Overwatch does indeed trigger off of the free move that the aliens get.

Nah, you need to perfectly flank an enemy for it to count. It doesn't matter how far away you are from them, if you cannot get around their cover completely then you won't flank them.

Kinda true, one enemy per mission is guaranteed to drop loot, however if he dies via an explosion (grenade or other) then the loot is lost. If they are shot dead it's ok, even if they were hit with a grenade before.
Also signing up to be a sharpshooter, lets snipe some aliens.

Isn't there a graphical indicator next to an enemy's nameplate that shows you if they will be shootable or flanked from where you're moving to? Or is that just a mod? The Marbozir LP I watched was fairly heavy on quality-of-life mods, so I don't know if that was a base feature or not.

Yeah I think 1 tile further would have been a flank. I think I need to get out of the flanking mindset. In Enemy Unknown I was playing with the Aiming Angles option that gives you better accuracy the closer you are to flanking an enemy.

Ty! I love this UI improvement. I'll keep an eye out for it, I think it's either the red alien faces on top of the action menu, or the shields next to their HP bars. Possibly both.
Cool to see this many brave volunteers. I will rename soldiers after they've been promoted once and gotten their class.

I've never played XCOM 2, I'm interested to see the differences between this game and the original Microprose X-Com.

XCOM 2 is a sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 remake of the original, so its story is very different from the original Microprose game. The premise is that XCOM failed to successfully defend Earth against the alien invasion; now, some years later, you take charge of resistance fighting a guerrilla war. You don't need to have played Enemy Unknown to appreciate XCOM 2, but there's a lot of character interplay based on relationships from EU, so it helps.
