It might be referencing the one where the Referee Rage Quit.

THE DAILY ROLL
TURN 216–218: NOT ENOUGH WORKERS
The 8/18 Project is officially over, and eight Aztec cities blanket the continent, connected and bound by rivers, roads, and workers. The east and west extremes of the nation have been demarcated by newly found ports. This effort has placed the Aztecs well at the forefront of the city count, but middle of the pack if not worse in technology and production. It is also not immediately clear what future claims should take priority, nor the queues that would lead to another round of settlers—the cities being more concerned with libraries and improvements as expansion gives way to industry and a growing workers' class. As if to jolt the Aztecs out of the chutzpah of their comfortable lead, a nationalistic England has just revealed another possible angle of attack: a landbridge lying in the Arctic Circle, envoys are now urgently being sent to ask for maps of this dangerous approach. Far away the Ottomans' liberalism find has been cashed in for access to astronomy, a technology whose lack is going to become more and more of a handicap as the mainland is progressively coloured into zones of control.

Rage Quit made me think of PB7 straight away. But hell, I've done the disservice of ending a couple of my games that way.
No idea in Masterclass

We have a winner.
PB7: Rage Quit
There's been plenty of games featuring rage quits, but I think this game is the winner. The entire game essentially ended in a collective rage quit. It's a miracle the game survived as long as it did. It was one of the last games to feature a public banter/diplo thread as an alternative to full diplo because, well... it went very badly. This game also started the Fine Tradition of launching a "casual game" that turns into a hardcore turn timer camping double moving mess. I'm not going to quote people because it got uncomfortably personal at times, and we've all collectively agreed to not revisit many things that happened here. So here's a sampling of events:
* Several player rage quits
* Serious discussions about forcibly removing players
* Out-of-game threats
* Godwin's Law being invoked
* A game admin rage quitting
The major redeeming quality of this game was the emergence of Ichabod as arguably the most popular RB forum personality.
Ichabod Wrote:You guys talk like we don't have any combat going on on our part of the world. That's not true. Some turns ago Pindicator actually blocked one of my cottages with his scout, making me lose precious commerce. I just don't see a need to turn this confrontation public.
But rest assured, it's happening.
I honestly don't remember who technically won that game (if anyone did), but I do remember I considered Ichabod to be the winner.

Rage Quit immediately made me think of PB24, but I was pretty sure you were on hiatus then so it wouldn't be on your radar.
Quote from the spreadsheet:
Quote:GermanJoey, Krill and Thoth bailed on the game on turn 5 after Elkad threw a hissy fit about not checking game settings and threatened to not play on.
But then who wouldn't bail if the rest of the field demanded you lose three techs?
IIRC, espionage was turned off when it was supposed to be on. The players were split regarding a restart and Thoth, who had popped 3 techs from huts, understandably wanted to keep them. Result was a T5 rage quit.
I'll go with the PB10 teamer for masterclass.
Love the naming scheme btw.

I did mostly miss that one, although I was vaguely familiar with what happened. Maybe I'll circle back to that one somehow. The zaniness of PB7 just needed to be mentioned.

PBEM23: Masterclass
Game History Spreadsheet Wrote:what can i say
best game i ever seen
I agree. This game renewed my interest in Civ purely due to how much I learned from it. The SevenSpirits, Novice, and Spaceman trio played what I consider to be the best opening 100ish turns we've ever seen here. If it's not the best, it definitely was at the time. I thought about calling this game "Astronomy Bulb" instead. This was the scoreboard 79 quick speed turns into the game:
Quote:Novice/Space/Seven: 918
Mackoti: 663
Luddite/Pindicator: 560
Sian: 555
Yuris/Nicolae/Lewwyn: 536
Fierce: 326
On a game with islands, the NoSpaceSeven team built Pyramids and then bulbed Astronomy extraordinarily early by avoiding key techs and seemingly were about to run away with the game. It's impossible for me to overstate how well this opening was executed. Perfect micro meets excellent strategy. Shortly after the bulbing, this was their demo screen despite two other players being in a golden age:
SevenSpirits Wrote:
Demos look fine. And we passed a thousand points this turn, whoo! Mackoti is in second, more than 300 points behind. Not that bulbing a bunch of stuff gives you a point lead or anything. wink IIRC we're also technically two eras ahead of everyone else. That's kinda cool. Of course Machinery/Optics/Philosophy from Medieval and Astronomy from the Rennaissance were all bulbed, but we've at least researched Civil Service and we'll go for Nationalism soon.
Despair was had:

(November 3rd, 2011, 16:06)mackoti Wrote: We are dead, we will see galeons in like 4-5 turns.And after that who they will pick?
A normal player would have conceded I imagine, but apparently Mackoti doesn't check out of games. He mass-whipped Caravels to stave off the Galleons. A little later from his thread:
(November 26th, 2011, 14:02)Ceiliazul Wrote: I see you're at war with NS7, what are your plans for that?
(November 30th, 2011, 03:16)mackoti Wrote: Well they annoyed me realy hard and becaue of that even they deserved to win the game will loose it.
<snip>
The atack plan?well in 5 turns from now i will have 25 knigs in pozition to enter in nospa teritory, if i road a certai forest i can lunch an atack rigth to a city.
So the plan is simple do as much damage to the Nospa becasue they played all the game agains me.They got galeons to harass me no one else...
A few months later in a very climactic moment, NoSpaceSeven had an 80 unit stack wiped out in one full turn. Mackoti's turn report was especially memorable. Here's the entire report:
(February 26th, 2012, 09:52)mackoti Wrote: Looks like I do wonders for Nospa economy whem my turn started they were doin-32 gold at 100 taxes, after i finished my turn was like +66 so 100 gold, so yeah even like enemies i am doing more good to theyr economy.
(Translation: he killed a metric ton of units. Even more were lost on the NoSpaceSeven half of turn.)
In conclusion:
Novice Wrote:I evacuated Give me a name, and offered that city plus Nix to Mackoti for peace. I also offered white peace to Luddicator because war is hell.
Then I went and played with my children.
The game was called a draw shortly thereafter.

I was expecting the PB7 reference to be 'FriendlyGame' or 'CasualDiploGame' but I suppose 'RageQuit' makes sense with it being the final result.
As someone who lost a bit of sanity on that game, I really don't understand why PB7 is such a meme just because of the Rage Quits. That being said I never went back to read anything related to that garbage fire and basically stopped playing multiplayer civ after that so maybe it got even more glorious after I jumped ship.
I guess we didn't realise that Unclear Phrasing of Rules + Not Reading the Rules Because Casual Game + Full Diplo Lynch Mob was a bad idea somehow. More innocent times.
I will say that Lord TryHard von TimerCamperton and his connection kicking me out of PB on a super important turn roll was the most frustrating single moment of CIV or any turn based board or video game I have ever experienced.

scooter, request: Could you provide links to the forum for each game in the game description post? And possibly for important game threads if like PBEM23 you're referencing a specific team as well. Not for ume per se, but for lurkers it could be really helpful. Cheers.

Hissyfit? I asked for a custom DLL to fix the EP checkbox, which would have left everything else alone (including Thoth's hut jackpot)
Custom DLL fix for a setting has been done in at least 2 other games, and was offered again for 24, but by the time it was offered half the rest of the players had gone off on a tangent about the techs or whatever, a couple had quit (before I ever mentioned quitting), and others had changed their votes about restarting.
And this is probably a completely inappropriate place to discuss it anyway...
