Make no mistake, I was in Washington to attend a game with friends - I have no rooting interest for or against the Nationals. It's very difficult to be an Orioles fan, but if you grew up in Baltimore, and you're not one of those awful bandwagon sportspeople, I don't think there's much of an option. Sooner or later, we have to be good again... right?
Well, only four more months until football season starts.
This wasn't a particularly great turn for us, as Spartansburg popped out an Artist at 18% odds for its Great Person.
We had about equal odds to get a Scientist, Merchant, or Engineer - all of which would have been preferable. Now we have two Great Artists, which is sort of unnecessary.
So.... why don't we burn one of them on a Golden Age? It's pretty good timing, as we could use the GA turns to build universities and banks (assuming we go to Banking next, which we should) and we'll very likely get a full 16 turns of GA from landing Taj as well. Explode ahead with the double GA and be ready to kick some Ottoman behind when they wear off. And so long as our next Great Person isn't another Artist, we'll have another GA in our back pocket (Artist + second non-Artist) should we need it.
I have not ended our turn, so Speaker and I can decide on this today. But I think we should go ahead with the Golden Age... if only to see how Nakor and Kathlete react!
What's going on with the Taj Mahal? Not that much, fortunately:
Rolan: 249 shields (+45)
Krondor: 179 shields (+21)
I will eat my hat if Krondor doesn't complete a university next turn, but included here for completeness. Rolan received 45 shields this turn into its Taj build... which is pretty much exactly what Speaker and I predicted it would from looking at the tiles the city can work. Not too shabby, eh? Nakor is a full 10 turns away from Taj at that rate, and we are 4t from Nationalism tech, so we're looking pretty good there. Just have to hope there isn't some mystery forest chop(s) out there we've missed somehow.
In the past three turns, Nakor has discovered Aesthetics, Drama, and Literature, so I guess he's going back now for the top of the Classical tree to pick up what he skipped earlier. I'd rather have Nakor do that; it'll take a long time to get Globe Theatre setup (if he's even thinking about it), and Nakor doesn't have a unit that qualifies for Heroic Epic purposes. At least he's not racing forward down the tree yet.
Confirmed that Whosit is gifting all his gold each turn away to someone else, almost certainly Nakor. While it's only 50 gpt, Nakor doesn't need any more help. Kinda tough sometimes when these other civs play together as a team...
Please Korea, kill Whosit soon.
Dantski wanted to know if we had anything else to offer for his Great Prophet. Umm, I don't know what else we could give him. A Great Artist (?) He's not too likely to want that, especially since we'd make him agree not to bomb our border cities! Any thoughts?
