I agree with you Whosit. Purple is better. I don't doubt that at all. But it's better from the single player perspective. There would be a ONE tile gap between it's second ring (bear in mind we're creative as well) and Mali's capital!
that's extremely close. I think from a meta-game and diplomatic perspective, that yellow isn't that much worse that it's worth taking the large diplomatic hit. If they took it aggresively, they could easily choke us out the game with skirmishers and there's nothing we could do about it. Bowmen lose to skirmishers everytime.
I agree with you Ky, this is why I want to try and test their loyalty as best we can before we get the settler out. I want to be able to trust them, and if we can, then we can use our choosing of yellow over purple as a 'concession' to gain favour with them when more important negotiations kick off.
Thanks for sending email too

Whosit Wrote:Meh, pandering to the Mali! How sickening! Though I suppose there wouldn't be a way to justify the move, in the end . . . .
I'm probably going to try and scheme up a way to get Purple, though I don't think that I'll be successful in that. Oh well . . . .
If we had aggresive praetorians incoming i would totally agree with you, but right now if a war kicked off with Mali we'd be in real trouble.
Random off-topic side note: in reality we could probably send all 3 warriors at them together from an angle to blindside them. I seriously doubt there would be more than 1 warrior defending. Not that i want to follow this through. Just thinking out loud

Maybe, but we'd lose at least 2 in the attempt, or have our Eastern Neighbour walk into a nice undefended capital!
We don't have the capacity for aggression, so we must use diplomacy to avoid conflicts. If we can get some trades and allies in the process then whoop de do!

I totally agree but the thought occured to me so i figured i'd post it. As a lurker myself generally i like to try and get in the mind-set of the player itself. Which is why i rather enjoy Whosit's rbpb2 thread, his mind is an intriguing place to be
