Samurai are pretty nice. The UB is just some more hammers, but although it's not cheap and it lacks synergy you canb't get everything. Not going to reroll anything better without massive luck.
Donovan: IND/AGG/Zulu. AGG Zulu, 'nuff said, it carries IND well enough. Just AGG Zulu is enough for these games.
Borsche: FIN/CHM of Vikings. FIN/CHM has 40 hammer quays that give +2 commerce on coastal tiles, it's like a whole new UB just for Hannibal. Vikings on top of that? No brainer.
Nyles: ORG/PHI/Korea. 75 hammers for 40% beakers at Education, and ORG to lower costs. Slow starting is the main issue but H'wacha eat slow mover stacks alive. I think it's probably viable, just got s struggle a bit but it can work quite well IMO.
