Absurd beeline: Complete!
Was it worth it? That's...a big question.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer is a bit more complex, though. We are pretty much screwed with regards to the horse race...we just met Pindicooter south of TBS and they're on 5 cities, while TBS just settled his sixth. We have four tiny little nubbins of nothin', and REM, OH, and Mack are all roaring along out there in the fog (okay, OH is actually found but not yet met in the west). In a field this good, being this behind on the REX game means we're probably never going to catch up. So yeah, this silly direct Metal Casing beeline and Colossus aren't worth it in the conventional view.
But the view in this game is *anything* but conventional:
Honestly, I'm not sure what profit there would have been in pushing REX. We would have...double tundra deer and a fish?
Basically, we're not ever going to manage top REX here. We're freaking Catherine so we'll be able to draft the pack decently, but never amazingly. With the Colossus, techwise...we're still not going to be top ever, but we will have some semblance of normalcy. And this is a veterans game. We're not going to be pulling off one of the classic dazzling Commodore/Dtay knight rushes. But maybe we can dogpile if we keep in range of the pack...

Second to seven cities! Sure over half are size 1 and the rest are size 3, but still!
As you can clearly see, we can easily expand to up to five more before completely running out of food...

Are you planning to keep the Barb city, or move it?

The island is just a city on the ivory thus far, hard to do more without, well, food. Polynesian, the barbarian pig city far southwest, has already been captured by OT4E's Inca.

In less-than-grim news, judging by who has met whom it seems like TBS with his pretty decent land is stuck in the middle of Pindicooter and us. That's a situation that has some potential...

Another bright side: All these swarms of barbarians means the heroic unlock was easy.
First luxury hooked, ivory. Found a foodless gems too, so that's swell!

I like how your civ's colour is complimented by the huge swathes of tundra...
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either.

I know, I know, it's been kind of slow in here. Don't worry, though...it's been slow in-game as well! The biggest news of the last couple turns has been finding clams down at the very tip of the southeastern peninsula. So I reckon that's fun. I need another REX wave, but it's been all-barbarians, all the time lately.
Weirdly enough, zero barbarians have cropped up on my brand new island. Although I guess it's less weird when you realize that yes, Virginia, this is indeed a foodless huge island with completely needed luxuries right next door to the rabidly aggressive eternal viking guy. What fun!
