For information, the map script I'm using is:
FullofResources, Large size
Map tab: Big and Small map: Snaky continents, Islands, Islands mixed in, Cylindrical (high sea level and Rocky).
Ground tab: Grassland: Cursed (one step below standard)
Plains: Large Plains (one step higher than standard)
Desert: Dispersed (one step below standard)
Tundra: Steppes (standard)
Snow: Without (lowest setting, removes snow from the map)
Ice: Remove along coasts.
Resources tab: Health resources multiplied by 1.2. Starting resources irrelevant as starts are being built by hand.
General idea here was to push the terrain base quality closer to uniform in latitude, and then add some resources to make up for the extra plains. Still left quite a bit of variety, though.
Starting locations tab: Everything standard
Game Options: Standard (which is blank)
In terms of hand modifications, I'm modifying starts, strategics, and just a smidge of added connections to reduce dead end paths.
Also, looks like I won't get starting screenshots out til tomorrow. Want to leave time for lurker critique. Also, it appears that Windows 10 has made my 'My Documents' folder read-only, so I need to sort that out before I can take screenshots.

Just in case you run the game with another folder using the following command
start Civ4BeyondSword.exe multiple /ALTROOT=C:\temp\Civ4Saves\pb42 mod="Mods\RtR Mod 2.0.7.4\

Well, I still haven't figured out how to unchain Beyond the Sword...but the Print Screen - paste to Paint - Crop and save method still works. I think it would drive me up a wall if I were reporting a game, but it'll be tolerable for a week. Does mean that screenshots aren't going to be very uniform but I should manage to capture the important stuff.
Got some feedback from Ref from the WB file, made some edits, and now I've posted the screenies for another round of feedback. Hopefully it'll be easier for other lurkers to comment. Still aiming to get the snake started tonight.

Yes, I did. It doesn't seem to stick, somehow.
The weird thing is, civ has no trouble making save files in the My Games directory, and I can move stuff around manually, but screenshots fail. So although it's labelled as 'read only', Windows must be doing something more complex under the hood.

Do you have a dual monitor setup and is CIV in the primary window?

That was it! Drag the window to my primary monitor and suddenly it works perfectly.
So I've been blaming Windows instead of Civ for a Civ bug, apparently. I guess I can still blame them for labelling things obtusely enough that it looked like the problem

I think I deserve an extra plains cow for that.
