Why would just looking at the diplo window with someone you're at war with matter at all? I didn't know that anything happened if you didn't press send.

The diplo screen focus is wonky IMO, sometimes random shit gets sent to your opponent, and when at war that random shit can be a peace treaty or ceasefire and randomly teleport units around the map.
Just safer not to do it. Not like there is anything to look at when you can't trade cities.

Thinking about tech some more, I'm finding it a bit difficult to figure out precisely what it is I "need", because beyond Construction for Catapults and Calendar for a bit more happy I don't see anything critical when I'm building up to 40 cities.
Code of Laws makes the most sense, because I can build court houses in core cities, and move the palace which is cheap to build into HAK land somewhere. And build the FP in somewhere like Dimsdale Parade pretty quickly at same time. Caste is also good: I don't have any pressing need for a GP for a GA until I have all the cities down and some basic infra in them like popped borders and granaries. No major science city means Academy is...not pressing either. Considering bulb possibilities to open up Economy civics though.
I see coastal tiles out in the ocean, so I want to investigate that quickly, so Optics is needed, but exploration is meaningless without follow up plan so need a way to get Astro quickly. Fastest way is to double bulb it. Could do that reasonably easily if no Meditation or Civil Service, and bulb with 2 GS from 100 and 200GPP.
Polytheism>Priesthood>CoL>Monotheism>[MC>Machinery>Compass>Optics]>Astro.
That sounds doable...

Ah, no, I need to have Alphabet as well. That's fine, really. It fits in anywhere, although most likely occurs after Mono unless I find people that will actually give me OB as I am going to run out of trade routes soon...

Comment on Astro: It's about 4000 beakers. It has no optional prerequisites so it's generally more expensive than the other early Ren era techs like Education and Economics, and is about as expensive as Chemistry and Mil Trad. But most importantly, I have very defensible borders on land against everyone that I can see provided I eat HAK (and I'm taking that as a given). What I don't have is a defensible coastline, and if someone else rushes Astro, I could be totally fucked (more likey just pretty fucked though). So a plan that involves a beeline to Astro seems pretty decent to me, especially if it gives me access to 3 commerce trade routes plus islands as an economic advantage.
On islands though, I'm still not 100% sure of hte land layout. I started hte game assuming we were on one continent, but with the land to the far north and south east of Sandwell I'm not so certain anymore. Partly, it's because out of what I've seen of this map so far, if we are on one large pangaea, then I can only reach half of hte players through Gavagai, dtay or HAK. HAK has so few cities though I'm not convinced he has access to any land, but rather has just coast to his south. dtay has stopped expansion a while ago, so that sugegsts no land either, and Gavagai is eating people so again, that suggests he lacks land. That would put us on 2 continents total, but I don't believe Brick and Joey would put us on two continents and no additional land because that's boring, there would be very limited interaction between teh continents.
I think it's more likey that there is a reasonable amount of land overseas to fight over, as that would be what is needed to make the different continents interact, and not just play two games on one map with one set of first two bonuses. So with that assumption, a long coastline to defend and no other pressing techs, why not beeline Astro? And when I have no pressures on my GP pool because I'm SPI and have a billion cities to settle anyway, why not bulb it, as Astro is the most efficient bulb possible. So I'm reasonably happy keeping this tech path as my preferred path at present, and to sit and save gold for a while after Calendar. Not like any of those techs in this path are needed right now.
So I'm going to sit and wait, build up a gold reserve for flexibility, then go for it. Aim is Astro around T140, because why not?

So REM is eating Commodore, Plako is doing emergency whips against someone (or about to revolt into Serfdom/Caste?) and Donovan is being eaten by taotao and mackoti. Meanwhile over here we have TheWannabe being digested by myself, and Grimace is already dead between Gavagai and Barteq. And AT has skirmished with Grimace on multiple occasions, looks like he has lost a few cities through out hte game as well but nothing that's truly set him back.
I'm not quite sure, but could this game be the bloodier than PB18? I think it may be.
Probably down to the lack of islands and cheap ancient era tech...

T103 Turn report:
Finally lost a HA versus a spear, then had another HA withdraw from an axe. Everything else died and I got a measly 4 gold for the city capture and a GG for the wins. 49XP from next GG. As ai am still unsure of hte HE location I've made a medic 3/morale warrior.
In other news, AT, Tsargon and Adrien are not enough to give me a full set of routes anymore and I get Calendar in 2 turns (fine tuning wealth builds next turn). Alphabet is looking more useful by the turn. Maybe Barteq wouls give me routes...?
