So...what you won't know, is I got experience from that hut. I view that as possibly the least valuable outcome possible, but trying to be positive: W2 scout in an area that has forests screwing up scouting paths means I will benefit the longer I can keep that scout alive. The eastern scout is on the plains forest hill, as I changed my mind and wanted to check all the tiles for the whales city. Turns out there is a fish but it fits into multiple dot maps. There are now quite a few options for where to scout.
As I know where the coast lines are I can either detail one scout to move off the coast and finish circumnavigating the capital whilst the other scout beelines off in one direction, or I can move both scouts towards a midpoint and then return them back to their respective coast lines. Right now I think the latter option is better.
Scout1 will move 36>11>11 and end up on what looks to be a hill that is 99 of the silver. This checks the locations for cities around that newly discovered fish and checks out northern city sites for the silver. Scout2 can move 63>33>(39) and checks around the south of the silver. And after those next three turns have elapsed, I choose one of them to finish scout around the silver for a turn or two, probably Scout1, whilst the other turns around in an arc and returns to the coast line. I'll have my entire first ring scout by T17, and so long as the barbs aren't nasty most of the second ring by T25 and the barb warriors appear. And I'll have found tons of huts and popped all the remaining start techs and have hundreds of gold saved.
Yeah, right. I'll be happy with the map knowledge. Still wondering where everyone is. Less convinced than I was that I'm on a huge fuck of peninsula where I can play builder, but I don't think there is anyone to my east. Just depends how far south/southwest/southeast the others are; anyone to the north can get blocked off easily enough. Figure that marble is probably a half way marker. That means I can fog bust the entire north with a second as marked, and 3 units. On the eastern wheat, the northern sheep, and 3 north of the clam.

So you got two huts so far, a map and experience? ouch!
edit: I guess if you put those two together, that's sort of like you got a scout? and a second scout is pretty good early hut result, right?

*shrug* the XP means I can move the scout more efficiently and will gradually gain more map knowledge and that map meant I didn't waste time moving north and then returning. Not as quantifiable long term as popping 200g or a tech but I'm liking what I see so far.
Just don't tell me those are the only two huts within 10 tiles of my capital.

The scout is strength 1 with +250% defensive bonus. The lion is strength 1. The scout has 47% chance of taking no hits, 31% chance of taking 1 hit, and 14% chance of taking 2 hits. Each hit is 11 health.
In other words, not a major concern.
Nothing uncovered. I'm constantly considering changes to the dot map, but 6 more turns of scouting and knowledge of copper location is necessary.

You know I'd be fine with that, given the amount of land I can find.
I'll tech to paratroopers and do a reverse PB18 invasion, invading everyone else with paratroopers and airlifted tanks from lurker island, crushing those peasants just reaching Rifling.
I dare you lurkers to say that wouldn't be fun to watch.
