Ender's Game is good though a bit overrated. Space battle school is insanely awesome. But there's a sizable amount of filler material around that, especially the virtual world subplot.
I can also see where the book would have less appeal to an adult. The story of Ender himself is all about awkwardly fitting in to a school situation. Exactly like any reader who would be reading sci-fi as a high school teenager. Adults won't identify with Ender's character quite so strongly.

I thought this was a civ forum, not literary criticism class?

picture that got sent by Darrell, to help with planning how to kill the two chariots. I'm pretty sure both those chariots are dead if they stick around too long, or if they try to attack India with them.

Chat with Mukha. I'm pretty sure if the Rome attack goes well, I'll have him as a good friend for the rest of the game, who will at least look out for me to some extent.
Quote:(11:49:57 AM) Krill: yeah
(11:50:28 AM) Portugal: ok, so you probably got my email
(11:50:37 AM) Krill: About France?
(11:50:39 AM) Portugal: yeah
(11:50:47 AM) Krill: FWIW, I agree with you
(11:50:53 AM) Portugal: ok
(11:51:20 AM) Portugal: well that's good to hear
(11:51:30 AM) Krill: I'm quite happy to see France destroyed
(11:51:32 AM) Portugal: but I'll leave that issue at the moment so everyone can have time to discuss
(11:51:35 AM) Krill: I think alot of teams are
(11:51:42 AM) Portugal: but I was also wondering what techs everyone was on
(11:51:50 AM) Portugal: I think carthage is on maths, india and us money
(11:52:02 AM) Krill: it's just, well, we need them to sit on ourside and play with themselves, and once we have the CANT handled then we crush them
(11:52:06 AM) Krill: ok
(11:52:11 AM) Krill: Carthage, maths, t70
(11:52:16 AM) Krill: Ottomans, IW, t71
(11:52:18 AM) Portugal: someone on monotheism? metal casting? monarchy
(11:52:21 AM) Krill: HRE HBR, t72
(11:52:25 AM) Krill: I'm on monotheism
(11:52:35 AM) Krill: t71, maybe t70
(11:52:48 AM) Krill: Monarchy, England, they start once I gift them Monotheism
(11:53:02 AM) Portugal: right ok
(11:54:06 AM) Portugal: what should we head to? construction? currency? hopefully we can get our units back inside borders wherever they may be and start earning some proper cash
(11:55:08 AM) Krill: Just save gold atm
(11:55:17 AM) Krill: We really need someone to research Currency
(11:55:32 AM) Krill: which was one of the reasons France might be useful to us as a tool, to research that asap
(11:55:43 AM) Portugal: what were they on?
(11:55:44 AM) Krill: then we can share gold and this sort of cooperation is much easiert to deal with
(11:55:46 AM) Portugal: money?
(11:56:04 AM) Krill: right now, yeah, money
(11:56:08 AM) Krill: but they don;t have pottery?
(11:56:12 AM) Portugal: no
(11:56:16 AM) Portugal: just got contact with ottos
(11:56:19 AM) Krill: oh holy fuck they are more useless than I though
(11:56:28 AM) Portugal: i keep giving them directions for contact and then head the opposite direction
(11:56:36 AM) Portugal: after screenshots and circles and everything
(11:56:54 AM) Krill: Well
(11:57:00 AM) Krill: less contacts they have, easier to kill them
(11:57:08 AM) Krill: and looks like they can't be relied on to tech anything
(11:57:10 AM) Krill: OK
(11:57:36 AM) Portugal: yeah, but we would be busy elsewhere
(11:57:52 AM) Portugal: so we know how keen you are on France (not very) but how do you feel about the Babylon side?
(11:57:55 AM) Portugal: a bit far fetched?
(11:59:49 AM) Krill: Sorry, organisiin g a take away for late while reading what you are writing
(12:00:01 PM) Krill: It's not that I don;t want Babylon in the alliance
(12:00:18 PM) Krill: But that is an entire row of 4 civs, and therefore they only have 2 flanks to worry about
(12:00:24 PM) Krill: north and south
(12:00:54 PM) Krill: We would more likely have to offer Babylon a space for them, and another team
(12:01:02 PM) Krill: Either Byz, or Mali
(12:01:15 PM) Krill: Now, I'm fine offering them the slot
(12:01:21 PM) Portugal: hmm
(12:01:25 PM) Krill: But it isn't just sdown to me
(12:01:39 PM) Krill: it is down to Carthage, England, Ottomans and DIM
(12:01:51 PM) Krill: because they are the ones currently researching techs that would need to get gifted to them
(12:01:59 PM) Krill: and the first two on that list will border them.
(12:02:07 PM) Krill: Maybe they wanted to expand in tthat direction
(12:02:20 PM) Portugal: i'm not sure if anyone will go for having another two teams even with france out
(12:02:25 PM) Portugal: yeah
(12:02:48 PM) Portugal: will have to see how everyone responds, but we get contact with carthage and england on t68
(12:02:57 PM) Portugal: so we couldn't send it to them
(12:03:04 PM) Krill: ok
(12:03:06 PM) Portugal: could you send my email on?
(12:03:09 PM) Krill: sure
(12:03:53 PM) Krill: The other option I suppose is just let the aliiance fall abart after we get the major techs, maths/HBR/IW
(12:04:14 PM) Krill: NOt something that I'm actively considering, of course
(12:04:21 PM) Krill: just wondering how the other alliance would take it
(12:04:32 PM) Krill: Because I know that maya don;t like working with Exploit
(12:04:41 PM) Portugal: ahh right
(12:04:44 PM) Krill: probably no one does
(12:04:45 PM) Portugal: I don't think anyone does
(12:04:49 PM) Krill: yeah
(12:05:08 PM) Krill: so maybe if we devolved ourselves into smaller teching groups, we could cause them to do the same
(12:05:26 PM) Krill: And France would die quickly in that case
(12:06:33 PM) Portugal: at the moment, I don't think there is really much of a counter alliance, Rome thinks they are perfectly capable of going it alone
(12:06:47 PM) Portugal: and the incans are pretty isolated
(12:07:00 PM) Krill: Incans are screwed
(12:07:07 PM) Krill: Rome, well
(12:07:13 PM) Krill: you outnumber them in cities and pop
(12:07:15 PM) Krill: and tech
(12:07:31 PM) Krill: you shouldn't just weather the storm, you should be planing on destroying them
(12:07:41 PM) Krill: Exploit we need to diplomaticaly isolate
(12:08:04 PM) Krill: France we need to figure out how to get the teams south of him wanting him dead as well, probably best doing that by saying will split hte land if they help out.
(12:10:18 PM) Portugal: ok, well I'm not sure what contacts everyone has with that row of civs
(12:10:30 PM) Krill: Hmmm, have none
(12:10:32 PM) Portugal: we know only babylon, but they gave us directions to byzantium
(12:10:33 PM) Krill: *I
(12:10:43 PM) Portugal: which is just a couple of turns away I think
(12:10:52 PM) Krill: ah, you know where babylon are?
(12:10:58 PM) Portugal: yes
(12:11:06 PM) Portugal: 30N some number west of our cap
(12:11:10 PM) Portugal: their cap that is
(12:11:17 PM) Portugal: i think maybe 8w
(12:11:51 PM) Krill: ok, so probably quite close to one of my scouting warriors
(12:12:01 PM) Krill: Are Byz to the east of babylon?
(12:12:08 PM) Portugal: yes
(12:12:15 PM) Portugal: then maya east of them then mali
(12:12:17 PM) Krill: Ah, I'm probably quite close to Babs then
(12:13:22 PM) Portugal: babylon also settled a city to the east of their capital if that's any closer to your scout
(12:13:39 PM) Krill: Yeah, means I'm probably only about 10 turns away from them with a warrior
(12:13:43 PM) Krill: unless someone kills it.
(12:13:54 PM) Krill: Something that wouldn't surprise me tbh
(12:14:06 PM) Portugal: ahh, we had 3 barb warriors ambush our scout for aztecs
(12:15:25 PM) Portugal: ok, well if it is a possibility to get babylon in, then we would need to move fairly quickly to keep alphabet off the others
(12:15:42 PM) Portugal: but they may not be willing to break deals so thoroughly
(12:16:06 PM) Krill: Well, Exploit is researching Alpha, so we would really need him dead before we could use that as a good reason to add babs to the group
(12:19:01 PM) Portugal: I just hope the alliance can be patient with us, to do the wars we find necessary before we can get our commerce going
(12:19:09 PM) Portugal: don't want to go the way of France...
(12:19:34 PM) Krill: You and India aren't in a great position.
(12:19:40 PM) Krill: That has to be said
(12:21:39 PM) Krill: you really need, both of you, to cripple your neighbours and then continue your natural growth
(12:21:51 PM) Krill: Just to give yourselves good positions for later on
(12:22:39 PM) Portugal: yeah, it's a fairly all out attack in the hopes of being quick and decisive
(12:22:53 PM) Krill: How many chariots you attacking with, BTW?
(12:23:04 PM) Portugal: 7
(12:23:15 PM) Krill: Holy fuck dude, that is going to be awesome
(12:23:24 PM) Krill: I want updates on that :D
(12:23:56 PM) Portugal: heh, well we just hope that his best unit is axemen
(12:24:19 PM) Krill: probably are
(12:24:35 PM) Portugal: it's a pity incan caught our city right as it finished a chariot because horses wouldn't have been visibile to exploit in trade
(12:24:44 PM) Krill: if he doesn;t have hunting, which you can easily check using f$, he'll likely be building axes and maybe a warrior or 2
(12:24:57 PM) Portugal: no, he doesn't have hunting or animal husbandry
(12:25:08 PM) Krill: he is totally screwed
(12:26:06 PM) Portugal: also, I'm not sure but I was hoping to check with you, having looked at your screenshots in a while
(12:26:15 PM) Portugal: we think we might know the location of iron
(12:26:37 PM) Portugal: strategic resource cities appear to balanced with some food to make them non dud
(12:26:53 PM) Krill: not really.
(12:26:58 PM) Krill: My coper city has no food
(12:27:24 PM) Portugal: we have a symmetrical layout of copper/pig/something useful
(12:27:38 PM) Krill: You got lucky then...
(12:27:48 PM) Portugal: and pig/corn/horse pig/corn/plentyof room for iron
(12:29:09 PM) Portugal: ok nm then, just us pigtoria
(12:30:57 PM) Portugal: ok, well I'll speak to you later, gotta head
(12:31:04 PM) Krill: cya later mate
(12:31:09 PM) Portugal: bye

And screenies from t66. I'm not in the best position in the game far from it, but I'm not in a bad one either, considering I could quite easily get 3 religions and then shrine them. I'm also middle of the pack GNP/MFG wise, but the immense number of chops I have available means that I should be considered to have a much higher MFG, probably equal to the front runners in game. My crop yield sucks (12th), but it is at its' ebb now, as I have slaved AM down, and not yet settled the new cities. In 20 turns I should easily be back up in the middle of the pack at the very least.
My costs for this turn have sky-rocketed, because I have moved the settler, warrior and 2 workers out of my borders, but as next turn I'll be settling the they shouldn't change much.
And in AM, I can either slave it next turn and overflow 15 hammers, or wait a turn and overflow 28 hammers. I could fit in a chop to get the granary asap, so I could get it before the food box was half full at size 3, which would mean growth to size 5 would be real quick, only problem then is happiness. I can't get the furs or silver hooked in that amount of time, so I would be relying on religion spread of one type or another.

Chat with England, might end up forming a little triumvirate with them and Carthage...we could easily get Philo/CoL/Theo between the two of us...
Quote:(7:59:10 PM) England: You there? We've been thinking about the next round of techs, and believe that we can lightbulb Philo no later than T90, and want to see if we can get the ball rolling on overall CAN plans
(7:59:16 PM) Krill: Hi mate
(7:59:39 PM) Krill: Would you not prefer to make an academy?
(7:59:47 PM) England: depends.
(7:59:57 PM) England: If we're going to be funding people, we don't need one
(7:59:59 PM) Krill: I'm asking mainly because it is hard to get decent value for you if you lightbulb
(8:00:26 PM) England: that other teams won't want to give us full value?
(8:00:32 PM) Krill: Or rather can't
(8:00:49 PM) England: lightbulbs should be tradeable
(8:00:51 PM) Krill: For instance, Philo is a tech everyone could easily lightbulb
(8:01:05 PM) England: I've never played NTB
(8:01:10 PM) Krill: and most people will not be traders
(8:01:18 PM) Krill: or researchers, rather
(8:01:27 PM) Krill: so wil say the same thing as you
(8:02:09 PM) Krill: "We could lightbulb Philo no later than X...what would you want to trade"
(8:02:52 PM) England: true
(8:03:38 PM) Krill: My advice would be to consider trying to trade that GS to Carthage for something
(8:06:01 PM) England: it's an idea
(8:07:00 PM) Krill: Tech trading in this game isn;t going to be simple...
(8:07:04 PM) England: no, not at all
(8:07:21 PM) England: the diplomacy's why this game is interesting at all
(8:07:36 PM) England: I shudder at the thought of what this map would be playing like in a NTT game
(8:08:09 PM) Krill: It would be boring as hell
(8:08:26 PM) Krill: This map would have to be on Noble...
(8:08:26 PM) England: the limited strategic resources would kill it
(8:08:30 PM) Krill: yup
(8:08:54 PM) England: even if each capital had horses, copper and iron
(8:09:15 PM) England: it would be 1 dogpile after another, where someone gets 4v1d and can't do anything about it
(8:09:23 PM) Krill: Exactly
(8:09:33 PM) Krill: Which is why it would have to be anonymous
(8:09:58 PM) England: fair enough, if only for yours, rego's, and Exploit's sake
(8:10:04 PM) England: Exploit more because no one likes him
(8:10:08 PM) England: than anything else
(8:10:40 PM) Krill: Yup
(8:11:13 PM) England: FYI: we do have contact with Exploit now
(8:11:18 PM) England: for Alphabet purposes
(8:11:29 PM) Krill: OK, thanks for that heads up
(8:11:32 PM) England: not even sure where we met him
(8:12:00 PM) England: and I see you don't have contact with any CANT members besides possibly Rome.
(8:12:27 PM) Krill: Yeah, I don;t have contact with a single one :D
(8:12:33 PM) England: impressive
(8:12:45 PM) Krill: Just the way it worked out
(8:12:58 PM) Krill: scouting was nuts where we are
(8:13:04 PM) England: You'll probably meet Babylon soon enough
(8:13:30 PM) England: France has 3 contacts that I know of, and I don't think they have any of Portugal, India, or Aztec.
(8:13:37 PM) England: and definitely not Rome.
(8:13:41 PM) Krill: Yup, hoping that it happens next few turns tbh, got a warrior 12 tiles from my capital
(8:13:46 PM) Krill: and scouting around for them now
(8:13:50 PM) Krill: next turn onto a hill
(8:14:08 PM) England: I am not impressed with their play
(8:14:10 PM) Krill: and due to the distances between civs, should see them unless they are really far from mwe
(8:14:18 PM) England: they did settle T2
(8:14:27 PM) England: but were confusing about where they'd moved
(8:14:33 PM) Krill: Never know
(8:14:41 PM) Krill: might have moved away from their food
(8:15:06 PM) England: they just got their 3rd city, with copper, but there's no river connection
(8:15:22 PM) Krill: hmm, interesting that.
(8:15:25 PM) England: we've warned them
(8:15:28 PM) England: about the south
(8:15:35 PM) Krill: no river connection between their cap and third city?
(8:15:48 PM) England: forced by the copper location
(8:16:11 PM) Krill: probably
(8:16:16 PM) Krill: I know mine isn't on a river
(8:16:21 PM) Krill: nor is it next to food
(8:16:40 PM) England: they've got a sheep 2S of their city
(8:16:45 PM) England: so they have some food eventually
(8:17:31 PM) Krill: ah, that works. They are CRE after all
(8:17:34 PM) Krill: Peracles
(8:17:35 PM) England: no, they aren't
(8:17:37 PM) England: France
(8:17:40 PM) England: Elizabeth
(8:17:42 PM) England: Babylon's Pericles
(8:17:58 PM) Krill: oh, talking about France are we?
(8:18:00 PM) England: yeah
(8:18:02 PM) Krill: ok
(8:18:11 PM) England: oh, Babylon doesn't have copper yet, but they have horses
(8:18:15 PM) England: and close neighbors
(8:18:30 PM) Krill: ok...I'd like it if France were dead.
(8:18:33 PM) Krill: Nuff said on that
(8:18:53 PM) England: wouldn't bother us any
(8:18:57 PM) Krill: More room
(8:19:00 PM) England: aye
(8:19:03 PM) Krill: we could end up bordering each other
(8:19:16 PM) Krill: Which would help a you/me/Carthage split.
(8:19:23 PM) England: it would
(8:19:31 PM) Krill: still got other flanks to worry about, but that is what diplo is for
(8:19:36 PM) England: right
(8:19:54 PM) England: I think we can handle Babylon/Mali
(8:20:23 PM) England: long term
(8:20:44 PM) England: we do have a NAP with both of them
(8:20:45 PM) Krill: Yeah, Long term I'm not that worried about the. Sumeria/Rome/Inca aren't going to fair well
(8:20:55 PM) Krill: then they have to gaurd their southern borders
(8:21:09 PM) Krill: short term I don;t think anyone kows where I am, which helps.
(8:21:37 PM) England: process of elimination should work that out fairly quickly
(8:21:41 PM) England: though
(8:21:47 PM) Krill: Yeah
(8:22:02 PM) Krill: but not like they are going to road to me and hit me with a stack of 10 chariots
(8:22:12 PM) Krill: Even though I could probably handle 5 as is
(8:22:24 PM) England: Maya have to worry about their south
(8:22:28 PM) England: and Babylon's too far to hit you
(8:22:34 PM) England: Byz alone can't get 10 chariots
(8:22:41 PM) England: until after you've gotten iron
(8:22:45 PM) England: and HAs
(8:23:07 PM) Krill: Yup, and I can trade for copper as is, and have enough gold to upgrade at least 1 spear, and a billion forests to chop :D
(8:23:22 PM) England: aye, math is going to be great for that
(8:25:39 PM) England: there's a decent chance that CANT gets wiped out, or close to it
(8:25:47 PM) England: how would you see the 9 of us splitting if that happened?
(8:25:49 PM) England: Well, 8.
(8:25:53 PM) England: France will be in trouble.
(8:26:08 PM) Krill: I think it will break before the CANT gets wiped out
(8:26:23 PM) Krill: 2-3 civs will figure out a way to split it in their best interests
(8:26:40 PM) England: getting Mali and Babylon onto our side would not be difficult.
(8:26:43 PM) Krill: they'll try to reform an alliance structure with them at the head using hte best from both.
(8:27:28 PM) Krill: Well, assuming you me and Carthage agreed to work together, which kinda fits all of our interests, then we realkly have a choice of who we want to work with
(8:27:32 PM) Krill: Ottomans/HRE
(8:27:37 PM) Krill: or Mali/Bablyon
(8:27:44 PM) England: not a bad situation to be in
(8:27:44 PM) Krill: ie those above or below
(8:27:47 PM) Krill: yeah
(8:28:01 PM) Krill: if we can get either of those, then we are safe
(8:28:01 PM) England: Byz, hard to say. They've got great land
(8:28:16 PM) Krill: Well, Byz depends
(8:28:28 PM) Krill: I wouldn't mind, but they seem to be firmly in Exploits camp
(8:28:44 PM) England: well, Exploit might not be here long-term
(8:28:45 PM) Krill: to the extent that I'd question their motivations if Exploit were still in game
(8:28:49 PM) Krill: yeah
(8:28:58 PM) Krill: if he is dead then no real worries
(8:29:24 PM) England: I haven't checked, does he have 2 or 3 cities?
(8:29:52 PM) Krill: Exploit, 2 I think?
(8:30:03 PM) England: I'll log in later and see
(8:30:15 PM) England: one advantage of contact with most of CANT
(8:31:21 PM) England: Exploit has contact with everyone but Mali in CANT
(8:31:46 PM) Krill: That is intriguing...
(8:32:05 PM) Krill: Really does point to a strong counter alliance culture
(8:32:52 PM) England: except for who Rome may or may not have contact with, these are the missing contacts:
(8:32:55 PM) England: Exploit + Mali
(8:33:02 PM) England: Maya + Inca
(8:33:13 PM) England: Mali + Inca
(8:33:39 PM) England: I think we stumbled across their meeting spot
(8:33:54 PM) England: since we picked up Inca and Exploit in successive turns
(8:34:41 PM) Krill: Was that in the desert somewhere?
(8:35:16 PM) England: there might be some desert around
(8:35:24 PM) England: it's between Babylon and Byz land
(8:35:36 PM) Krill: ok, thanks for that pointer
(8:35:42 PM) Krill: btw
(8:35:50 PM) Krill: where is your warrior right now, that you met me with?
(8:36:00 PM) England: Ottoman land
(8:36:02 PM) Krill: I need to get you contact with India within 5 turns
(8:36:03 PM) Krill: ok
(8:36:06 PM) England: 1s of their copper
(8:36:09 PM) England: which is roaded
(8:36:16 PM) Krill: crap
(8:36:18 PM) Krill: ok
(8:36:23 PM) Krill: I need to shout at India
(8:36:33 PM) Krill: Get them moving their warrior
(8:36:43 PM) Krill: I told them to move it in a specific direction and they didn;t listen
(8:36:55 PM) Krill: perhaps telling them it delays Monarchy will get their attention
(8:37:10 PM) England: ...
(8:37:26 PM) Krill: they have a warrior next to me, need them to send that NE, and you to move your warrior SW
(8:37:30 PM) Krill: which kinda sucks
(8:37:33 PM) Krill: for you
(8:37:40 PM) England: we also need Aztec contact
(8:37:52 PM) England: Portugal should happen if HRE is directing them properly
(8:38:07 PM) Krill: Portugal meeting you, at you territory??
(8:38:12 PM) England: yeah
(8:38:17 PM) Krill: ok, that simplifies it
(8:38:44 PM) Krill: I'll have to ask Ruff if he can use his chariot to meet you quickly before gifting it back to Portugal.
(8:39:01 PM) England: wheels within wheels
(8:39:10 PM) Krill: yup
(8:39:11 PM) Krill: brb
(8:44:24 PM) Krill: back
(8:44:31 PM) Krill: takeaway!
(8:44:44 PM) England: lol
(8:44:56 PM) England: hm. So, any clue when that might be?
(8:46:02 PM) Krill: meeting India?
(8:46:17 PM) England: either India or Aztec
(8:46:30 PM) Krill: 4 turns max, if India do what I say
(8:46:48 PM) England: perfect timing, then
(8:47:42 PM) Krill: Aztecs, no idea
(8:47:52 PM) Krill: better use Ottomans as the coordination for meeting them
(8:48:05 PM) Krill: because Ottomans probably want their chariot back?
(8:48:07 PM) England: right, but we're moving our warrior away from their lands
(8:48:17 PM) England: did everyone send the Aztec a chariot?
(8:48:30 PM) England: to meet India
(8:48:40 PM) Krill: nah
(8:48:50 PM) Krill: think they got the chariots to kill the incan axes
(8:48:59 PM) England: right
(8:49:28 PM) England: Carthage says that the Inca misplayed it
(8:49:33 PM) England: and could've actually done damage
(8:49:42 PM) Krill: You pick Joao of Inca, and axe rush?
(8:49:57 PM) Krill: They misplayed it, but much more basic than that
(8:50:12 PM) Krill: I don't think Inca ever had a chance to do anything to Aztecs
(8:50:19 PM) Krill: I know they could never raze the capital
(8:50:36 PM) England: still, Ruff's hurting in pop
(8:50:41 PM) England: still just 2 size 2s
(8:50:54 PM) Krill: Yup
(8:51:01 PM) Krill: I'd consider him someones vassal
(8:51:17 PM) Krill: He'll probably sell his soul to Ottomans now for a few chariots
(8:51:49 PM) Krill: sorry
(8:51:53 PM) Krill: for a few settlers
(8:52:05 PM) England: shame he won't be able to get imperialistic settlers
(8:52:16 PM) Krill: yeah...
(8:52:21 PM) Krill: he asked for a settler and a worker
(8:52:33 PM) England: as the peace deal?
(8:52:43 PM) Krill: yup
(8:53:04 PM) England: wow
(8:53:22 PM) England: did they agree, or cut the cost?
(8:53:37 PM) Krill: nah
(8:53:45 PM) Krill: I nknow they shot that down
(8:58:05 PM) England: hopefully we can get nearly full contact across CAN soon
(8:58:10 PM) England: France is going to lag behind
(8:58:35 PM) England: no matter what we do
(8:58:45 PM) Krill: Yup
(8:58:53 PM) Krill: want you to have access with Aztecs asap, for Archery
(8:59:02 PM) England: definitely
(8:59:06 PM) England: we'll need some HAs
(8:59:07 PM) Krill: otherwise might need to get Carthage to tech it immediately after Maths, and I don;t want to have to ask them
(8:59:33 PM) England: no, rather have them start saving gold for CS or Machinery
(9:00:18 PM) Krill: dead on
(9:01:38 PM) England: Philo will get lightbulbed by somebody, CS, Machinery and Feud are all next. Aesthetics/Lit/Drama get us about 5 total things to trade
(9:02:22 PM) England: Philo + funding CS...we might be able to make that work in trade
(9:02:37 PM) Krill: I can quite easily get Theo as well...
(9:02:42 PM) Krill: and also help with said funding
(9:02:44 PM) England: right
(9:02:59 PM) England: Gandhi of Egypt, with 3 religions...
(9:03:15 PM) England: have fun building all those missionaries
(9:03:23 PM) Krill: meh
(9:03:28 PM) Krill: shrines can do that shit for me
(9:03:35 PM) England: well, at least 1/city
(9:03:36 PM) Krill: I could arguably get CoL quickly enough on top of that
(9:03:42 PM) England: who's getting COL?
(9:03:46 PM) Krill: Right now, no one
(9:03:57 PM) Krill: I could probably bulb it faster than someone coudl research it
(9:04:08 PM) England: that does slow Philo down a bit
(9:04:35 PM) England: Ottomans are IW, HRE is HBR, we're Monarchy, Carthage is Math, you're Alpha. Currency is France?
(9:05:04 PM) Krill: HRE kinda demanded they research CoL next
(9:05:13 PM) Krill: I think they want something to deal with your CRE trait
(9:05:25 PM) Krill: Although I did tell them Religion doesn;t actually work on that
(9:05:45 PM) England: they haven't been all that cooperative with us
(9:06:12 PM) England: "oh, we settled about 10t north of your horses". According to Carthage, it's 6.
(9:06:29 PM) Krill: Ouch. Really?
(9:06:34 PM) Krill: That bare faced?
(9:06:41 PM) England: seems that way
(9:07:08 PM) England: DIM: we'll found a city in two turns on the river that leads to your lands
6:35 PM me: where?
Midas' river runs close
DIM: abour 10 tiles north from your horse city
(9:07:11 PM) England: oh, 10t from the city
(9:07:16 PM) England: so, actually 8 tiles north
(9:07:17 PM) England: of the horses
(9:07:24 PM) England: city
(9:07:33 PM) England: still, 8 isn't "about" 10
(9:07:49 PM) England: let me rephrase, since that was confusing
(9:07:57 PM) England: our horses are 2N of Animal Farm
(9:08:06 PM) England: and their city is 6N of the horses
(9:08:26 PM) England: but they said "about 10 tiles" north of the horse city, when they knew perfectly well that it was really 8 tiles.
(9:08:41 PM) England: which is a big difference; another city becomes pinched
(9:08:56 PM) England: between those two
(9:09:02 PM) Krill: Dead on
(9:09:06 PM) Krill: Well...
(9:09:16 PM) Krill: CRE, you can make sure it is their city that gets pinched
(9:09:18 PM) Krill: OK
(9:09:23 PM) England: right
(9:09:35 PM) England: we'll just have to get our 5th city there sooner than we wanted
(9:10:10 PM) England: and HRE will have to deal
(9:10:23 PM) Krill: Straight on
(9:10:25 PM) Krill: ok
(9:10:34 PM) England: I should run, take care of some stuff
(9:10:53 PM) Krill: well, just as a quick agreement,
(9:11:02 PM) Krill: would you mind not telling anyone about that CoL point?
(9:11:07 PM) England: that's fine
(9:11:07 PM) Krill: Or Theo, come to that.
(9:11:13 PM) England: right
(9:11:15 PM) Krill: Thanks mate
(9:11:19 PM) Krill: ditto on your Philo
(9:11:37 PM) England: aye, when do you think you'd be able to lightbulb COL if it came to that
(9:12:11 PM) Krill: 2 secs, I'll recalculate. I changed tacks a while ago, which has put back such a date...
(9:12:18 PM) England: ok
(9:13:08 PM) Krill: Ack
(9:13:26 PM) Krill: OK, to put this into perspective, I'm slaving a settler in my cap in a few turns, back to size 2
(9:13:30 PM) Krill: then need a granary
(9:13:36 PM) Krill: and growing it as large as I can
(9:13:42 PM) Krill: I would need an Oblisk there
(9:13:54 PM) Krill: and then add 2 preists to make 16 gpp
(9:14:02 PM) Krill: it is already making 4 a turn
(9:14:07 PM) England: yay Oracle
(9:14:14 PM) Krill: so wouldn;t be unfair to say 10 turns after I get the obelisk
(9:14:24 PM) Krill: so t80
(9:14:26 PM) Krill: ish
(9:14:31 PM) England: ok
(9:14:34 PM) Krill: PHI is just so cool sometimes
(9:14:44 PM) England: yeah
(9:15:03 PM) England: better for smaller civs, but still has its uses
(9:15:27 PM) England: correction, exp and cre are better for large civs
(9:15:31 PM) Krill: Well, this game should see its' use put to some rather...unorthodox ends
(9:15:40 PM) England: just a little.
(9:15:51 PM) England: Gandhi + Obelisks is a unique synergy
(9:15:58 PM) England: Agri/Wheel + War Chariots don't hurt
(9:16:10 PM) Krill: Yeah
(9:16:24 PM) Krill: I was going to take Peter, but meh, thougth I'd give EXP a rest
(9:16:30 PM) Krill: I've broken it enough already
(9:16:42 PM) England: lol
(9:16:49 PM) England: Gandhi was a bit out of left field, I must admit
(9:17:01 PM) England: Carthage is as bewildered as we were that Sury was around at 8th
(9:17:19 PM) Krill: Sury and Pacal, 2 of the best civs there are
(9:17:23 PM) Krill: leaders, rather
(9:17:52 PM) England: Sury was our 3rd choice, Willem and Pacal are obvious 1A and 1B
(9:18:10 PM) Krill: Yeah, and look what hapened to them
(9:18:40 PM) England: so, at the moment, what are India and Aztec researching? Are the Aztec exempt with their war slowing them down so much?
(9:18:50 PM) England: and Portugal, for that matter
(9:18:53 PM) Krill: Both are saving gold.
(9:19:01 PM) Krill: No point researching something at 20%
(9:19:05 PM) England: true
(9:19:15 PM) Krill: Might have Currency soonish, which makes p[aying in gold a decent option
(9:19:46 PM) England: if you want this to last, all 9 teams need better communication about who's doing what
(9:20:16 PM) Krill: Once everyone has met, I'm really tempted to post a thread in the RBPB3 forum, for the Alliance to work...
(9:20:47 PM) Krill: And just tell the CANT members to not look at it
(9:20:56 PM) England: which is fine as long as CAN holds
(9:21:04 PM) Krill: Yeah
(9:21:15 PM) Krill: but gmail chats don;t exactly get deleted once the Alliance is broken
(9:21:27 PM) England: right
(9:21:49 PM) Krill: So still expect some stuff to go on behind the curtains, but major stuff like who researches what can go there for easy access
(9:22:03 PM) England: who researches what is the big one
(9:22:04 PM) Krill: military coordination between 2 civs, well, do that in gmail
(9:22:19 PM) England: agreed
(9:22:21 PM) England: or teamspeak
(9:22:32 PM) Krill: Er
(9:22:33 PM) England: what's the IP for that? [Note to self: DON'T POST IN PB3 thread]
(9:22:39 PM) Krill: I have a teamspeak server set up
(9:22:42 PM) Krill: ok
(9:23:30 PM) Krill: 195.137.73.51:8767
(9:23:50 PM) Krill: I'm hoping to build a home server in the next month
(9:24:27 PM) England: haven't used teamspeak since my DotA days, but it'll be great for military coordination
(9:24:29 PM) Krill: so I can leave that running 24/7, instead of this temporary server on my PC (quad core isn;t the most efficient processor on the market, nevermind the graphics card)
(9:25:08 PM) England: I hope Civ5 doesn't kill this game
(9:25:19 PM) England: of course, who knows if it'll even come out in time
(9:25:28 PM) Krill: well, 7 months to go
(9:25:34 PM) Krill: turn a day...
(9:25:43 PM) Krill: It'll be in the end game by that point
(9:25:49 PM) Krill: so perhaps another 2 months on top of that
(9:25:55 PM) Krill: so I don;t think the game will die
(9:26:00 PM) England: assuming no pauses for drops
(9:26:07 PM) England: and such
(9:26:26 PM) Krill: yup
(9:26:33 PM) Krill: We have a few subs lined up already though
(9:26:45 PM) England: good
