[Spoilers] Adrien and Mardoc relax and play civ

Yeah, I was thinking of sending him to one of the ivory islands, but I guess we could occupy some more of the big island as another option. Except that we can't chop jungle yet. But with Currency and foreign trade, any new city is worth like 10 commerce immediately, plus any hammers it can contribute back.

Quote:Also I haven't whipped him but it wouldn't be a bad idea. Did you plan on double whipping him this turn ?
I can't remember. Do what looks best for production.

Quote:And what's with the idle workers ? Any plans you had for them ?
We're pretty much out of improvable tiles. I had one pair headed to the coast to get on a boat and go help a new city, and some others stacked with the army in case we have need of a tactical road. The rest were wandering around, building odd roads that maybe we could use some day, chopping any remaining forests, that sort of low priority thing. I guess you'll want to preposition some on the wines for when Monarchy comes in.
Quote:The unhappiness is very annoying, I plan on taking HR ASAP and eat the anarchy.

Yeah. Part of it is the loss of the silver gift when Jowy traded away Velociraptor. But there's definitely a reason HR is incoming. We've also got some religion options for a bit of extra happy now. I didn't pick one but it probably makes sense to include OrgRel in the revolt.

Quote: I think the next tech is feudalism ? I doubt we can survive that long though.
Could make sense. I had been sorta autopiloting trying for Engineering, but Longbows would be easier to get to from here, true.

Well our UU has one weakness : crossbows. And Fenn is China. So longbows are probably better. Plus we need machinery for engineering, it's even further away

Honestly, catapults plus horse archers work pretty well against crossbows. Work pretty well against anything we're going to see near term except maybe Knights...so long as we get the first strike, of course. Which is why I was so OCD about roading all our tiles wink.

I guess part of the question is: Does Fenn waste his army on us and set things up for Jowy to sweep the continent, in a last ditch attempt to catch up on city count? Or does Jowy go for the conventional finishing move with his massive production and knights?

Option three can't really be planned for: Wetbandit comes over the sea with rifles or tanks or whatever it is he's gotten to while the rest of us fight in the mud.

I wanted engineering mostly for the three move catapults, and secondarily for Landsknechts. But you're probably right that we can't actually get that deep in the tree before our next war. And longbows get their hill bonus freakin' everywhere, they might give us more options. If nothing else, they're another unit type to make Shock, Formation, and Cover units all attack the wrong unit.

I laughed out loud when I realized that Wetbandit had nationalism while we were still struggling to get monarchy. He could take over our entire continent very soon I think.

Three move roads are great but feudalism will take 10 to 12 turns so I think we should count at least 25 for engineering. Jowy's knight stack will be all over us way before that with guilds due next turn. I hope Fenn waits for Jowy's stack to be stuck inside our territory and flanks him. Although I have no clue what his tech rate is like, except that he seems to have engineering.

Probably worth starting to whip heavy again, then. We've got a lot of population, and it'd be a shame to let him capture any of it. I'd focus on HA and cats, with maybe some spears mixed in; that's the unit comp that could actually wipe an invading stack. Or counterattack and raze a city or two outside of the main front. Given he's 3x our power *before* knights, I don't see any way we survive, but it'd be nice to at least hurt him before we die.

Besides, once we get HR, we can build stacks in the cities themselves to offset the unhappiness of the whips that made them.

Would be nice. Honestly, I don't trust Fenn to play optimally, though. He's already had a better chance to hurt Jowy and hasn't taken it. I fear he'll do the standard newbie thing of focusing on what he can do, and not what can be done unto him. From that perspective, our Power is low, that makes us a good target, and he'll ignore the fact that Jowy would love to see China's army beat up and healing inside revolting cities.

Or else he'll stay out entirely, waiting for 'my Power to catch up to Jowy', which in practice will just mean no war. Jowy would have time to digest us before he has to consider Fenn.

Don't be so harsh on yourself, your cities aren't THAT bad....

*duck*

Serious comment, good analysis on current issues there.

I accepted it because it could get us a few commerce per turn and I don't care if he's the runaway. It can't get him more than a few commerce per turn as well, so it's not that big of a deal. I also didn't get into OR because we won't be building many (if any) buildings in the near future and it will cost us at least 2gpt.

Can you play the turn on wednesday ? I'm not 100% sure I can get the turn if it rolls a few hours early on tuesday night.

Oh, I had been thinking in terms of missionaries, actually. But if we're not ready to spend the hammers or revolt time to pick a religion, then we might as well save the cash.

Sure, I should be able to do that. I have time for the game, it's just morale which is in short supply.

Yeah there's no reason to build missionaries really, we can get the happiness from units (which will be more useful when Jowy attacks) and most cities have culture already. Thanks for stepping in on Wednesday.
