The best bit of this is that I'm watching Gav and Bacchus update their thread.
I'm waiting for them to realise the road got burnt. Unless they have 4 workers ready to go next turn, they lost a turn on any attack, and I'll have 19 HA and the bomb ready to go. If they run in with too few units they can end up giving me the exact scenario I want: they split their stack and allow me to destroy it one piece at a time.

I wanna note that I got humiliated in my first game here, but now I do pretty well... don't let one bad game get you down, TheWannabe!
Only your first?
I've done well in my other games. Other than PB25 I guess.
What was your first game here anyway? PB20?

Mechanics question: does anyone know how withdrawal is calculated in HA/HA battles?

Just running through combat calculations, so much depends on luck. If the medic 3 warrior doesn't die/get attacked, then any frontal assault on the city, even without a bomb, comes down to who simply wins more battles: Gav just needs to win enough battles, and win them with enough hp left, and the lose battles whilst doing as much damage as possible so that he doesn't get counter attacked.
If he goes 50/50, but my units heal to close to full health and his are damaged, I win. So long as we have even numbers, and that's what I'm not sure of. I know how many units I have, but how many extra units does he have? I have seen 19 HA this turn. I know I have spears as well to get through. I know I have so many C2 HA, but he doesn't seem to have as many (maximum 10, 2 C2/shock). And that's maximum I see.
So the question is, given 50/50 battles and he gets withdraw chance, how does it go. If it goes badly on his turn, then I heal (don't move units and end turn) and it can get worse, running his units down as he retreats. If it goes well for him, what do I have left on my turn? Does he even have enough units to get through all my units in one turn? This is something I don't think we've seen on RB for a long time, a true battle that is possibly decided purely on RNG.
The interesting thing is, I might not even need to risk the GA. If he doesn't turn up with enough units, I can possibly just take the battle without the bomb, and if it goes badly, then I still keep the GA. I just wish I hada few CKN on hand.

yup, ended up boning me and then I panicked and tried to rush my way out of it. It didn't work; RIP.

AFAIK it's like any other withdraw scenario. When the attacking unit is about to take damage that would otherwise kill it, another random number is rolled. If that number is under the unit's withdraw chance, then the unit withdraws instead of dying. By the way, this still counts as a "victory", and thus the withdrawing unit still does flanking damage to catapults in the stack, if applicable.

I think you fight as normal until the attacker is down to the last hit, then each combat roll gives a withdrawal chance (shown in the tooltip) too. So if the defender doesn't get a hit you get another chance to withdraw. But that's just from observation, I don't know it for sure. Preview edit: sounds the same as what Joey describes though.
Enjoyed the bit of the stream I watched, especially all the cities you've given up on already!

Enjoyed your latest stream, as well. Nice background while I'm eating dinner, packing my lunch, etc . Whatever you changed about your microphone settings was enough for me.
I'm a little confused by your latest post. Are you talking about receiving an attack, and then counterattack? Or attacking out at Gav's stack first?
Your 11-turn logistics train is moderately insane. While you're thinking about next turn's tactics, you're also setting up build queues for the front 15 turns from now. I can see that Engineering would help, but 8-turn logistics is still a pretty nasty delay.

I'm going to stream the turn. I've logged in (so Gav and Bacchus can't make any more changes) but so far I'm not unduly concerned. I ought to explain why though.
I need to grab a shower first though. Probably going to stream from about 1915 GMT, half an hour from now.
