RB PBEM 2 - de Krill of Fronce

Chat with Dreylin. Need to think about what it signifies.

If I wanted to go all out on this, I could get Oracle t37, at the cost of slaving 2 pop into it, and another pop via a workboat for overflow. But I would have to find a way to get Pottery eot t37 as well, which might be doable with overflow...

Quote:(2:31:38 PM) Krill: Yo Dreylin, wassup
(2:31:58 PM) Andy Jones: not much
(2:32:14 PM) Krill: Got time for a quick chat?
(2:32:21 PM) Krill: PBEM 2
(2:32:30 PM) Andy Jones: sure
(2:32:34 PM) Krill: Cool
(2:32:42 PM) Krill: I was wondering how you were finding the lack of stats
(2:32:51 PM) Krill: Cos I feel like I'm lying blind...
(2:32:59 PM) Krill: quite disturbing tbh :D
(2:33:11 PM) Andy Jones: *flying, right? wink
(2:33:18 PM) Krill: yeah yeah
(2:33:28 PM) Krill: Flying
(2:33:35 PM) Krill: I'm waiting for a new keyboard in the post
(2:33:39 PM) Andy Jones: Well I'm not a stat-delver like you
(2:33:45 PM) Krill: this oen is about 8 years old
(2:34:06 PM) Krill: Heh, I don;t dive stats, I'm not like Sullla or mh
(2:34:38 PM) Andy Jones: Well I don't miss the added info too much
(2:35:24 PM) Andy Jones: though an indication of how I'm placing relative to the rest of you might be nice
(2:35:48 PM) Krill: Well, do you have a second city yet?
(2:35:59 PM) Krill: For instance Ruff and Yaz have intimated that they haven't
(2:36:17 PM) Andy Jones: you keep asking me that!
(2:36:32 PM) Krill: heh, I'm waiting :D
(2:36:40 PM) Andy Jones: those two are busy fighting
(2:37:13 PM) Krill: Well, Ruff said that they are researching for some bigger rocks to throw at each other
(2:37:25 PM) Krill: But what do you expect
(2:37:33 PM) Andy Jones: yeah, understandable
(2:37:45 PM) Andy Jones: brb
(2:37:47 PM) Krill: np
(2:43:19 PM) Andy Jones: OK, back
(2:43:39 PM) Andy Jones: So does your public posting imply you just completed Stonehenge?
(2:43:44 PM) Krill: Yup
(2:43:51 PM) Krill: Also just got Hinduism
(2:44:05 PM) Krill: So that is an easy shrine
(2:44:20 PM) Andy Jones: Aha, so you were feeling me out about Poly last week...
(2:44:52 PM) Krill: Yeah, not that it really mattered at this part of the game. Once you decide to do something, you can't really speed it up
(2:45:04 PM) Andy Jones: sure
(2:45:23 PM) Krill: So, I heard that you met Squareleg smile
(2:45:38 PM) Krill: Hopefully you aren't going to be starting another war anytime soon?
(2:45:58 PM) Andy Jones: against his Dog Soldiers & totem poles!?
(2:46:10 PM) Krill: Yeah, not really appeasing, is it?
(2:46:21 PM) Andy Jones: not so much, no
(2:46:42 PM) Krill: Just wonderin,g but where are you on the map?
(2:46:54 PM) Andy Jones: What about you, you going to be taking on Darrell anytime soon?
(2:47:10 PM) Krill: Once I find some strat resource frown
(2:47:14 PM) Andy Jones: Ah
(2:47:15 PM) Krill: Got nothing
(2:47:29 PM) Andy Jones: you pushed to IW yet?
(2:47:35 PM) Krill: Just about to start
(2:47:36 PM) Andy Jones: I'm in the North
(2:47:45 PM) Andy Jones: lots of nice Tundra & Ice
(2:47:50 PM) Krill: Lucky you...
(2:48:02 PM) Andy Jones: I'd rather be in the Jungle
(2:48:16 PM) Krill: Yeah, at least jungle can be made profitable.
(2:48:24 PM) Krill: Although all of my land is like 1 tile thick
(2:48:36 PM) Andy Jones: Sounds familiar
(2:48:51 PM) Krill: Yeah, it'll make for some interesting wars later on :D
(2:49:12 PM) Andy Jones: Need to practice my Naval engagements...
(2:50:39 PM) Krill: Don;t we all
(2:50:47 PM) Krill: I noticed that you didn;t do much naval work in RBPB1
(2:50:58 PM) Krill: even though that game was set up perfectly for naval invasions
(2:51:13 PM) Andy Jones: PBEM or PTBS?
(2:51:24 PM) Andy Jones: PBEM
(2:51:25 PM) Krill: Pitboss
(2:53:09 PM) Krill: Going for Oracle?
(2:53:45 PM) Andy Jones: well that would be a logical assumption for my start
(2:54:10 PM) Krill: No second city, yeah, would make me think that
(2:54:38 PM) Andy Jones: I never said whether I had a second city yet
(2:54:41 PM) Andy Jones: wink
(2:55:14 PM) Krill: Well, tundra and ice, and a second city don;t really go together wink
(2:55:38 PM) Krill: but you still have to plant a second city at some point
(2:56:03 PM) Andy Jones: assuming I haven't already, yeah that is true
(2:56:21 PM) Andy Jones: especially since SL isn't an inviting rush target
(2:56:34 PM) Krill: Still have to plant a third city?
(2:56:59 PM) Krill: That doesn;t sound right.
(2:57:12 PM) Andy Jones: Well I hope not to be eliminated before I get to three
(2:58:09 PM) Krill: That's the spirit...same way I felt in PB3
(2:58:55 PM) Andy Jones: From what I can gather (I'm lurking Ruff exclusively) you've forged a decent-sized tech circle
(2:59:06 PM) Andy Jones: so not been dogpiled yet! wink
(2:59:50 PM) Krill: Yup
(2:59:56 PM) Krill: Makes a change
(3:00:24 PM) Andy Jones: Well you do have a reputation...
(3:01:04 PM) Krill: I knew we should have played this game in an anonymous fashion...
(3:01:07 PM) Krill: wink
(3:01:23 PM) Andy Jones: & how would you do that?
(3:01:37 PM) Krill: Use the anon game option in game
(3:01:52 PM) Krill: make new accounts for hte forum, just for that game
(3:01:52 PM) Andy Jones: Oh, didn't know that existed
(3:02:03 PM) Krill: Yup, it gets used a bit
(3:02:11 PM) Krill: so, when you finishing oracle tongue
(3:02:29 PM) Andy Jones: heh
(3:03:19 PM) Krill: Cat got your tongue wink
(3:03:55 PM) Andy Jones: Warrior, maybe ... can't build Cats yet. wink
(3:07:21 PM) Krill: Oh well
(3:07:34 PM) Krill: Not like I can force you to say what you are doing
(3:08:09 PM) Andy Jones: Well I figured I'd at least attempt to play this game a bit closer to my chest than the last one
(3:08:19 PM) Andy Jones: wink
(3:08:37 PM) Krill: Considering how that worked out for you, I don;t quite see the point...?
(3:08:44 PM) Andy Jones: You are making me work hard at it though!
(3:09:42 PM) Andy Jones: Well, this is a very different map setup
(3:10:00 PM) Krill: Not necesarilly
(3:10:21 PM) Krill: Not like we have all explored the map
(3:10:40 PM) Andy Jones: Well true, but PBEM1 had natural choke points
(3:11:05 PM) Andy Jones: where I doubt there'll be much choking on this map
(3:11:22 PM) Krill: Never know, triremes are brutes
(3:11:46 PM) Krill: And we can always watch how the jpan-Persia war plays out
(3:11:48 PM) Andy Jones: I do hope to last past their age
(3:12:15 PM) Andy Jones: that's likely to be fully land-based at this stage
(3:12:47 PM) Krill: Yup
(3:12:55 PM) Krill: but never know, could have sailing and a slaved galley
(3:13:04 PM) Krill: which would give either saide a massive headache
(3:13:15 PM) Andy Jones: yeah, true enough
(3:15:53 PM) Krill: So, Oracle in next 3 turns then tongue
(3:16:18 PM) Andy Jones: yeah something like that, why not!
(3:16:22 PM) Andy Jones: wink

Small decision, but it comes down to how highly I value the exploration.

I was assuming overflow into granary but you would have to wait until t37 to slave the workboat.

Yeah, it would help if I would pay attention to my techs, wouldn't it? I'll probably get the warrior and then build a the workboat manually, getting it via overflow from the granary. Either way, don;t have to make the decision for a while...

Chat with Squareleg. Went quite well...I'd have accepted a demand for MC as a straight up gift under some circumstances.

Quote:(6:23:12 PM) de krill of Fronce: yeah yeah, you got the email right
(6:23:20 PM) de krill of Fronce: it was for PBEm 2 and not the pitboss
(6:23:29 PM) de krill of Fronce: damned autofinish on gmail
(6:23:45 PM) Squareleg: np - haha - what can I do for you then?
(6:24:41 PM) de krill of Fronce: What information do you have Dreylin?
(6:24:48 PM) de krill of Fronce: That you know is 100% correct
(6:24:57 PM) de krill of Fronce: ie number of cities
(6:25:02 PM) de krill of Fronce: screenshots of his land etc
(6:25:14 PM) de krill of Fronce: and what would you want in exchange fior said infomation?
(6:26:01 PM) Squareleg: Rather surprisingly, I don't have any knowledge of his land...
(6:26:42 PM) Squareleg: My initial warrior got eaten by a lion on his way to investigate and I haven't sent another one
(6:27:22 PM) Squareleg: I plan to build a dog soldier next that will free up another warrior to explore.
(6:27:40 PM) de krill of Fronce: or you could always explore with the dogsoldier
(6:27:51 PM) Squareleg: I know where he plans on planting his 2nd city and he hasn't done that yet...
(6:28:19 PM) Squareleg: Other warrior will not have so far to go - I don't plan on pissing him off yet...
(6:28:52 PM) Squareleg: How come this info on Dreylin - are you the other side of him?
(6:28:59 PM) Squareleg: btw - congtats on SH!
(6:28:59 PM) de krill of Fronce: Nah
(6:29:04 PM) de krill of Fronce: oh, thanks smile
(6:29:14 PM) de krill of Fronce: Just wondering if he is going for Oracle
(6:29:47 PM) Squareleg: Dunno although his starting techs lend to it...
(6:29:52 PM) Squareleg: dind you found hindu?
(6:30:18 PM) de krill of Fronce: Yup
(6:30:46 PM) de krill of Fronce: So my shrine is due in another 34 turns
(6:30:47 PM) Squareleg: good turn for the french then!
(6:31:33 PM) Squareleg: There is a chance that I will become Buddhist in this game - would that cause friction with you?
(6:31:46 PM) de krill of Fronce: Not really
(6:32:02 PM) de krill of Fronce: I'll gift you a missionary though, so you can keep that offer on the table
(6:32:28 PM) Squareleg: cool - I'll bear that in mind.
(6:33:09 PM) Squareleg: What are your thoughts on Darrell?
(6:33:54 PM) Squareleg: He seemed the keenest in the outset to start communications with everyone.
(6:35:35 PM) de krill of Fronce: See, I'm not so sure
(6:35:40 PM) de krill of Fronce: he didn't want to talk about techs
(6:35:50 PM) de krill of Fronce: and he really doesn't seem to want to talk to me at all
(6:36:10 PM) Squareleg: really?
(6:36:40 PM) de krill of Fronce: Yeah, I've been trying really hard to get him to talk
(6:37:02 PM) de krill of Fronce: But any more and he is liable to just declare war, you know?
(6:37:22 PM) Squareleg: I see what you mean.
(6:37:34 PM) Squareleg: You don't want ot be too pushy
(6:39:15 PM) Squareleg: I should get visibility on Dreylins cities in about 10 turns - perhaps we can talk again around then?
(6:39:44 PM) de krill of Fronce: In 10 turns it'll all be over
(6:40:09 PM) de krill of Fronce: Basically, I want to know if Dreylin is building, or planning o build, Oracle
(6:40:17 PM) Squareleg: I don't know if I have mentioned in the past but there is still quite a lot of info in the demogs screen... top5 cities etc... last time I checked his cap was size 3
(6:40:29 PM) de krill of Fronce: Yup
(6:40:43 PM) Squareleg: hope that helps but it is all I can do
(6:41:19 PM) Squareleg: I can potentially send you a shot of his charts each turn... would that be of interest??
(6:41:40 PM) Squareleg: What would be in it for me?
(6:42:02 PM) Squareleg: A preferential trade for the tech you oracle?
(6:42:10 PM) de krill of Fronce: Pretty much
(6:42:33 PM) Squareleg: what do you plan to take?
(6:43:11 PM) Squareleg: MC by any chance?
(6:43:18 PM) de krill of Fronce: Please forgive me for a little paranoia, but I'm not willing to disclose that info right now.
(6:43:38 PM) Squareleg: no worries
(6:43:38 PM) de krill of Fronce: Oracling MC is a common gambit, true.
(6:43:51 PM) Squareleg: On this map its a good gambit..
(6:47:20 PM) de krill of Fronce: Yup
(6:47:31 PM) de krill of Fronce: IIUC, Dreylin is in the far north
(6:47:48 PM) Squareleg: I wouldn't mind being a part of that so let me put an offer on the table... I send you Dreylins charts each turn (let me know which ones you want) and you build the oracle quicker than he does! I then you trade me the tech you take... (no trade clause of course)
(6:47:51 PM) Squareleg: Yes
(6:49:40 PM) de krill of Fronce: OK
(6:51:07 PM) de krill of Fronce: Let's say I trade you the tech I take up front, for, I dunno, a beaker credit worth 25% of my techs value (rounded down to the nearest 10 beakers or whatever you want) at some point in the future
(6:51:10 PM) de krill of Fronce: That seem OK?
(6:52:29 PM) Squareleg: 50% and you let me know the tech and we have a deal.
(6:52:57 PM) de krill of Fronce: With an agreement that you will not tell any other party?
(6:53:06 PM) Squareleg: ditto
(6:53:11 PM) de krill of Fronce: ok
(6:53:18 PM) de krill of Fronce: We have a deal
(6:53:21 PM) de krill of Fronce: It is MC
(6:54:06 PM) Squareleg: "Shakes hands"
(6:54:17 PM) Squareleg: Which graphs would you like?
(6:54:25 PM) de krill of Fronce: MFG, Crop yield
(6:54:27 PM) de krill of Fronce: GNP
(6:54:32 PM) de krill of Fronce: And score
(6:54:44 PM) Squareleg: score doesn't work...
(6:54:47 PM) de krill of Fronce: ok
(6:54:52 PM) Squareleg: the others are fine.
(6:54:52 PM) de krill of Fronce: forget score
(6:55:43 PM) Squareleg: I'll load up the save again and get last turns ready...
(6:56:14 PM) de krill of Fronce: thanks mate
(7:02:09 PM) Squareleg: I have met my neighbour the otherside of me also - it is one of the guys from the other island - not yours, seems we are the other side of the map from one another.
(7:02:58 PM) Squareleg: I see this as good news as there shouldn't be any potential conflict for a loong time - I hope we can work well together in the future.
(7:03:50 PM) de krill of Fronce: Yeah, that seems to be pretty good.
(7:04:15 PM) de krill of Fronce: With Dreylin in a rather painful expansion position, you have quite alot of leeway it seems
(7:04:57 PM) de krill of Fronce: thanks for the graphs
(7:05:01 PM) Squareleg: hopefully. Depends on islands I guess - when sailing comes in the expansion might be a lot different...
(7:05:54 PM) Squareleg: I've got to dash of to the shops. Catch you later! Nice doing business with you!
(7:06:14 PM) de krill of Fronce: cya mate

Did he just negotiate up the price for MC from 25% to 50% of its cost? That's odd.

Have you deconstructed the graphs yet? smile
I have to run.
Reply

Not really odd, he needed to be sure of what it was worth to begin with to value the percentage. He basically gave me more beakers for certainty in his plans, which isn;t that bad. Unfortunately, I haven;t been able to deconstruct Dreylins graphs, but he slaved his capital for 1 pop back to size 3, which suggests overflow for something, and oracle fits the bill quite well. However, that is a maximum of 19 extra hammers from the slave, not too shabby but could be better.

I came up with a new plan to triple slave the Oracle though smile the Capital (rechristened Lands Start) grows to size 6 eot t37, with a grand total of 0 food spare and 59 hammers, (or 4 and 55 respectively). I can then slave away 3 pop for a base 30 hammers, or 45 due to IND, so I can finish Oracle eot t38, with a size 3 capital. And to top it off, I managed to give the mine to Viewpoint, my second city, so I no longer have to slave that and can get it to size 4 2 turns faster. It was probably more efficient to not slave LS, but OTOH, I lose a grand total of 15 hammers, but I can save 1 forest chop (a plains forest), and I really need the hammers in LS atm. I'm thinking a granary in there (grow to size 4, double slave it out, stacking the unhapppiness), then grow to the happy cap, and just hammer out the shit that I need. The current health cap is 5, but with a granary and the corn hoooked it is 7, 8 with the pigs, basically it is inline with happiness. I can make a grand total of 16 food+hammers at size 6 with the pigs hooked in LS, leaving Viewpoint to grow and slave hard, from sizes 2 to 4, stacking unhappiness as I go.

Looking to get, but t50, about 3 workers and 2 settlers out hopefully. I'll have to slave hard, but I think it is needed...

Got a border with Darrell sorted out. Note he either is very forgetful, or tried to sell me a huge piece of BS in this chat.

Quote:(11:12:43 PM) de krill of Fronce: can we sort out some sort of border between us at some point?
(11:13:23 PM) Darrell: sure
(11:13:24 PM) de krill of Fronce: Also, I need SLs' mobile number to pester him
(11:13:31 PM) Darrell: hah-hah...don't have it smile
(11:13:34 PM) Darrell: waht do you propose?
(11:13:36 PM) Darrell: border wise

(11:14:34 PM) Darrell: let me find the map
(11:14:40 PM) de krill of Fronce: and so have a weird dotmap to the south of my capital

(11:18:00 PM) Darrell: north of the fish
(11:18:02 PM) de krill of Fronce: yeah
(11:19:06 PM) Darrell: well south of the sugar has some overlap but it doesn't bothe rme

(11:22:56 PM) Darrell: actuall how about 1E of the corn
(11:23:03 PM) Darrell: it makes a canal
(11:23:09 PM) Darrell: can go through the continent
(11:23:21 PM) de krill of Fronce: And on a hill wink
(11:23:24 PM) Darrell: doesnt cost me any tiles and teh overlap is better
(11:23:32 PM) Darrell: yeah
