Thanks for consistently updating. It's a a bit of a shame that this game is being overshadowed by PB33, it looks like there are some interesting stories going untold here.

Looks like I overestimated my ability to 2t Engineering:

Necessary though, since Ichabod is closing in.

Didn't show you this last turn (because I forgot):

Yeah, I know he can see it but I've got no choice. I still might call them back next turn and not attack, you see Ichabod just took Jowy's city at the "x" above the scoreboard so he has his Cataphracts in the area. I really think I've been a bit late in trying for Adrien's city, but it's taken me a while to build up a semi-decent force.

Oh, I also received an OB offer from Mr. Cairo this turn. I canceled out and considered, but since I'm trying to build goodwill it seemed like a decent idea - and he's got enough OB with others to fill his routes anyway.

Thanks & feel free to ask questions if there's something I haven't covered or I can look into. I should really post a stitch of my map since I probably have the most complete one available.

Pitboss 33 Spoilers:
I've only been consistent here recently - since PB33 became a lot less time-consuming with the war going awry and OT4E's new baby eating up his time for discussion. It's possible that my civ would have been more active and less passive if I hadn't been putting a minimal effort in. Another reminder that I should try to stick to 1 pitboss at a time - although I thought I'd learned that lesson before! lol

Yeah, this is probably a mistake. scared

I sent a Sheep-Sheep deal to both Ichabod & Mr. Cairo at the end of last turn.

I popped back in after Ichabod played to see how bad things looked and was greeted by this:

Iiam

Made no sense at first, but then I thought a bit and looked at the border:

So my theory is that it's an offer to split the region between the two of us (I couldn't offer Furs & Sugar, and Ichabod only has 1 Horse and couldn't risk my accepting). I returned the offer and now I need to decide whether I want to raze & replace either or both of the cities. Croissant is dreadfully vulnerable to 2-movers from Juno....

Taking an overview look at the area in question:

Croissant is definitely too vulnerable and has to be replaced. Choucroute is a lot better as long as we can control the tile 2E of the city - which should be doable as long as some effort is made to do so. From a support perspective though, it might be better to replace 1S. I'll see how things progress and whether the city comes with anything.

Attack on Croissant:

Sent in my one(!?) Catapult, which merely scratched the defenders, but scratches were enough to give a CRII Sword ~even odds on the Crossbow ... which it won! Second CRII had 2/3 on the Axe and also won! jive Then it was cleanup with a CRI Sword scoring another promo vs a Spear and an unpromoted War Chariot getting 2xp from a Warrior to get up to 5xp and gain Sentry!

Well that went better than expected, and there isn't even any useful infrastructure to tempt me to keep it:

City razed and replaced 1SW.

Ichabod was logged in at the same time and moving units, so I find it highly unlikely that he's planning a betrayal in the next couple of turns so I left a decent stack in the new city and moved the rest of the stack forward (including my first Pike).

I've got a 3t Settler dialed up in Weed that should be on course to replace the city if needed, and I've also added a couple of Workboats in the NW & SE to do some more exploring.

t154 - Aha!

So here's Adrien's stack come to greet us:

I guess I should have expected to see something of the sort as soon as I noticed Mr. Cairo's troops hanging around over his side of the border.

Well, there's no way I'm breaking that stack without more Cats and more raw numbers - esp. with the Swords unable to capitalise on the city attack bonus. Time to retreat....

Moved 1S onto the hill back within borders and brought up a few additional units to cover. I don't think he'll attack since Mr. Cairo is on the other side, but I'm prepared to be wrong (and potentially lose a large portion of my stack). Switched a few builds to Crossbows and whiped a city or two that I might not have done otherwise.

After additional thought I sent a request for Peace since there's nothing I can do in the next 10t anyway.

t155 - Peace.

Phew. Got away with one there, I think.

Rejiggery of units ongoing and a few more Courthouses queued. Meanwhile BRick took (back?) 4 cities from Yuris ... still looking like he might be the best target, even if oversees.

Sorry for the lack of recent updates; I picked up a bunch of P&C games in the Steam Sale and have been playing them with my Wife, so each evening I get a pointed question about how long I'll be "playing my turns"... crazyeye

Quick update on the Marijuana Empire: grabbed HBR a few turns ago and have some Stables in production. Guilds due at the end of next turn with a minimum of Wealth builds, then ~4t to Banking. I have a Great Person due from Weed in a couple of turns, which will be approx 80% GSci, 18% GArt & 2% GEng; I delayed the GPro from Troll, since there's no rush to use it. I already have the GS & GA stacked for the 2-man GAge, and have run rough numbers to be confident that I can get through Philo & Nationalism in that time, but until I actually get the GA going and Emancipation adopted I won't be sure whether I can pick up Mono & Drama as well, nor how much Wealth will need to be built.

I've been generally growing cities in anticipation of GA/Emancipation, but once Guilds is in I'll be "resizing" a few down to Filler status so that others can pick up the tiles as they grow. In particular, Dope & Hash will cede tiles to their larger neighbours and in the South Commerce tiles (incl. both Gems) will shuffle into Panama Red as the Market completes and the production tiles will move to Bhang and Blunts. Not sure how many Knights will come out and how quickly, but probably not enough to put a dent in anyone unless I see an opening (more on this later).

Geopolitical update:

Ichabod: has not completed any tech since researching Paper, but he must be weighing up his chances for Liberalism and what he can expect to take with it. He knows that I have a GSci sitting idle, so I expect he's waiting to see what I do. If Weed spawns a GSci in a couple of turns I could theoretically burn them both to try to race him, but a) even then I think I'm too far behind & b) if I went all-out, I wouldn't even be able to Lib a decent tech target, having neither Banking to open Economics nor Philo to open Nationalism. Overall, my assessment is that the risk/reward is very against making the attempt.

He has his Cataphracts healing in Jowy's final Capital, on the border with Adrien; I'm keeping a careful eye out, but I doubt he'll make a move against either him or myself. The cost-reward ratio of hitting Adrien is just tiny for him, me or Mr. Cairo; there's 3 cities to be gained, but the size of Adrien's stack means it'll cost a large number of units to bring down, and then you're immediately vulnerable to having your stack remains wiped by 2 opportunistic new neighbours so need it to be even bigger. I expect Adrien to be around for a long while yet (probably Cannons).

Gawdzak: has gone the Religious route grabbing Theology and building the AP. In an interesting move he did so for Christianity rather than the more-established Judaism which he had previously adopted (but probably not manually spread). What was excellent news for me was that I got a very quick spread into my Moai city which interrupted its Market build to pop out a quick Monastery. On further thought, I may grab Mono on the way to Banking so I can OR at the start of the GA and suspend the Market in the meantime to throw out some Missionaries to take advantage of the extra hammers.

Gawdzak followed that by grabbing (Bulb?) Philosophy and is saving gold on Nationalism. Mercantilism is certainly the right civic for him since he's already running Rep from Pyramids, and as IND I expect him to grab the Taj - though it won't stop me challenging if it's still open when I get there (it won't be). It does mean that he's spent a lot of time in the middle of the Tech tree, and I doubt he has much at the bottom. This is in contrast to Ichabod, who has spent his time at the bottom and little in the middle.

Mr. Cairo: I've mentioned a bit already, but he's about to run out of his first Golden Age and will be exiting in Bureaucracy having just grabbed CS. Guilds is queued up, but I don't think he'll reach it before the end. As previously mentioned, he's now bogged down with very little incentive to finish off Adrien, but probably still quite a bit of WW. He's got a lot of Galleys and a big army, but I haven't seen any Triremes to face off against mine and now we have Open Borders I have an unused Worker keeping eyes on his stack.

AT: I have less info on AT because he's the EP leader and I gave up on trying to get tech visibility on him (I think he has on me). He's been whipping quite a bit recently and his Power has been climbing steadily, although not at a much faster rate than me which made me think that it's a more defensive than offensive build-up - he borders Ichabod after all. OTOH, he just adopted Theocracy ... and I think did so outside a Golden Age, so now I have no idea. It does raise the concern of C1 Triremes coming at me, but I have been emphasizing them myself for a while and I doubt he could do more than grab an odd island city from me before I pushed him back. If he's going on the offense, I think it's much more likely to be Molach as the target.

Then there's the mess on the Southern continent. From what I can tell, Nyles hit Yuri pretty hard and is wearing him down slowly. BRick took advantage and grabbed a bunch of his cities back, but I have no idea if he can hold them in the long term. This might be an opportunity if I can apply the right force at the right time, but my visibility down here is severely lacking. I'm accelerating an extra pair of WCs down to do a quick survey and see what's what. I'm also bringing 2/3 of my NW Galleys down through my new Fort Canal for the eventuality of a potential attack - ETA 4-5t to go through the whole route. I'll trickle some of the Swords, etc. down this way as well and any new Knights will stage somewhere with easy access. We'll see how things develop over the next few turns....

Well, some interesting news from IBT:

AT took Paper and so I can see ... we're at parity or he's up on me in tech. Oh, and Gunpowder. Also Ichabod completed Education so going complete runway. Maybe he'll just grab Economics rather than going straight to Lib ... since he has a few pre-reqs to pick up as well. (still no CoL crazyeye )

Oh, and Molach completed Notre Dame, so I should probably reassess where he stands in the scheme of things.

OTOH, I just landed Guilds and am seriously considering breaking off a piece of BRick:

Optimistically, if I took Helicopter with Swords and landed a half-dozen Knights, I could probably take Undertaker and Shakespeare without too much problem. He's got a decent force in Revolution (Gawdzak is massing Maces over here) and the rest is heading East to punish Yuri. I'd need to follow-up with a bunch of stuff to actually hold the gains, but I do think there's an opportunity here.

For reference, I know it's a bad idea to string myself out overseas, but I can't win this by just going vertical:

But probably Gawdzak makes the profit out of it long-term... scared
