Not if you recapture it, borders automatically pop back to where they were. Just won't generate any culture. And anyway, if you do recapture it, you don't get a choice to raze it as you founded it.

Turn59
What I'd failed to notice is the Viking galley had nav 1. So they unloaded an axe and chariot and killed the warrior on the plains hill, moving their stack (1 axe, 3 chariot) there. I've got an axe, a spear a warrior and a scout in krillpatine, which should hold this turn. Although the spear wasn't there last turn, so they may not want to attack now.
They could move to cover my copper, preventing another unit completing this turn. If I work the stone and a plains forest the unit does complete, am I down to such short term thinking? Anyway, I'll get a free shot at any chariots that try to cut my copper, so I'm not sure they'll try that.
On defense, unless they get lucky the spear should take out two chariots. the third is likely to kill my axe, leaving a new unit, a warrior and a scout facing an axe and chariot wit either a wounded spear on my side or a wounded chariot on his. Either way I think I need a second axe rather than a second spear, so I need to log back in to change the build just as soon as young Harry falls asleep...

I mean, you don't have much of a long term without the short term ...

Turn something or other
Not a whole lot happened over the last couple of turns - OT4metra have two axes and two chariots sitting on the plains hill, I have two axes and a spear with another spear due to complete next turn. I think I need to settle on the horses and whip some war chariots out if I'm going to get the cap back. But is that Settler a stretch too far? Do I last longer and cause them more trouble if I keep building units and turtling?

Well, how much time do you want to spend on the game? If little, just turtle. If more, I'd say settle the second city. Proactive, goal-oriented = probably more interesting.

Turn 63
Back home so proactive, goal-oriented pictures incoming. I'll put enough hammers into the settler that when I 2-pop whip it it'll overflow >30 hammers. Then will grow to S4 while completing the spear in the queue. Then can whip the settler, settle immediately and use the overflow to complete a War Chariot, with more following fast with a chop or two. Unfortunately Alexandria can whip another unit and it might be a spear.
The Viking scout disappeared off to the SW, so he could be on the fogged desert tile, popping back every now and then to see if I've roaded to or settled on the horse. The galley looked like it was heading off to the NW to harass some other poor sucker, but I just presume that means they have another galley with reinforcements incoming or they're building roads.
This graph tells a story of how much longer I'm likely to last.

The good news is: Its an axe!
The bad news is: My first War Chariot isn't out until t70
The good news is: He'll be followed immediately by three more chariots in two turns
The bad news is: The granary in Alexandria will allow a spear whip by then
The good news is: These turns are really fun to play and don't take up much time at all
The bad news is: The barbs seem to be ganging up on OT4metra's side
